Playing With The Big Boys

Power, electric in nature, crackled and pulsated around a young vampire making it impossible to touch her. Felix and Santiago laid at her feet, their bodies convulsing by the current passing through them. The younger vampire scanned the remaining guards, daring them to move in on her and meet the same fate as their colleagues.

Aro sat on his throne, eyes focused on the power that the immortal before him held. Never in his 3,000+ years had he seen such raw power.

The girl, looked to be around the age of Alec and Jane, only with a twinkle in her eyes that neither of the Witch Twins possessed.

"Now," she began, pushing a lock of hair from her face, "before I was so rudely interrupted."

Felix let out a pain filled growl as the girl sent another pulse of electricity through him. "My creator would like a word with the three of you." The girl pinned each of the masters with a heated glare. "I suggest you come with me willingly."

Caius scoffed and readjusted the folds of his cloak. "I do not take orders from children, I'm a king!"

The girl crossed her arms and narrowed her gaze.  "More like an idiot."

Caius was in front of the girl in an instant, paying close attention to stay away from the outreaching threads of lightning dancing in a protective layer around the girl. "Say that once more child," he ordered through clenched teeth.

The girl smirked and took a step forward, her creator had made mention that one of the so-called rulers was hot tempered. Now she knew which one. She lowered her electric forcefield, she wasn't afraid of the Volturi; she knew what would happen to them if she was taken prisoner.

"You're an idiot, but you should have known that already."

Before Caius could reach for the ill-mannered child he felt his arms pinned to his side by two strong hands by none other than Aro. "Release me," he hissed.

Aro shook his head only to tighten his hold on Caius as he tried to free himself. Aro turned his attention to the girl who looked rather bored. The earlier events with the girl ran through his mind. She had come into the castle disguised as a tourist only to manage to save the tour group destined to be the Volturi's lunch before stating her true reason for setting foot inside their home. She was the emissary of someone greater than the kings, someone far older and more powerful. She had come in the name of her creator to bring back the ruling covens leaders either to hold a meeting or with their heads. The kings scoffed at her and her declarations for the unknown immortal and ask for her to be detained. That was when Aro and the rest of the castle found out the true extent of her powers when she was able to incapacitate not only Felix and Santiago but remove the twins as potential threats as well.

"And what will happen if we do not come willingly?" The king asked.

The girls bored expression was replaced in a flash with something far more sinister. "Then my creator will send another colleague of mine," she answered with a wicked smile, "and trust me when I say it will not be pleasant. He makes your highly prized guards look like they only perform parlor tricks."

Aro threw a glance to where Jane and Alec sat, both still trying to get their bearings after their shock treatment. He was curious to see what power could outshine both Jane and Alec but the little voice inside his head had voiced its want for survival. Aro withdrew his hands from Caius's arms and motioned for Marcus to join them.

"We will grant an audience with your...creator."

The girl bowed her head and looked back at her companion. He was no older than her, and easily described as an invisible figure. He was silent as he moved forward, not even the metal bracelets on his tanned arms made noise. His eyes, much like his companions were brown, not the familiar red or even gold of immortals that Aro knew. He held no expression on his face, the stoic one in the duo. The boy was tall with an athletic build and his movements carried no need for rush, as if he knew he could command the world to bend to his will.  He stopped at the girls side and raised his hand ever so slightly. He snapped his fingers making Aro and his fellows kings jump at the sudden thunderous noise that came from him.

The air in front of the kings began to change, to move as if by magic, slowly swirling in on itself until it was ripped apart by an unseeable force, revealing the lush green hills and trees of some unknown land. The kings stared for a moment at the portal, their minds not fully comprehending. The boy raised his hand only for the girl to fill his with hers as they turned to walk through the portal as if it was just some common thing for them.

Marcus was the first to follow his curiosity needing to be satisfied.  His follow kings joined him a moment later. The three stood in awe at the wonder around them. Everything was pristine, vines draped from marble pillar to the next and the small hot springs had rising steam. Flowers bloomed from the vines and clusters of people walked around without a care in the world. From what the masters could see and of what they remembered of their lost world, this city could easily be any bustling city in Ancient Greece. They heard the cries of merchants on the wind trying to sell good and services. Guards were posted on high posts watching the borders and citizens.

Only thing telling the masters any of this was real was the sparkle of each persons skin under the rays of the sun. Everyone in this city was an immortal.

'Where are we?" Caius breathed.

The boy spoke, his voice deep and rich. "I believe the humans call this Atlantis."

The girl chimed in. "But we call it Zaweth."

Aro walked forward, one hand brushing past the cool marble. "Where is your creator?" He asked as he watched two hybrid children run off in a blur.

"In the castle on the hill." The girl pointed towards the tallest hill. "But you are not allowed there."

Another portal was opened and the kids looked at the opening expectantly. They bowed their heads as a robed figure emerged and casually looked around.

"Creator y/n" both children greeted.

Y/n's eyes crinkled in the corners as they smiled down at the pair. "Arden, Julietta," the creator greeted softly, "I see you have fulfilled your mission."

Y/n looked between the masters and outstretched a hand. "Aro," Y/n greeted with a firm handshake before doing the same to the others. "Marcus, Caius. It's a pleasure."

"The pleasure is all mine," Marcus answered before drawing his attention back to a group of women walking past each with a basket of laundry under their arm. "It seems that you have not changed with the times."

