Bubbles

As he felt the girl's lips on his own, he felt the shock set in. The girl he'd abandoned. His best friend. The girl he'd broken by leaving. Only a week had passed since his return, and yet...

The only thing she could focus on was his surprise, and she figured he could feel the desperation in the kiss. She wanted him so badly, but he'd simply brushed off her feelings when he left...

He had loved her, and she had loved him. Both desperately wanted the other to love them, but the boy eventually gave up. His family had convinced him that she didn't want him, that he didn't deserve him, but the girl's family had done the opposite. They'd told her that she was good enough for him, and that he wanted her too.

And yet, when the girl finally worked up the courage to ask him, to tell him how she felt...he'd said no. He'd told her that he didn't love her. That he knew she didn't really love him. He'd denied her feelings, and walked out of her life.

How unexpected that she'd see him again, in the very place they'd first met, where she'd admitted her feelings for him? With another girl.

She seethed with rage. She was jealous that this girl had taken his heart from her. And yet...they  both seemed unhappy. They talked little, their eyes empty of that spark couples usually have. She watched as they walked through the park, until she couldn't stand it anymore.

She'd marched right up to them, shoved the girl out of the way, and pressed her lips to his. She didn't know why, but the kiss seemed to rekindle the fire in his eyes. His eyes began to shine once more, but he still stood still in shock, unsure of what to do.

So he pulled away. He'd closed his heart to her long ago, in order to ensure his own sanity. He didn't even care who she was, now. He had met new people. He'd moved on. He told her so, and said that she should too.

As he walked away, she fell to her knees and wailed. All her years of pent-up sadness and desperation were poured out into that kiss, and he'd simply brushed her off. He no longer loved her. They both knew it.

And like that, his shadow fell over her. She looked up to see the boy she'd fallen for, a knife in his hand, his eyes empty and cold. She raised herself up as much as possible, and she helped him push the knife into her chest.

She kissed him one last time as her vision went dark.

Caroline woke with a start. She sat up in her bed, drenched in sweat, before the tears began to fall. She began to cry, which quickly became sobs. Her boyfriend, who had been sleeping next to her, heard her crying and woke up. He quickly pulled her into a gentle hug, and neither said anything.

He was there for her. She was there for him. It was their unspoken agreement, and it would stay that way forever.

Caroline fell asleep in Jacob's arms, and he smiled down at her, planting a small kiss on the top of her head. He too, fell asleep, and the couple slept in each other's arms, the nightmare forever kept at bay.

So I might have written this for my girlfriend. Don't judge me.
