Deck the Halls
Christmas music played softly as to not hurt those with sensitive hearing. A young woman, 19-years-old, hummed along as she placed another ornament on a limb of the tree. Jane came over to with two ornaments and placed them onto the tree as well. In a chair, tied in a sparkly red garland, was none other than Jane's twin, Alec.
"This is demeaning!" Alec stated, pulling at the ties that bound him.
"I don't see how," replied Jane, "you deserve a timeout."
"An unfair punishment," grumbled Alec. "I did what was asked of me!"
The mortal turned and deadpanned, "We asked you to put the star of the tree-"
Jane interrupted, "-Not pounce on the tree and cause it to fall!"
"I didn't have a ladder!" argued the boy.
Both women looked over to the distant wall where a step ladder rested against it and back at the teen. "It wasn't here when it was needed?" Alec attempted to excuse but even to his own ears it sounded weak.
Both returned to the task of redecorating the tree as Alec continued his complaints. The woman felt a rush of cool before two hands covered her eyes and mint and cinnamon clouded her sense of smell.
"Felix," giggled the girl.
"Columba," Felix greeted.
A soft smile came to Alexandria's face as she turned around in Felix's arms. She used to hate the nickname, seeing how most of the immortals within the guard used nicknames as an excuse to not learn the humans names. But, after learning Italian in secret from the human staff members, she had quickly learned that Felix's use of a nickname for her came from a place of tenderness and joy.
"What are you doing? Demetri asked from his spot at the bar. "And why is Alec tied to a chair?"
Felix looked over to the boy and his annoyed sister. "Seems like something interesting happened."
Columba waved a dismissive hand. "Nothing import-"
"-They plan on sacrificing me to Kramp-"
Jane slapped a bow onto her brother's mouth, effectively silencing him for the time being.
Columba wrapped her hands around Felix's forearm bringing his attention back to her. "Help us decorate, Tiger." She begged, "Jane and I need to finish redecorating the tree since someone knocked it over."
Alec could be heard growling before the sound of granite colliding followed. Felix took a look at the bins of Christmas decorations and back at the girl.
"How can Demetri and I help?"
Demetri spit out his drink. "Me?!" Demetri slammed his drink down, "Why am I volunteered?!"
Jane shot a glare at the tracker and Demetri visibly flinched. "Well you can volunteer yourself or be voluntold, more precisely, tortured by me."
Demetri hopped over the bar and grabbed the nearest Santa hat and pulled it onto his head. "How can I help?"
Columba smiled and handed Demetri a bag of wall decorations. "You and Felix can deck the halls."
Both men gave a nod and headed into the hall, both taking opposite sides. Demetri rummaged for a moment before pulling out the ornaments he wanted and began hanging them in a tasteful arrangement. Demetri reached back into the bag for a red bow when the crash of marble caught his attention. He whirled around just in time to see Felix rearing back his arm to deliver another blow to the wall when Demetri grabbed him.
"What the hell are you doing?!"
Felix looked at the wall, his arm, and Demetri's horror stricken face. "Columba said to deck the halls!"
"Decorate the hall!" Demetri exasperated holding up garland and bows, "Not punch them!"
Felix made a small "Oh" with his lips. "So-"
Demetri fished his phone out of his pocket. "I'm calling maintenance," He sighed as he raised the phone to his ear, "And you are not allowed to decorate anymore!"
Felix snatched a bow from his friends hand and placed it to cover the hole. "Problem solved!"
Behind him he could hear Demetri mutter in Greek before telling the man on the phone the problems his oversized friend cause.
