Shouts of pain and screams of terror reverberated off the marble walls. The smell of blood clouded the senses. In the distance the sound of marble being broken put a much needed urgency in Y/n.

"Atticus," Y/n hissed, "get away from there!"

Atticus, a small hybrid who was a spitting image of his father, Alec, moved away from the window and came to his mothers side. Y/n grabbed the emergency bag  that her mate had prepared for instances like this. The Volturi castle was under attack, the enemy unknown to Y/n but she could take a guess, yet she couldn't focus on that right now.

No, focusing on who was moronic enough to attack her home wouldn't do her well, not when she needed to stay clear headed and get her and her son to safety. Just in that moment her unborn child kicked making Y/n  pause in her task of unlocking the safe to place a hand on her swollen belly.

"Mommy," Atticus's worry evident.

"I'm fine, Sweetheart," Y/n lied. She wasn't about to explain to her oldest how she was due to have their sibling at any moment.

Y/n threw open the safe door, grabbed the stacks of money and her and her sons passport, and shoved them into the bag. She reached out her hand to Atticus which he took without question as they made their way to the door.

Y/n cautiously opened the door to an empty hallway and the distant sound of fighting. Across the hall she could see the disarray of Demetri's and his mates sitting room and a single teddy bear by the door, meaning Yvette had already fled with their children. Y/n took a breath of relief knowing at least one other woman in the castle had the notion to flee.

Y/n closed the door and kneeled to Atticus's height as she readied herself for the inevitable. She knew the secret passages, the escape route she would take that was just at the end of the hall and led to the secret garage and cars the masters had installed after multiple guards had begun finding their human mates.

"Sweetheart," Y/n stated, smoothing down Atticus's cow-lick on the side of his head, "I need you to listen to Mommy and do everything everything I say."

Atticus's brown eyes clouded over in confusion forcing his mother to explain. "Bad people are here." Y/n removed the school items from his backpack and filled them with some money and a spare passport of him before slipping it onto his back and tightening the straps. "We need to stay quiet and leave before they find us- before they..."

Y/n stopped herself, the next words on the tip of her tongue. Before they torture and kill us to hurt your father.

"What about Daddy?" Atticus asked, his voice mimicking the whispering tone of his mother.

"He'll find us."

Atticus took a step back, dislike for his mothers answer painted on his face. "But-"

"-Daddy would want us to be safe," Y/n stated, her tone firm and unyielding, "Daddy wouldn't want us here, not when there's danger."

Atticus nodded as his mother took his hand once more and together ventured into the hall. Y/n kept a firm grasp on Atticus and tried to ignore the pain her other child was putting on her. Y/n reached down her bond with Alec, trying to feel him or at least let him know she and the kids were leaving only to be met with a blockage.

Fear ran down her spine as she tried not to dwell on it but her mind had begun to race. Was her husband dead? Was he simply blocking her out so she wouldn't worry more? Did he put up the barrier so he could focus on the battle?

Y/n paused at the end on the hall, peering around the corner her head sweeping left and right. The hall was empty and eerily quiet, most of the doors to the guards rooms were haphazardly thrown wide open, some hanging off the hinges from the occupants rush to defend their home and families.

Y/n gave a tug to her sons hand and together they turned right and stayed close the wall as they moved as quietly as they could. Y/n grounded her teeth as her unborn gave a firm kick to her ribs and she felt them splinter.

Don't scream, Y/n thought, don't let them know where you are.

The duo stopped before a marble statue of the late Queen Didyme that was a secret passage. Y/n released her child's hand to find the lever that would open the wall behind to the stairs. She managed to locate the lever, slick with blood and shivered before turning it. She slowly opened the door, praying to whoever would hear her plea to not let the opening make noise and give away her position.

The door was opened wide enough for her and Atticus to slip through and her to close it quickly enough. Y/n motioned for her son to come to her as peal of sinister laughter could be heard too close for comfort making Y/n and her son pause.

