4. Do my eyes deceive me?

Jasper watched kids pass, he was in an urban town now. He watched them talk with each other and ride red shiny bikes. They all were walking to the same place, school, but the similarities stopped there, for they were walking for ten minutes, but Jasper had walked two hours. The only hope of him getting there was his brother, who was ahead by a few paces, pretending not to know the boy. It was a shame that Jasper lived so far away, but he didn't mind, the walk was beautiful. Watching the woods turn into beautiful homes and paved streets, watching birds swoop and sing beautiful songs. He looked ahead again, the school was coming up close, he grinned, anticipated his first day of school.

When Jasper entered the classroom, watching the rowdy kids pick the seats closest to their friends. "Sit down, little girl!" Jasper turned, the teacher stood behind him, and elderly women. A little girl? He didn't look like a girl, did he? Jasper took a second to examine himself, his clothes looked normal enough, a black long sleeved shirt and some jeans. Well, his face was angled, and his skin was pale and devoid of marks, maybe that was it? Or his hair, yes, his hair. Black and long, shoulder lengthed. Jasper decided he did look similar to a girl, but he wasn't.
"Oh, I'm sorry, but I'm not a little girl." The teacher looked closer, her face screwing up with disgust, "Yeah, I guess you are. Go to the back, so I don't have to look at your face." Quietly, Jasper did,He chose the desk in the corner, farthest from the desk. He carefully sat down his things, hesitating when he realized the kids around him were getting up and leaving, the same look of disgust on their faces.
"Look at his hair..."
"He looks like a girl..."
"haha, watch this!" The boy speaking got up, walking over to the boy. Pushing my things off my desk, he leaned against it, "Hey, Faggot"
Jasper offered a smile, "Hello, my name's Jasper."
"Yeah, whatever Fag."
Jasper frowned, he didn't understand why this boy was calling him names, had he done something wrong? The boy grinned, leaning closer, "I didn't know they allowed sick animals in here."
"Oh, I didn't know either."
The boy snarled, grabbing him by the shirt, "Cut the shit," Jasper flinched, he continued, "You're in my seat." Violently, he threw Jasper to the ground, kicking his things away. He quickly gathered his things, apologizing as he scrambled away. He went to the farthest corner, hoping no one else would talk to him. The teacher announced her name, the class started.

Jasper sat down at a cafeteria table, most of the seats were taken, so there were a few kids at the table. Seeing the strange appearance of the boy, they started to chatter.
"Oh my god, is that a guy or girl?"
"I heard Trever calling him a faggot."
"So it's a guy?"
"I guess, but he looks weird, look at his hair!"
The comments got worse, Jasper slowly started to breakdown, tears pricking his eyes.
"He's gonna cry!"
"How pathetic!"
The voices swirled together, becoming one big mess I couldn't understand, but one voice stood out.
"I can't stand the look of him, let's go."
The voices faded, leaving him alone. Alone he thought. Alone he wasn't.

"They're scared of you."

Jasper shook the voice away, that wasn't true. But if it was, then of what? Jasper wasn' scary, he was a kind boy, who wanted nothing more than a friend.
Friend.
Jasper never had a friend before, the kids never really talked to him, but they weren't like this! He had Erik, had, It changed when his parents started fighting.
"No, they're just nervous." He told the voices, puashing teh food on his tray around.

"They're pathetic, kill them."

Jasper froze, his eyes widening, he wasn't expecting the sudden hiss. Suddenly, the world churned, everything faded away. He was alone, standing in a vast void. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw them. Ghoulish creatures writhed and clawed around. Jasper gasped, stumbling back as they came closer. He could see them now. Skin and flesh calling off, blood splattering all over the place. He could see splintering bones and sharpened teeth, flicking tounges and split eyes.
Jasper screamed, the monsters leaped at him, digging their claws and teeth into his flesh. Pain shot through his body, but it all stopped, the hellish world melted away. He was back in the cafeteria, all kids staring at him, teachers running over to see if he was okay. He started laughing, realizing it wasn't real, he was safe and okay. A teacher grabbed his arm, dragging him away, fearing he would harm others.
But they didn't truly care? Did they?
