Chapter 12: Scattered Without a Plan

Preview of Season 4 Part 3

Episode 9

Michonne and I started fighting off walkers until we got four walkers to become her and my two pets. We headed for the forest until we saw Hershel's head. She stabbed it then we knelt down beside it.

"I promise to honor you with everything you taught me," I said.

"He was proud of you for everything you've done for this group. And so am I," Michonne replied.

We hugged then headed for the woods. We kept walking until we found tracks.

"Who could those belong to?" I asked.

"Only one way to find out. We'll follow them and if it's anyone dangerous, we keep going or we fight if we need to. It'll be a miracle if we find anybody in our group after what went down today," Michonne answered.

We followed the tracks then slept in a car. I saw her wake up with a start. We got back on the search.

"Was it a nightmare?" I asked.

"Yeah," she answered.

"You wanna talk about it?" I offered.

She sighed and explained, "Before all this happened, I was in a relationship and had a son. My son named Andre, friend, and boyfriend were the world to me. Then when this started, they lost their way. My son was dead. They died and I took off their arms and jaws. My boyfriend and friend were the first two walkers I did that too. Now I heard you had a nightmare. What was it about?"

"Basically what happened at the prison. Except there were no hostages," I told her.

We kept going until we ended up in a horde. One looked like Michonne and she about freaked.

"Michonne, just keep going. It's going to be fine," I comforted her.

She did so as we kept walking. The horde got smaller and smaller, so we killed them all with her sword and my machete. She broke down crying and when she calmed herself down and we got back to where we found the tracks, there were a new set of them, so we followed them. We got to this bar where a walker was dead on the ground and chairs everywhere.

"I'll be back. I'm going to check on something," I said.

I went into a separate room, sat down, gripped my keychain, and silently cried.

I then replied, "Carl, I'm sorry I can't find you. I wish I could and it'll be a miracle if I do. I love you so much and I will not stop until I do."

Michonne was in the doorway, looking at me.

"Don't worry about it. I did the same thing to my dead boyfriend. The only difference is Carl is alive. Now let's head out," she said.

We kept going until we came across a house with an empty, huge can that used to have pudding in it. We walked up to the window and saw Carl and Rick eating. Michonne and I hugged each other and cried a little then knocked on the door. I heard Rick tell Carl that it was for him. It took a while, but he opened the door and I hugged Rick. Then when Carl saw me, he dropped his gun and we walked toward each other in a hug. I cried into his shoulder as he did to me. Michonne hugged us both after she hugged Rick. I found my family.

Episode 10

I sat by Rick, cleaning his injuries from his little powwow with the governor. Luckily, I brought my bag of medical supplies with me before we left the prison. I kept wondering how everyone was doing, but today, I mainly thought about Daryl and Beth, plus where Tyreese and whoever made it out with him. And Carol since she was on her own. Maggie and her group. Glenn. I wondered how they were doing.

"You got a lot on your mind?" Rick asked.

"Yeah. The group. Mainly Daryl and Beth. Tyreese. Carol. Maggie. Glenn. I don't know who all made it out, but I have hope," I answered.

I finished cleaning and patching up his wounds. I put all my stuff back in my bag.

"Go hang out with Carl. I'll be okay," Rick insisted.

"Okay, Rick," I kissed his cheek and went upstairs.

Carl was reading some comics in his room. I knocked on the door.

"Hey," he said.

"Hey. Mind I join you?" I asked.

He put his comic down and patted the seat next to him. I sat by him and rested my head on his shoulder.

"You wanna tell me what happened before we found you?" I wondered.

He breathed deeply then replied, "We were traveling. I was mad at him. When he was unconscious, I took care of the walkers outside and went for more food. I told his unconscious body that I would be fine if he died. Then I went out again and a walker almost got me, but it took my shoe instead. I found 112 ounces of pudding and ate it. Then that night, I thought my dad turned, but I couldn't shoot him. He finally spoke then passed out again. I held his head, telling him I was scared. The next morning, we patched things up and that's when you found us. What about you?"

