Chapter 1: How Rick and I Met

Preview of Season 1 Part 1

Episode 1

I've been with Rick's group for a long time. I live in Alexandria with them. But let me give you the gist of it all. It started when the dead rose in the beginning. I was around ten years old and I was in the same hospital as Rick. I was involved in a bad car accident about two years prior and I just had my last surgery. As I was waking up after the knock out gas, I realized that no one was there. All except one. I heard someone yelling weakly, "Nurse! Help! Nurse!" added by a few coughs. I limped with pain and approached a room with a bed in front of the door; this is what happened.

"Sir! Are you okay?" I asked.

"No. I can barely get up. Help me," he begged.

"Okay, hold on a minute," I replied.

I struggled to move the bed, but still managed. I opened the door and there was a man who was extremely pale and on the floor. I limped to him and helped him up.

"Thank you," he said.

"Your welcome, sir. What's your name?" I asked.

"Rick Grimes. You?" Rick answered.

"Jamie Dabbs. What happened to you?" I responded.

"Gunshot," Rick answered again.

"Surgery. I had a car wreck at least two years ago. I just got out of surgery to remove metal from my heel. Now, do you wanna see what's going on?" I asked.

"Yeah," Rick commented.

We walked out of the room and walked through the halls. We supported each other since neither one of us could really walk. No living person was around. We saw a door boarded up and there were growls and moans behind it. There seemed to be human-like creatures behind it. We didn't dare go near it. We exited the building to see body bags and a broke-down helicopter in the back. We kept walking until we found two bikes. Before we got on them, there was some type of zombie that was in half. Rick and I freaked out, but we rode to our houses.

"You live next door to us?" Rick asked.

"I guess so. I don't really know anyone named Grimes. At least that I know of. Anyway, let's check it out," I suggested.

We went into our homes, but they were both empty. My parents and siblings were gone. Possibly dead. I cried and I could hear Rick wail. Where are our families? I walked out to see another one of those creatures walk towards Rick. Then a kid walked up behind him and hit Rick in the head with a shovel.

"What are you doing?!" I screamed.

An older man shot the creature in the head as I ran to Rick. He was bleeding and hallucinating. The man demanded for Rick and I to explain his bandage and my cast. When he was knocked out, they helped me get him into the house. Their names were Morgan and Duane. Both of our bandages were replaced and we were welcomed in. We spent the night and found out more about the "walkers"; that's what Morgan and Duane called them. You have to shoot them in the head, when you die, you come back (but not in the way that would be a miracle), it's something in the brain that triggers the disease, all that. We learned how to fight them as we healed up. I even learned how to shoot a gun. My leg and his wound were improving. Finally, we had to say goodbye. Rick gave a walkie to Morgan and we were off to find our families. We were in Rick's police car driving along until he stopped for a minute. I recognized where we were.

"What are we doing here, Rick?" I asked.

"There's something I need to do," he answered.

He got out of the car and followed a trail. A couple of minutes later, I heard a gunshot. He killed that walker that was in half. He got back in the car and we were off to Atlanta.

Rick tried to contact anyone, but no one was picking up. At least on our end. He lifted the mirror to show a picture of his family.

"She's pretty. Same with the boy. He looks familiar," I commented.

"That's my wife, Lori, and my son, Carl. I hope they're okay," Rick said then stuffed the picture in his pocket.

We made it to this house to get gas, but the people were dead. Not undead; they shot themselves in the head. We then saw a horse. It was a little nervous, but Rick calmed it down. He climbed on with a bag of guns and helped me up. We made it to Atlanta, but it seemed deserted. A few walkers here and there, but nothing we couldn't handle. We continued to ride through the town until we heard a helicopter. We continued after it until we ran into a horde of them. We went the other way but there were more of them. We fell off the horse and the walkers ate it alive. I cried as we made it under a tank. We were trapped.

"Lori. Carl. Jamie. I'm sorry," Rick said, about to shoot himself.

But we found an opening and crawled in. Rick even shot the walker in there, but only for a ringing in our ears to take place. We looked outside to see the bag of guns outside. They climbed on the tank and we made it back inside. We were still trapped. That is until we heard radio static.

"Hey you. Dumb Ass and little girl. Yeah, you guys in the tank. You cozy in there?" a voice replied.

Episode 2

We answered it and heard a male voice, telling us to make a run for it. We had to check how much ammo we had. I had 12 rounds while Rick had 15 and a grenade. He helped us escape. We got out and ran, shooting walkers until we found someone who was alive.

"Not dead! Come on!" the guy shouted.

He was Asian and wearing a baseball cap. We climbed a ladder to a fire escape. His name is Glenn. We made it to the roof and climbed inside, went downstairs, then outside again where we met Andrea, Jacqui, T-Dog, and Morales. Andrea may have greeted us with a gun to Rick's face, but we made it out. Then we met Merle Dixon, who seemed to be a total jerk to the others. He started beating up T-Dog and punched Rick in the process. He wanted to be in charge. He got the other's votes since they didn't have a choice except mine and Rick's.