Y/n rose a brow and looked around. "This side of the kingdom has not changed from when I was human, but different sections of the kingdom follow different time frames thanks to the help of some of our residential wizards and witches. We do that to make everyone feel at home."

The kings all shared a look and looked over to the two younger immortals. Julietta had modern clothing of the 2000s while her companion Arden wore edgy clothing of the 80s. They too were from different times as their creator wore simple robes over a white tunic.

"Follow me gentlemen,' Y/n commanded, "we have much to discuss."

"Of?" Caius asked.

Y/n's smile widened as Julietta and Arden came to their sides. "A great deal."

Y/n walked away with the kids at their heels and the masters following closely behind. As they walked they passed a group of children and their teacher who was currently explaining the process of photosynthesis about one of the purple flowers.

"You have schools here," Aro commented.

Y/n looked over to the group of students. "Ah, yes, Zaweth has many talented schools for the children and even adults. Education is an important tool in any society."

"You have immortal children..." Caius all but growled as two vampires walked past carrying a smaller bundle with red eyes, 'that is against our laws."

Y/n watched the young family pass by. "I do not bend to the might of your so-called laws."

"Then you boom us all!" Caius roared, "This is an action punishable by-"

Marcus and Aro both stared in horror as Caius stopped making noise. He yelled once more only to widen his eyes in alarm as no sound came from him. "That is much better," Y/n chuckled, "When you learn to use an inside voice you my have your voice back."

Arden let out a chuckle. The group came to a nearby tree with its picnic tables covered by the shade the oak provided. "Sit please."

Julietta and Arden sat beside each other as the masters took the other side of the bench. Y/n looked out over the rolling hills of their kingdom before looking back at the kings. "Shall we get down to business?"

"How about we get to ask some questions first?" Marcus asked.

Y/n waved a hand. "Be my guest."

Aro chewed on his bottle lip. "How old are you?"

Y/n turned to Julietta. "You're nearing your 100,000s."

Y/n motioned to Julietta, "What she said."

Aro nodded and remained quiet. "What is Zaweth?" Marcus asked.

"A safe haven for our kind, as long as everyone abides by the rules, they are free to live here in peace."

"No one has red eyes except a few."

"They have yet to except the offer the wizards offer to all new comers. The wizards have created a potion that helps us with our thirst and the results are quite impressive as you can tell," Y/n motioned to the vast kingdom, "No fighting amongst ourselves for territory and humans, we simply live and have deeper connections."

"This place is what the humans call "The Lost City of Atlantis" do you know that?" Aro asked.

Y/n nodded. "Of course, you let the mages throw up barriers for protection and everyone starts saying your kingdom fell into the ocean," Y/n rolled their eyes.

"The children-"

"-Either hybrids or made by magic rituals and potions for those who cannot conceive."

"Have I satisfied your questions?"

"For now..." Aro answered.

"Good," Y/n clapped, "now we can talk business."

All three kings shared a look as Y/n continued. "I don't mind the immortal world and mortal world living in harmony, in fact I quite enjoy it." Y/n rose from their spot on the bench and began to pace, "but when they begin to act like gods or enforcing laws that should not be, I have to draw the line."

Aro scrunched up his nose. "We have done no such thing!"

Y/n stopped and narrowed their eyes onto Aro. "The Romanians thought they could slaughter whole villages, the Egyptians believed themselves to be Gods, the Norse were fine until they couldn't control their thirst for power and blood."

Aro's heart sank. "I sent you to dispose of the Romanians and Egyptians, and implanted those ideas of the laws in your head Aro. Now I see you have strayed from the path."

Y/n shook their head. "You make laws you don't abide by, you steal other gifted vampires from their families, you tried to murder an innocent child who did not ask to be created, you lure in humans to their death, you promise immortality only to kill those who serve you, and you have destroyed the world I wanted you to create by your thirst for power."

Marcus went rigid. "It was my blood that gave you your immortality, your so-called gifts, and this is how you repay my sacrifice to our people? By killing them anytime they do something you don't like? You and yours must be eradicated."

"But-"

"-I am the true ruler!" Y/n bellowed as they slammed their hands onto the wood table and cracking it with the force, "I merely let you pretend to be in charge!"

Y/n took a calming breath. "Arden."

Arden snapped his fingers and three more portals appeared and out stepped three massive men that made Felix look small. "Julietta."

A forcefield wrapped the area, giving the masters nowhere to run. Y/n waved a hand. "Calix, Helix, Salix, dispose of them."

Aro was on his feet in seconds. "Wait!"

The trio did not wait, no they had all three pinned in seconds and was about the rip them to pieces. "We can change!" Aro screamed, "We can change!"

Y/n held up a hand to the warriors. "Explain."

"We can abide by your rules, make amends with those we've wronged," Aro felt cracks forming along his neck, "We can be the benevolent kings you want us to be!"

Y/n thought for a moment, rubbing their chin in thought. "I will check in from time to time to see that you are keeping your end of the bargain. The first sign of you resulting to our old ways and I will not hesitate to have you and your mate slaughtered.

Aro, Marcus, and Caius were released and a portal opened behind them. "I'll be watching you with great enthusiasm," Y/n called as the men stepped through.

Aro turned just in time to see the haunting smile of Y/n one last time. His hand went to the cracks on his throat that were healing. He could be the benevolent king, he would prove it.

Even if it was the last thing he ever did.