"Atticus," she whispered and motioned again.

Atticus ran to his mother and into the wedge and quickly followed by his mother and the door closing behind her. Two sets of footsteps could be heard.

"Check the rooms," a voice ordered. "Rumor has it the Tracker and Witch Boy have kids."

A growl answered back before steps could be heard retreating down the hall. Y/n waved her hand to Atticus to go down the stairs, her bringing up the rear and looking up every few steps to the door. Atticus waited for his mother at the base of the steps.

Y/n grabbed her sons hand, pretending not to notice the droplets of blood already doting the sand of the person passing through before them. Y/n guided her son, sticking close to the wall before a sharp gasp passed her lips. A wave-like pain started in her stomach, rolling its way down to the apex of her thighs. A chilling fear clutched her heart.

Contractions were beginning.

"No..." Y/n's voice wobbled, "not now."

"Mommy?"

Y/n tugged on her sons arm. "Come on."

She pulled Atticus in front of her and followed behind him, telling him where to turn and stop. Another contraction hit her making her lean against the wall for support and hands clutching her stomach.

"Please God..." Y/n whimpered. She didn't know exactly what she was praying for. Her sons safety, the delayed birth of her other child, the enemy not to find them. "Please..."

"Y/n?"

Y/n turned her head and nearly cried in relief. There with holding a small blonde girl holding her mothers shirt with a worried expression was Demetri's mate Yvette. Yvette, had a bandage arm and her torn scrubs covered in blood.

"Yvette..." Y/n collapsed under the next debilitating wave of pain.

Yvette set her daughter down next to Atticus and rushed to Y/n's side. "The baby...it's coming?" she asked, her voice laced with more worry as Y/n nodded.

Yvette removed her satchel and handed it to her daughter before throwing Y/n's arm around her neck and helped her to her feet. She couldn't leave her while her and her daughter ran to freedom.

"Yvette..."

"We're almost to the cars," Yvette explained as she practically dragged Y/n, "We have to get you and the baby somewhere safe."

Y/n felt her nails sink into Yvette's shoulder as another contraction hit although Yvette didn't complain. Ever the trooper and nurse who had been through worse, Yvette just kept walking/ carrying Y/n. Yvette made the kids walk in front of her, her daughter leading the way with Atticus throwing worried glances back at his mom.

The peal of laughter from earlier was heard making the small group stop. Only this time it was in the passage with them. Yvette whipped her head behind them and turned back to the kids.

"Courir," she ordered in her native tongue of French and her daughter grabbed Atticus's hand and ran.

Yvette quickly stepped up her pace with Y/n. Y/n fell to her knees as a pained scream finally escaped.

"Y/n!"

Y/n swatted at Yvette's hands. "Go!" Y/n cried, "You and the kids, run. Save....save yourselves..."

Yvette was on her knees in a second next to her friend. "I'm not leaving you," she stated furiously.

Both women could hear two men approaching too fast for their liking. "The kids..." Y/n sobbed.

Yvette waved off the kids. "Go! Run!"

"Mommy..." Demeter took a step back looking at the dark corridor awaiting both her and Atticus.

"Run! Hide!" Yvette ordered again. Her voice cracking as she lied. "We're right behind you."

Demeter was in tears as she tried to grabbed Atticus's hand only for him to pull away. "Atti-"

Atticus bolted towards the sound of the approaching men as his mother screamed and tried to follow him only to cry out as another contraction ripped through her. Atticus rounded the corner, his fathers words replaying through his little mind.

"Protect your mother until I get back," Alec whispered into his sons ear as he did every morning when Atticus and his mother would tell him goodbye when he left for his shift every morning.

"I will, Daddy!" Atticus would whisper back as he gave his father a final hug.

"I'm perfectly capable of protecting myself," Y/n would giggle as Alec would pull her into his arms and give her a farewell kiss. "And protecting our children."

