Cogs Which Don't Turn

Lydia did not like this much, though she normally had a positive outlook on life. After all there were so many great things about the academy, she still remembered when her parents dropped her off with tears in their eyes.

The academy was huge and had awed her instantly, she had her mouth hanging open until a girl nearby had scoffed, Lydia ( or as she liked to be called by her nickname, Lucky ) had assumed she had a bad day and had closed her mouth. Lucky couldn't comprehend why people were always so rude, it was like they only focused on the bad, that's no way to live after all! Lucky felt horrible for them, she finished her thoughts and got up from her bed, she had woken up at 7:00 AM to get ready for school, which started at 8:20 AM.

Lucky got up and looked around her dorm room, luckily there weren't that many students here so each student got their own dorm room, though it was a fifty-fifty chance.

The academy, appropriately called 'Radiance academy' it was given such a name because of it's focus on making it's students talents bloom. Lucky loved to sing and dance, it was a strong passion.

However like most students here, she feared being labelled as worthless, it was when the school decided you were a lost cause and expelled you.

Lucky smacked her cheeks 'no negative thoughts!' she mentally scolded herself, chuckling at her red cheeks which reflected in the mirror. Her long and wavy blond hair cascaded down her shoulders like water falls, reaching her lower-back. Her evenly trimmed bangs and bright and innocent green eyes reflected, shimmering with happiness.

Lucky smiled and continued her daily tasks.

Lucky was practicing her vocal warm ups, her soft voice echoing through the dance room, which was empty. She had been pulled out of class and asked to come here, after all they had normal lessons as well as their special lessons, it was still a school after all.

Lucky paused her vocal exercise "I wonder why Mrs. Andrews told me to come here." Lucky muttered to herself curiously, her childish face clouded with murky thoughts.

Lucky jumped slightly as she heard the door open and she could count five footsteps, she turned around and saw three other students and two teachers, including Mrs. Andrews,

One girl had long, straight black hair which ended at her thighs, along with piercing blue eyes, she seemed serious, holding a stoic expression.

Of course all of them were wearing the school uniform, black skirt, white knee socks, white blouse, red tie and a black coat over top of the blouse.

Another had brown hair that had one dyed blue strip on the left side of her face, she wore a confident smirk on her face, reminding Lucky of a fox.

The last looked calm and innocent, with a soft look on her face, she had bleached white hair that had a small braid on the right side, the braid barely contained any of her hair, it was merely for decoration. Lucky decided she liked her the best.

The male teacher who Lucky hadn't noticed cleared his throat, interrupting the girls from assessing each other "Well, all of you are failing..." he started, Mrs. Andrews had a grim look on her face.

All of us seemed shocked except for the black haired girl, who's eyes just widened. The brunette whipped her head around, balled her fists and demanded "What do you mean?!" rather loudly, I flinched, she was intimidating.

The black haired girl was tallest, then the brunette, then the white-haired girl, and I was the shortest. I didn't have time to dwell on the thought as Mrs. Andrews waved her hand in a 'calm down' motion.

"Now, now, do not panic, we predicted that if you all work together that you have a chance of passing the upcoming test." she reasoned,

"Which is in two months." the black-haired girl shot back monotonously. Mrs. Andrews gave her a sheepish look, "Yes, but I think if you work hard, you will be fine..."

The brunette scoffed "As if I would work with anyone, they will slow me down, plus there isn't enough time." she closed her eyes sarcastically and raised her hands in mock surrender, the tallest girl glared at her, disgusted.

"At least try, unless you want to be kicked out." Mrs. Andrews made a fair point, I wanted to be friends with them!

The brunette hesitated and huffed, surrendering. The male teacher stood up straight "Let's start with introductions." he commanded.

I smiled brightly and put my hand up "My name is Lydia! Though please call me Lucky!" I cheerfully called out, the white-haired girl smiled gently "My name is Serena, nice to meet you." she bowed politely as she introduced herself, I grinned at her.

The brunette grinned and pointed to herself with a thumb "I'm Octavia" she proudly declared. The black-haired girl elegantly put a hand to rest lightly on her heart "I am Alice" she told us, she was so graceful!

This was going to be an interesting year, that's for sure!
