Part IV: The Human
New character leeettttssss goooo
Bad opened his eyes, then immediately closed them again.
What?!
He carefully pried open his eyes again, gasping as he saw the vast amount of color around him.
He sat up, rubbing the back of his head where a headache was forming.
I must have passed out after going through the portal...
He got up, now noticing how exhausted he was. The wound on his ankle still burned, causing him to stumble slightly when he tried to put weight on it. He stabilized himself before limping off into the woods in search of, well... he couldn't think of anything.
Bad wandered through the forest for a few hours, exhaustion threatening to take over. The air here seemed cleaner than the air in the void, and slowly ate away at the grime in his lungs. The light coming from the sky had disappeared, not that Bad minded. The problem with it disappearing, however, was the monsters that started to spawn. He could easily fight them off, but the effort almost completely drained his dwindling energy.
He was running on his last reserves when he saw a light coming from a break in the trees. He stumbled closer to see a small campsite, a figure silhouetted against the campfire.
The figure seemed to hear him and moved to turn around, and panic swept through Bad.
He looked around, realizing that he didn't have enough time to hide. So, with the last of his energy, he used his magic to hide his wings before passing out cold.
Bad gasped and sat up quickly, or tried to, at least. There was a strange material wrapped around him in a cocoon-like manner, restricting his movements and trapping him in place. He was in a tent of some kind, mostly made up of oversized carpets and large sticks. He started to silently panic, frantically trying to think of a way to get out of his restraints. He was in a tent of some kind, mostly made up of oversized carpets and large sticks.
His panic increased exponentially when he heard rustling outside the tent. Suddenly, a wave of void magic ran up his arms and into his fingertips, causing the restraints to explode and shower soft white feathers everywhere. He quickly scrambled to his feet, eyes crossing as a feather landed on his nose.
Wait, feathers?
His confusion was interrupted by someone bursting into the tent. The person froze as they saw him and the feathers that floated around the small space like a snow globe.
"Dude. What did you do to my sleeping bag? And that was down! Down sleeping bags are so hard to find nowadays." The human spoke, feathers landing in his hair. Bad tensed up, and it backed up, hands out in front of it.
"Hey, I'm Skeppy, you passed out right by my camp last night, so I brought you in here. Nice to meet you I guess?" The human explained carefully.
Bad didn't speak, but continued to watch the human as it backed out of the tent.
He took a moment to assess his situation, checking to see if the spell held up overnight. Thankfully, it had, and his wings were safely hidden. He also noticed a strange white material loosely wrapped around his left leg, where he had been stabbed the previous day.
Bad carefully stuck his head out of the tent, noticing the human sitting by the firepit. He cautiously stepped out of the tent, going and sitting down on the opposite side of the campfire from the human, "Skeppy".
The human looked up, stopping his task.
"Hello..."
Bad nodded, crossing his legs and wrapping his tail around them.
"Ummm, would you mind telling me your name?" The human asked, tilting its head at him.
Bad didn't respond, instead focusing on what the human was doing before he had come out of the tent.
It was holding two strange rocks, tied together with a string. One was dark grey and cylindrical, while the other was silver and flat. The human appeared to be striking the silver one against the dark grey one, holding the grey one up to a piece of dry moss.
"Once I get this fire going, we should be able to make something to eat." The human's voice snapped Bad out of his thoughts.
The human continued the striking motion, and after a few minutes, the moss caught on fire. The human then grabbed the moss while it was on fire, placing it under a pile of twigs. The twigs started to catch fire as well, and the human placed a large piece of wood on top of them.
After about ten minutes, it had successfully made a decent campfire. It then went to its bag, pulling out a large piece of meat. He placed it on one of the rocks outlining the campfire, leaving it there and turning to focus on Bad.
"So, where did you come from? You're obviously not human." It asked him. He didn't answer, not trusting this human quite yet.
"It's ok if you don't want to tell me." Bad hoped that the silence that followed gave it enough of a hint. Thankfully, the human seemed to get it.
A long silence passed, the human occasionally turning the piece of meat.
"Wow. You're sure talkative." The human muttered, picking up the piece of meat and putting it on a small plate that rested on the ground next to it.
It pulled a small knife out of the pocket of its light blue hoodie, using it to cut the meat in half. It grabbed half of the meat in one hand, and picked up the plate in the other. It held out the plate to Bad, to his surprise.
Bad stared at the plate, slightly confused.
"Come on. Are you going to eat?" The human asked, taking a bite of the piece of meat in its hand.
Eat?
Bad wasn't entirely sure what that was.
He shook his head "no", and the human hesitantly pulled the plate back.
"Ok..." The human responded, eyeing him questioningly.
It quickly scarfed down the rest of the meat, before standing up.
Bad watched it as it took down the tent, folding the tarp that covered it and dismantling the sticks. It shoved the resulting pile into a bag, before shoving that bag into an even bigger bag.
He watched as the human disappeared into the woods with a bucket, coming back with it filled with a strange clear substance. It dumped the contents of the bucket onto the fire, putting it out with a large hiss.
The human continued to break camp, eventually putting all of its items in a singular backpack.
"Well, it was nice to meet you. I need to go into town, I guess I'll see you around." The human told him before hauling its pack over its shoulder, waving as it walked off into the forest. Without thinking, Bad followed it into the forest.
Opening a portal from the void to the overworld is like opening a bottle of Dasani water. Imagine you are trying to open said bottle of Dasani water, but couldn't break plastic. So no matter how hard you tried, you could not break that little plastic seal that held the cap in place. Now imagine that someone came along who could break plastic, and they took off the lid. Sure, they put it back on really tight, but they broke the seal. And now that the seal is broken, you can open that bottle of Dasani water. Sure, it might take a while, but it is definitely possible.
So, one day, you will be able to open the Dasani water, and drink from the sweet life nectar inside.
Don't y'all just love metaphors? How you can describe someone's eternal struggle or rifts in time and space using a physical place or object? That's just me? Ok then.
Anyways, a small announcement. I haven't been feeling great about my writing lately, and was planning on unpublishing this book. I decided against it, but this might mean that there will be slower updates. I know, how could I publish any slower than the snail's pace I do now? You would be surprised. Remember, this is a possibility, although I may suddenly get the inspiration to write the rest of this book in five minutes. So, be aware that my publishing schedule will be out of whack for a while.
On a lighter note, I hope you enjoyed! Your comments really give me inspiration to write, so thank you all <3. Also, please tell me what characters you want me to add. I don't mind if they are not part of the dream smp, I love peppering in references, although only people from the dream smp will be prominent characters.
Sweet nightmares everyone!
