Part 7

I bite my nails anxiously after I sent my home address to Taehyung.
Is he coming here? What if he gets caught by the security guard? Oh God, I should stop him.
"The number you are calling is unavailable."
"Shit.." I curse as my call fails to go through again.
Where is he?
An hour has passed, yet I still can't reach him.
"Kim Taehyung, if you don't pick up my call, I'll die from anxiety." I mutter to myself as I lift the phone to my ears for the umpteenth time.
Right then, I hear a faint click on my door.
Abeonim?
I quickly hide the phone underneath my blanket & pretend to sleep.
The door slowly creaks open & I can hear footsteps approaching.
My heart hammers inside my chest as I try to keep my eyes shut.
Why is he suddenly checking on me? Did Hana tell him about my secret? No, that's impossible. She promised to help.
The mattress dips slightly. Someone is sitting on it.
Why is he not saying anything? Wait.. What if it isn't Abeonim?
My eyes instantly snap open & I turn my head around.
"Shhh.. It's me." The person muffles my mouth & whispers.

Taehyung?
"Surprise." Noticing my shocked expression, he chuckles & retracts his hand.
"Omg, are you crazy?! You could've gotten caught! How did you get in anw? All the doors are already locked at this hour." I try to keep my voice as low as possible.
"Well, let's just say that I have my ways. Aren't you happy to see me?" He grins.
I'm ecstatic to see him, but what he's doing is beyond risky. Coming to my room in the middle of the night is on another level of reckless.
"Uhm.. Yes, but what if-"
"Shhh.. Stop worrying about things that might not happen & enjoy the moment. If your father finds out, just tell him that I'm your boy friend." He nonchalantly says as he lies down beside me with both hands behind his head.
"Things are not that simple." I frown at his underestimating attitude.
"On the contrary to his public image, my father is not an amicable person. You won't be able to fathom the mental abuse that I've been receiving all these years. He would punish me for the smallest mistakes & make me think that I deserve it. I have to constantly think of the right words to say, the right thing to do, so that I won't anger him. It's so tiring that sometimes I feel like giving up." I sigh heavily.
"Then why don't you give up? Why don't you just pack up your bags & leave?" He gently strokes my cheek.
"Funny, Hana eonni actually said something similar. Well, no matter what, he's still my father. I can't leave him even if he's the most ruthless man I've ever known. Besides, I have found my temporary escape from this hell hole." I abruptly change the topic to lighten up the mood.
"Really? And what is that?" He asks in genuine curiosity.
"You." I peck his lips & chuckle.
A smile curves his lips at my sudden brazen action.
"You've become bolder & bolder every time I see you. Where is the shy virgin who I met at the beach?" He teases.
"She's gone after you took away her virginity. Omg, I can't believe I said that." I cover my mouth to muffle the laughter escaping from my throat.
"Either way, you fascinate me Y/n ah. No one has ever made me feel this way. This is a first for me."
His expression turns serious all of a sudden as he puts a strand of hair behind my ear.
I'm lost in his calm yet dangerous gaze. My pulse races uncontrollably, anticipating his next move.
He glides his fingers behind my neck & brings my face closer to his, making me instantaneously whimper & open my mouth.
Without wasting a second, he locks his lips with mine, our tongues rubbing against each other. The kiss feels much more thrilling than usual due to the precarious nature of the situation.
His other hand snakes around my waist & pulls me in tighter. A blazing desire burns within me as I feel his bulging manhood on my stomach.
"T-Tae.. My father will hear us.." I moan against his lips, actually reluctant to stop what we're doing.
"Fuck. I can't control myself when I'm with you." He abruptly pulls away & bites his lips.
"I'll take that as a compliment." I giggle to calm my nerves.
He stares right into my eyes in silence, but instead of the usual fire, I detect uncertainty in his gaze.
"What's wrong?" I cup his cheek & ask.
"Nothing." He quickly sits up & turns his face away.
"Tell me Tae." I hug him from behind & lay my chin on his shoulder.
"Tae? I like that nickname." He chuckles, obviously trying to divert my attention.
"Come on. Tell me. Is there something bothering you?"
"I just- I just wish that we had met in a different circumstance. I don't think our relationship will work out. One of us is bound to get hurt." He pushes his hair back & sighs heavily.
"We don't know yet. My father may be strict, but I'm sure if we keep trying, his heart will melt one day." A sadness falls upon me.
I don't want him to give up before we even begin.
"I doubt that. Let's not talk about that anymore. Tell me about yourself." He plops back down beside me. The playfulness in his eyes has surfaced again.