"I know," Alec answered his eyes drifting down to her rounded belly, "but Atticus needs to get his practice in for when he becomes a big brother!"

Atticus stopped before the two men who were deciding which tunnel to take. One man noticed the small boy and nudged his companion.

"So," the red eyed man chortled, "the rumors are true."

Atticus heard his mom's pained scream and the two men turned their attention behind the boy. "And there's another down here."

Atticus stood straighter. "Turn around and leave," he ordered.

Both men shared a look before laughing at the child. "Tell you what kid," the taller of the two men said between chuckles, "You come with us and we won't hurt you."

"In fact," the other man took a step forward, "when our creators take over, we'll give you a position in the guard."

"No, thank you." Atticus snapped his fingers and a small spark ignited in his palm.

Both men took a step back, clearly their creators informed them the little problem immortals had with fire.

"Child-AH!"

Atticus launched a fireball big enough to take out both men out. The men screamed as the flames refused to extinguish as two more men came into view. Atticus readied another ball of flame only for the flame to diminish as his gaze focused on his father.

Alec's clothes were torn and cracks were on his face and hands healing. "Atticus?" Alec questioned, his eyes flicking between the men burning and his son.

"Daddy!" Atticus cheered and rushed forward hugging his fathers legs.

Alec bent down, picking up his son and hugging him. "Why are you here? Where's your mother?"

Demetri rounded the corner more his eyes fixed on the air. "She's here," Demetri let out a breath he wasn't aware he was holding. "So is Yvette."

The tracker ran forward, jumping over the now still men burning to ash. He ran, his eyes trained solely on Yvette's tenor that he barely registered he was on her location before a pipe was swung at his head. He dodged and raised to attack only to stop when he was peering into the eyes of his wife.

"Demi..."

"Baby," Demetri pulled her into his arms and kissed her, "Where's Demeter?"

Yvette's smile wavered. "She's with Y/n..."

Alec came around the corner. "Where's Y/n?" he asked, setting down his son, his eyes searching the area.

"Demeter is hiding her," Yvette answered, "And the baby..."

Alec snapped his attention to the woman. "Baby? Y/n...is she alright?! The baby, is it fine?"

Yvette called out in French and slowly Demeter's mirage of a wall fell away revealing both the girl and Y/n cradling a small bundle in a jacket.

"Y/n..." Alec breathed dropping to his knees and crawling over to his wife.

Tiredly, Y/n looked over to her husband and smiled. "Hey..."

Alec moved a strand of hair out of Y/n's face. "Hey Beautiful."

Y/n reached up a hand, touching a healing scar on Alec's face. "We have a daughter."

Y/n moved a fold of the jacket away from the baby's face. Brown hair and long curled lashes resting on plump rosy cheeks was all Alec could see.

"All ten fingers and toes," Y/n joked as she leaned her head on Alec's shoulder.

Alec held unsheddable tears in his eyes as he stroked a finger against her cheek. "She's beautiful," Alec kissed Y/n's head, "just like her mother."

Atticus rested on his fathers leg, looking at his little sister and tired mother before tugging on the torn lapel of his fathers suit. "Daddy," Atticus whispered to not wake his mother and sister.

Alec raised a brow. "What's up little man?"

"Can we get gelato? I'm hungry."

Alec suppressed his laugh and ruffled his son's hair. "How about we take care of Mommy and your sister?"

Atticus nodded and grabbed his and his mothers backpacks as Alec carried Y/n back to their room.

Demetri watched as the guard took his family away and turned to Yvette. "Babe-"

Yvette picked up Demeter. "-No."

Demetri held up his hands. "You don't even know what I was going to say!"

"You were going to ask me for another baby."

Demetri grew silent as Yvette walked after Alec up the steps. "But-"

"I said no Demetrius!"

A sigh could be heard followed by a quiet "Yes Dear" as Demetri brought up the rear.