"There ain't no way you're in charge. You just beat up that guy for no freaking reason. A real leader wouldn't do that," I growled.

"Well lookey here. This little girl thinks she has a right to say something," Merle said, pointing a gun to my head, even though I didn't budge, then added, "Anyone else got a problem with that?"

"Yeah," Rick replied.

He hit Merle with a gun and handcuffed him to the roof. That guy got what he deserved. We came up with a plan to get through the sewers and out of the city. Glenn and Morales went through the sewers while Jacqui was on watch up above them. Rick, Andrea, and I went to the front where walkers were trying to get in. And T-Dog watched Merle while trying to contact someone on the other line. Rick let Andrea take a necklace for her sister, Amy. So I saw a key chain with my name on it and one with Carl's name, so I took them. One reason I took the keychain with "Carl" on it because the guy seemed cute. I'm not afraid to admit that, but the main reason was that if we got to know each other and if we got separated, we would have a piece of each other. As far as I knew, Glenn's plan was doing a good job. Until the first set of glass doors in front broke. One more section to go. So we got in lab coats and latex gloves to cover Rick and Glenn in walker guts. Apparently, walkers not only sense you by sound, but smell too. It was super gross. Both Glenn and I threw up as we continued to cover them up.

"I thought ten year old girls had strong stomachs," Andrea commented to me.

"Not when it comes to walker insides apparently," I responded, wiping my mouth from the vomit.

They went outside to make it out while the rest of us made it back to the roof to see how they were doing. It seemed to work. That is until we heard thunder. It was gonna rain eventually.

"Crap. If it rains, the stench will wash off. We have to help them," I said.

Sure enough the smell washed off. But they fought their way through and made it over the fence and to a truck. But they were going in a different direction.

"They're leaving us," Andrea gasped.

"No. Rick wouldn't do that," I defended.

Then Glenn told us over the radio to meet us at the back of the store. We ended up leaving Merle behind, but we ran and waited at the gate. We heard a truck and we opened the gate on Rick's signal. Turns out the walkers made it into the department store, but we made it out.

"Told you he wouldn't leave us," I smirked at Andrea.

"Shut up," she mumbled which made me chuckle.

We left Atlanta and turns out Glenn was having the time of his life in the red car with the alarm going off like crazy.

Episode 3

We kept driving for a while. I wouldn't say hours, but it sure felt like it. Glenn went past us as Morales warned us about Daryl, Merle's brother. When he finds out about Merle, man he was gonna be mad. We followed Glenn to this camp with like 15+ people. When Rick and I walked out of the car, we saw the woman and boy from his picture, Lori and Carl. They looked shocked to see him. They ran to him and hugged and kissed him. I just stood shyly in the back, but with a few tears shed.

"Who's this?" Lori asked, when she saw me.

"Wait, I recognize her. I've seen her at school," Carl answered.

"Oh yeah. I remember now. I'm Jamie by the way," I responded.

We hugged and I felt a slight blush come to my cheeks.

"Where did she come from?" Shane asked.

"We were both in the hospital. She was recovering from surgery to remove metal from her leg because of a car wreck two years ago. We helped each other. If it weren't for her, I'd be dead," Rick explained.

"Same goes with you, Rick. Merle would've shot me if it weren't for you," I responded, releasing Carl from the hug.

Everyone was shocked and asked the rest of the group that went to Atlanta if that was true. They nodded. We explained what else happened later that night around a campfire. I spent the night with Carl while Rick and Lori slept together.

The next morning, a girl a little older than me named Sophia, Carl, and I found a walker eating a deer. We screamed and the men came running. They killed it and that's when Rick and I met Daryl. He was a little bit less than a jerk than his brother, but that still didn't make him a best friend of everybody's. When they told him about Merle, like we suspected, he was mad. He fought Rick but they had him in a headlock and calmly finished the rest of what happened. Rick volunteered to go with Daryl to get Merle back. Glenn and T-Dog went too. That made me nervous that he was going along with three men, but it had to be done, not just for Merle, but for the bag of guns Rick and I left in Atlanta. So they borrowed bolt cutters from Dale and they were off.

Meanwhile, Shane taught Carl how to catch frogs while I watched. I laughed at the sight since it was super funny. They didn't catch anything, but it was still fun to watch. But I overheard Lori and Shane talking for him to stay away from her, Carl, and me. Meanwhile, Ed, Carol's sorry excuse of a husband, started harassing Carol and the others. What was his problem? Shane even beat him like crazy. I would rather put up with Merle than him any day. But Shane was taking it way too far. They yelled for him to stop, and when he did, Carol cried over him. Carol was a kind woman and no one should be treated like that. Little did we know that back in Atlanta, Merle was no where. The only things left were the hack saw, the bloody cuffs, and Merle's right hand.