I giggled at the pudding part then told him how Michonne and I found him.

"We left the prison with two walkers each as pets for camouflage. We followed some tracks and ended up in the middle of a horde, but they didn't attack us since we had walkers tied to us. When it got smaller, we killed the remaining few. We went back up and saw new tracks. We found this empty can of pudding in front of this house and that's how we found you," I answered.

We sat there in silence, just enjoying each other's company for a minute.

"I knew I would find you. I wouldn't stop until I did," I said, looking at him.

"Well, you found me. And I would do the same," he responded.

Then we kissed and slept in each other's arms.

Episode 11

I was woken up by a pair of soft lips on mine. I opened one eye to see Carl kissing me. I kissed back obviously. Then we went downstairs to eat breakfast. We had some fun with Michonne when Carl told us a story about when he tried soy milk and he threw up. Then when he mentioned Judith, he stopped and left.

"I'll go talk to him," I offered and went after him.

I found him in the living room, crying. I sat by him and hugged him. He told me about Judith the day we got here. Then he and Michonne went on a supply run while I stayed with Rick. He went to his room to read while I trained more downstairs with my machete. I knew that Carl still felt a little down about Judith.

Then I heard some people near the door, so I quietly ran to Rick's room where he was asleep. He woke up when they made noise.

"Rick, there are people in here," I whispered.

"Under the bed," he whispered back.

We crawled under the bed and someone came in the room. He searched the room for a while then sat on the bed. It felt like the dude jumped on it because I felt like he knocked the breath out of me. After a while, he snored annoyingly and another person came in. They fought and when one of them was on the ground, he saw us but the other guy knocked him out. Then the other guy jumped on the bed and the breath was knocked out of me again. Rick put a finger to his mouth to tell me to be quiet. He got out from under the bed, then helped me. We ran into another room and waited. The guy bounced a ball off the window in the room we were in. We tried to open the windows but to no avail. Rick grabbed a trophy while I had my machete at the ready. We ran in the bathroom after trying to get back to the bedroom, but someone was in there. We attacked until we suffocated him. Rick grabbed his gun and we went out the window after leaving the door open a crack. We got on the roof and walked to the edge about to climb down. I eased him down and when he was on the ground, I jumped and he caught me. We circled the house with guns at the ready. When we made it to the porch, someone was bouncing a basketball.

"What do we do now? Carl and Michonne don't know about this," I whispered.

"We'll figure something out, but for now, we lay low," Rick replied.

Then we saw Carl and Michonne. Finally the guy went back in and we ran toward them telling them to go. We all ran quickly. We made it to train tracks and walked for a while. Carl and I were hand in hand as we did. We found a sign that mentioned a place called Terminus. We continued to follow the train tracks to this possible sanctuary.

Episode 12

My mind kept wondering to where the rest of the group were. Mainly Daryl and Beth again. We've been walking for a while now, my arm wrapped around Carl's like he was escorting me. I rested my head on his shoulder while we walked a little bit behind Rick and Michonne.

"You good?" Carl asked.

"Yeah," I answered.

"I know you're thinking about the group. They're fine. They're fighters like you," he assured.

"I appreciate that, but do you mind if I ask you something?" I wondered.

"Go for it," he replied.

I sighed then asked, "Why do you keep thinking Judith's dead?"

He looked away from me and faced forward before he answered, "We saw her car seat. She wasn't in it, but there was blood on it."

"But how do you know if that was her blood? Someone from our group could've gotten her and is keeping her safe. The blood could've been from a walker or one of the governor's army people. She's still out there, I know it. Trust me," I explained.

"I do more than that. I trust you with my life," Carl responded.

I smiled at the irony and we stopped real quick to kiss. It was like our first one, sweet and gentle. His hand, caressing my neck while the other was around my waist. My arm was around his waist while the other hand under his elbow. When we parted and looked forward, Michonne and Rick were looking back, smiling and chuckling. We rolled our eyes, but chuckled ourselves in the process. Carl put his arm around me as we kept walking. The road to Terminus is long, but it'll be memorable.
