"Who disturbs my meditation, as a pebble disturbs the stillness of the pond?" I asked calmly.

"It's me, Clementine. I brought AJ along. You're not gonna believe what just happened!" Clem answered

I calmly stood up and turned around. AJ suddenly formed an orb of green fire in the palm of his left hand.

My eyes widened with surprise.

"AJ, I think you just unlocked your powers." I said.

"That's exactly what I'm thinking. I didn't think he could unlock them so fast." Clem replied.

"The buttons on my sword have faded as well, except the one that activates that green lightsaber blade." AJ added.

I smiled.

"That's because I designed them that way. I designed those buttons to fade once you unlock your powers. Now I can help you learn to control them, and you'll be as good as me and Clementine." I said.

AJ smiled proudly.

"I'm ready." He said.

"Not here. We must go to the training room. I have modules for stationary targets there. We can use living enemies to help you improve." I replied.

"You're pretty smart when it comes to teaching other people their true potential. I think you'd make it as a combat teacher." Clementine said.

"Perhaps. But I shall teach you both. You see Clem, when I helped you learn to control your elemental powers, I only taught you how to use them for hitting enemies from a distance. I never taught you how to use them in close-quarter combat. I know this because they can be used to make your unarmed attacks even more dangerous when it is necessary." I replied.

And I proved my point by using my powers to encrust my right leg with Soul Fire when I delivered a Side Kick at a non-existent enemy.

Clem and AJ watched with wide eyes as my right leg was encrusted with purple flames, and my jeans weren't even getting burned.

"Amazing. I didn't know you could do that." AJ said.

"Indeed. But let us go to the training room. We must begin your training, young AJ. I see much heroism in your future, and I have faith in you." I replied.

We went to the training room where I set up a training program with stationary targets for AJ.

"Okay, AJ. We'll start off easy. Your first task is to hit these targets with each element. I shall go first to demonstrate, and then it'll be your turn. Don't worry, the stationary targets are designed to automatically reset themselves." I said.

"Sure. That's a great idea." AJ replied.

I shot a fireball at one target before shooting a beam of fire at another. Both targets were singed. I did the same with ice and the targets were frozen. Finally, I used lightning in the same way and each target was reduced to ash. The targets reset themselves and were ready for AJ to destroy them.

"Okay AJ. Go for it." I said.

AJ followed my example and he did not miss one target.

"That's it. How did that feel to you?" I asked.

AJ seemed puzzled.

"Hmmm. Let me think." He said.

I gave him a light smack on the head. It didn't hurt AJ, but it did get his attention.

"Don't think. Feel. It's like a finger pointing a way to the moon, but don't concentrate on the finger or you'll miss all that heavenly glory. Do you understand?" I asked.

AJ bowed while keeping his eyes on me.

"Yes sensei." He answered.

"Good. Now I shall teach you how to incorporate your elemental powers in unarmed combat." I replied, turning to Clementine.

"I'm guessing we're about to spar with each other." She said.

"Yes. But don't worry, it is merely part of training, much like those modules that you've seen me use to release bent-up frustration." I replied.

I threw a punch at her, my fist was encrusted with Soul Fire.

Clementine managed to dodge and countered with an uppercut, with her fist encrusted with lightning

I blocked her attack, but she jumped into the air and hit me in the chest with a Spinning Back Kick.

Clem's leg was encrusted with cold fire.

I took the hit without flinching, and I quickly dodged a punch from Clem. Her fist was coated with ice.

"Enough. You did good Clementine. In fact, you almost had me." I said.

"Thank you Garath. I am happy to learn these abilities. Now I'll be able to protect AJ if I must." Clementine replied.

"Yes. Also, if your attacks come in contact with an enemy while your fist or leg is encrusted with ice, your opponent will freeze and you can finish them with fire or lightning." I said.

"Good to know." Clem replied.

I turned my attention to AJ.

"Now it's your turn. But don't worry, I know some perfect enemies you can practice on." I said.

"Thanks." AJ replied.

"Computer... Deep forest and spawn 3 wolves... Level 1." I said.

The scenery changed to a forest, and there were three wolves in front of us.

"Remember everything I taught you AJ, and you'll be fine." I said.

"Um, these enemies can hurt you, right?" AJ asked nervously.

"Yes, but remember; they're just training dummies. Once beaten, they disappear. And like I said, remember everything I taught you, and you'll be fine." I answered with a reassuring tone.

This gave him confidence.

"Right." AJ replied, as he got into a stance.

One wolf charged at him, but AJ hit it with a Spinning Hook Kick, and his leg was encrusted with green fire.

Another wolf rushed at AJ, but he dodged it with a Butterfly Twist.

Before the wolf could react, AJ hit it with a Snap Kick, and his leg was encrusted with ice. Upon contact, the wolf was frozen solid and AJ shattered it to bits with a flaming punch. The last wolf tried to sneak up from behind AJ, but he avoided the ambush by backflipping into the air. As AJ stomped on the wolf's back, he broke it's spine and his lightning-encrusted legs were enough to kill it when AJ landed on its back.

When the last wolf was killed, they all disappeared as the room returned to normal.

"Very good AJ. I'm impressed." I said while smiling proudly.

"Thank you Garath. Now I'll be able to defend myself and those I care about. If only mommy could see me now." AJ replied.

"Wherever your mother is AJ, she's proud of you. I'm sorry to say that she died when you were born. But don't worry. She's with God, and she's also in your heart. So even though you may have never had the chance to meet her, your mother's always with you." I said.

Although AJ did seem a little hurt to hear that his mother died when she gave birth to him, he was still happy to know that she's always with him.

"You're right. Although I am sad to hear that I've never had the chance to see my mommy, I'm happy to know that she's still with me." AJ replied.

I looked at Clementine and she was staring at me wide eyed. She seemed shocked to hear that I knew what happened to AJ's mother. But what seemed to surprise her the most is that AJ took the news better than she could've expected.

"Clem? Are you okay?" I asked, feeling concerned for her.

Clementine came to her senses and nodded.

"Yes. I'm just surprised that you know what happened to AJ's mother even though we've never met when he was born. And he took the news better than I thought he would." Clem answered.

"Well, you never noticed, but I was there when it happened. I was watching from the shadows and I witnessed AJ's birth. Back then, I was only 14 while trying to survive, same as you. I wanted to go with you, but I was afraid you would've killed me. So I believed that I would've been better off alone." I explained.

Clem's POV~

AJ knew what was coming and headed out to play baseball with Tenn. I just stood still with wide eyes. I couldn't believe that Garath was there when AJ was born and yet I never noticed him. I also understood his reason for carrying on alone. He most likely wanted to protect me back then, but he was afraid that I would misunderstand his intentions and kill him. Nonetheless, I smiled warmly and hugged him.

"I hate to admit it, but you're right. I would've most likely mistook you for a threat back then. So you made the right choice. But if you approached me and explained your intentions, I would've spared your life and took you with me." I said.

Garath smiled and returned the hug.

"I didn't know that until now. But nonetheless, I intend to keep my promise to always love and protect you, Clementine." He said, before pressing his lips firmly against my own.

We made out for a few minutes before pulling apart. I just smiled at him.

"I do too, Garath. Nothing will ever come between us." I replied.

As we sat down in the dining area, Clementine looked at me with concern.

"Venom. But don't worry, this isn't the poison that is normally used by many kinds of snakes. This is actually an energy drink. The flavor I have here is Mojave Rattler. I also have another flavor of Venom called Black Mamba." I answered.

Clementine smiled with relief.

"That's cool. I didn't know that kind of thing even existed." She said.