"Uhm.. There's nothing much to tell, my life was pretty boring before I met you. As you know, I'm not allowed any entertainment, no phone, no TV, only newspapers & books. He even picks the books for me, which are mostly heavy non-fictions. The only enjoyable thing that my father set in my schedule is volunteering at the kid's ward in the hospital. Seeing their innocent faces give me so much joy, even though sometimes it's heartbreaking when I witness those with terminal illnesses slowly deteriorating. People think that my life is so perfect because I live in a beautiful mansion, wear branded goods, surrounded by assistants & chauffeur. But I would trade all of these luxuries for a moment of freedom. Anw, what else do you want to know?"
"I don't know if I may ask this, but where's your mother? You can choose not to answer it if you don't want to." He asks hesitantly.
"That's ok. Everyone already knows about it anw. She ran away with my father's friend when I was very little. I don't even remember her face. He burnt all her belongings when she left. So.. that's my sad life. Now tell me about yours."
"Well, my life is pretty sad as well. I'm an orphan. I grew up in an orphanage. Until now, I still have no idea who my parents are, whether they're still alive or not. But honestly, I'd rather have no one than have your father as a parent. Sorry." He shrugs.
"There's no need to apologize. I think that way too sometimes when he does something very hurtful." I smile understandingly.
We stay quiet for the next few minutes, me cradled in his arm, only the sound of our breaths filling the static air. Yet, it isn't awkward. It's a serene comfortable silence that you don't mind letting it stretch.
"Tae?" I call out his name. No response.
I look up & find that he has closed his eyes & is snoring lightly.
He must be tired.
I lift myself up & observe his sleeping face. His long lashes fluttering lightly with every breath, like the delicate wings of a butterfly. His kissable mouth slightly ajar, his black hair falling over his forehead.
I trace a finger from the bridge of his nose to its tip & then land a soft kiss on his cheek.
"Good night Tae. I love you." I whisper.
And then, I slide back to my original position & let the rhythm of his heartbeat lull me to sleep.

Taehyung POV
I open my eyes once I sense that she's fallen soundly asleep.
Her head is still nestled on my shoulder, her body curving towards mine. I carefully slide my arm & put her head onto the pillow, trying not to wake her up.
I take a look at her, her smooth pale complexion illuminated by the moonlight peeking through the curtains.
She looks so pure. Like an angel.
A deep sense of affection towards her overflows in my heart, causing me to feel even more conflicted than I already am.
"I love you."
Hearing her saying those three words should make me feel triumphant, because that means that I've gained her complete trust & her heart is under my control.
Yet, I don't feel happy at all. It only makes me want to run away.
You can't give up now Taehyung ah. You have to continue this relationship for her sake.
I quietly get off the bed, tiptoe towards the door & walk out without turning back.

Y/n POV
Bam bam bam.
The sound of someone knocking on the door disturb my peaceful sleep. Thinking that it was a dream, I pull my blanket higher & continue sleeping.
"Y/n ah, are you awake?" Abeonim's voice echoes through the door.
Wait. Abeonim?
My eyes instantly snap open as I turn to my side.
He's gone.
I breathe a sigh of relief when I see the empty side of the bed.
"Kang Y/n? Are you going to let me wait here all day?" Abeonim knocks again.
Shit. Did Tae leave any trace? Where's my phone?
"Just a moment Abeonim." I frantically flip my blanket & search around the surface of the bed, but I can't find my phone.
There's no time. If I keep him waiting any longer, he'll be suspicious. Breathe, Y/n. Breathe. You need to stay calm.
I clear my throat & walk towards the door.
"Good morning Abeonim." I bow at him as soon as I open the door.
"What took you so long?" He frowns, annoyed.
"I'm sorry. I was in the restroom. Is there something wrong?" I put on my best poker face.
"Nothing. I just feel like coming to your room. May I come in?" He raises his brow.
"Of course you may. Please." I open the door wider & let him in.
He walks slowly around the room, turning left & right as if looking for something.
What is he searching for? Wait. Does he know that Taehyung was here last night?
He abruptly stops near my bed & sniffs.
"Did you buy a new perfume? Your room smells different." He comments.
Fuck.
"I didn't. Maybe the maids change the detergent for the bedsheets. I noticed the difference too, but didn't mind it so much because it wasn't bothering me." I utter the excuse off the top of my head.
"I see." He throws me a side glance & continues strolling along the bed.
Then, I see it. My phone is lying on the floor, near the front leg, & Abeonim is going towards that direction.
Oh no. Oh God no. Please don't let him see that.
I helplessly close my eyes, waiting for his wrath to descend upon me.
"Time to wake up, Y/n ah." Hana walks through the door & calls out, making Abeonim & I abruptly turn our heads towards the door.
"S-Sajangnim. Good morning." Hana seems startled when she sees Abeonim standing in the middle of my room.
"Y/n ah?" He frowns, his gaze full of disproval.
"I- I meant, Miss Y/n. I'm sorry, it was a slip of the tongue." She quickly bows & doesn't dare to lift her face up. I can see her fingers trembling in fear.
Abeonim is very strict about formality. He thinks that we are above our employees, so they should always show respect to us. Once, he fired a maid on the spot because he overheard her calling him by his first name behind his back. So Hana has definitely committed a huge crime in his dictionary.
I'm relieved that he doesn't notice the phone, but now, I'm worried about Hana.
"You are being rather too comfortable recently, aren't you Hana ssi?" He raises his brow & steps slowly towards her.
"I-I'm not, Sajangnim. I'm so sorry." She stutters while still keeping her head lowered.
I can't let him fire her. She's my only friend.
"Abeonim, I apologize. She's my assistant, so it's partly my fault too for not teaching her better. Please forgive me & Hana ssi." I stand in between him & Hana & bow at him.
Surprised by my action, he stares at me wide-eyed. Slowly, the frown in between his brows loosens & he bursts out laughing in the end.
"Hahaha! Very good my daughter. I appreciate that you understand how to take responsibility of your subordinate's mistake now. So of course, I'll forgive you as God always teaches us to forgive people who do us wrong."
"Thank you Abeonim for your big-heartedness. Hana ssi, you need to thank Kang sajangnim too." I turn to Hana & say sternly.
"A-Ah yes. Thank you very much Sajangnim. I promise I won't repeat the same mistake again." She apologizes while bowing repeatedly.
"Good. Now, I need to get ready for work." He motions towards the door.
Hana & I exchange a relieved glance, but then he halts his steps again.
"Ah, I almost forgot why I came here for. Y/n ah, did you hear any weird noises last night?" He turns back around & asks.
"Uhm.. What noise? I don't think so." I quickly move to block his vision from the phone that's still lying on the ground.
"Well, the security guard told me that the alarm was turned off when he checked it this morning, while he clearly remembered turning it on last night. I wonder if it was the deed of an intruder or a glitch from the system. Are you sure you didn't hear anything?" He tilts his head & stares right into my eyes.
Shit. It must be Tae.
My heart is racing uncontrollably, but I manage to maintain my gaze.
"I went to bed pretty early last night, so I didn't hear anything. Is anything missing?" I try to keep my voice as steady as possible.
"No. Which makes me feel even weirder. What's a thief doing in a house if he's not stealing anything? Hm.. it might be a glitch. Anw, don't worry about it, I'm sure they'll find out what caused it soon. Go on, do what you need to do." He flicks his hand & steps out the door.
"Yes Abeonim." "Yes Sajangnim." Hana & I bow & say in unison.
Once Hana has closed the door, I immediately rush towards the phone & throw it inside my bedside drawer.
"Omg, I almost had a heart attack. Thanks for saving me." Hana clutches her chest & exhales deeply.
"No. You saved my life. He almost saw my phone which I accidentally dropped on the floor, but then you walked in. So thanks eonni." I flash her a half smile, despite the growing unease inside me.
"Hey, what's wrong?" She frowns, noticing my worried expression.
"About that intruder.."
"Oh, are you worried about the thief? Don't think about it, nothing is missing anw. Maybe it's just a glitch like Sajangnim said."
"No, it's not.." I mutter quietly.
"What do you mean it's not? Did you actually hear anything last night?" Her eyes widen in curiosity.
"Well.. It was Tae. He came to visit me last night." I bite my lips & admit.
"What?! Kim Taehyung?!" She exclaims & I hastily muffle her mouth.
"Shhh, not so loud." I whisper.
"Did you tell him to come here? Omg, you're crazy! You're basically luring him to the lion's den. Aren't you scared that your father will find out?!" She hisses.
"He asked for my address so I gave it to him. I didn't think that he would really come. Now the damage is done, we just have to make sure that Abeonim won't find out who turned off the alarm last night."
"Hmm.. That's kinda suspicious. I mean, the alarm system in this house is quite sophisticated. How could he turn it off so easily?"
"I don't know. He just did. Anw, let's get ready now before Abeonim starts asking questions again." I hurriedly stride to the bathroom.
"Y/n ah, I don't trust him. What if he's not as good as you think he is?" She grabs my wrist & says in concern.
"Eonni, if he were a bad guy, he would've harmed me last night. So stop worrying so much." I smile assuringly at her.
"You've only known him for such a short time. You can't know what kind of person he truly is." She asks, her face dead serious.
"I know that you might find it hard to believe but you need to trust me. I love him & I'm sure fate has brought us together. I feel such a strong connection with him that I've never ever felt before." I try to persuade her.
"God, you're so stupid.." She scoffs lightly.
"What did you say?" I'm taken aback by her comment & think that I've heard her wrong.
"Nothing. I just hope that he won't disappoint you in the end. Let's go. We're late already." Her customary smile is back on her lips.
I think I've burdened her too much with my secret relationship. Maybe I shouldn't tell her anything so that she won't have to worry.
