Part 21

Later that night, Jimin POV

"Omg.." I muffle my mouth in disbelief.
Even though the picture is blurry, I recognize the man right away.
That's Lawyer Park from Kang sajangnim's office. Shin Minji must be a patient in the hospital. Why is Y/n interested in her? Why is someone trying to conceal her existence? What is her relationship with Kang sajangnim?
So many questions run through my mind & I'm desperate to know the answer.
Wait. Kim Taehee. Where have I heard that name before?
Suddenly, my eyes light up as I remember something.
I rummage through my drawer & find the files which contain information about Taehyung that I gathered when I did a background check on him.
My fingers flip the pages rapidly as I skim through the words. Finally, I've found what I'm looking for. His files from the orphanage he grew up in.
"Kim Taehyung. Born December 30th, 1995. Left on the sidewalk in front of the orphanage with his twin sister, Kim Taehee."
My eyes widen in shock & I read the file again from top to bottom to make sure that I wasn't hallucinating.
He has a twin sister named Kim Taehee. Is she the Kim Taehee who is confined in the hospital? Or is it just a coincidence? What is going on? There's only one way to find out.
I close the folder & start planning.

The following day, Taehyung POV
"You cocky son of a bitch! I'm gonna beat you to death today."
The brute starts punching at my torso while his two accomplices pin my hands behind my back.
Sharp pain reverberates through my body as he throws punches after punches, but I bite my lip & endure all of it in silence. I refuse to give them the satisfaction of seeing my pain.
"That should teach you some manners." The big man stops beating me & pants, gasping for air.
"Is that all you've got?" I chuckle lowly.
"What? What did you say?" He straightens his posture again & steps closer to me.
"I said, is that all you've got, you worthless dog?" I lift my gaze to meet his & smirk.
"You- Fuck, I'm really going to kill you." His knuckles hit my left cheek hard, making blood sputter out of my mouth.
"Ya Kijoon ah, not the face! Do you want to get us in trouble again?!" One of the guy behind me exclaims.
"What's going on?!" Right then, an officer shines his flashlight into the dark laundry room we are in.
"Nothing Officer. We were just doing our laundry duty. Have a good day." The three men hurriedly bow at the officer & walk out of the room.
"Wait. You guys stay. Hey you, what happened to you?" The officer flips on the light & asks as he sees my bruised face & split lip.
The three men exchange anxious glances behind him. I look at them & think about what to say.
If I tell the officer that they beat me up, they'll only beat me even harder next time.
"Nothing. I fell down the stairs earlier. Excuse me Officer, I need to finish folding these up." I bow at him & continue folding the towels.
"Are you sure?" The officer raises his brow in suspicion.
"You hear him, Sir. He's very clumsy & often hurts himself, right guys?" That Kijoon guy turns to his friends for support & they readily nod in agreement.
"Fine then. Continue whatever you were doing." The officer turns on his heels & leaves.
"Luckily, you still have some sense in you Kim Taehyung. But that doesn't mean that we'll stop beating your ass." Kijoon & his friends walk away laughing.
You must persevere Taehyung ah. Don't let them break you.
I rub my eyes with the back of my hand to stop the tears from falling. Then, I let out a long breath & continue my task.
Once I go back to my cell, I take off my clothes & observe my torso. The bruises Kijoon inflicted on it have turned black & blue. Grimacing, I slowly put my clothes back on & lie on the hard single bed.
My mind automatically wanders to Y/n as it has been for the past few days.
She's pregnant with my child, yet I will never be able to see them again.
"5031! Someone is here to see you." Officer Lee calls out as he unlocks the door to my cell.
Again? Who is it?
"I know what you want to ask. It's a guy this time." Officer Lee says before I even open my mouth.
A guy? Who? Yongsan? Or.. Kang Jihwan?
"What happened to your face? Did those brutes beat you up again?" Officer Lee stares at my bruised face & asks.
"I fell. Is he old or young?" I change the topic abruptly.
"The visitor? He's your age."
My age? Yongsan? Is he coming to ask me to give back the money I took? But why now?
"Don't bang on the separator again like last time, ok? Or you'll be banned to accept visitors." Officer Lee warns before I enter the room.
"Yes, Sir." I nod at him & let him open the door for me.
My blood boils instantaneously when I see the man who's waiting for me on the other side.
Park Jimin.
I plop heavily down onto the chair & glare at him, a deep frown knitting my brows.
"What do you want?" I hostilely ask as soon as I put the phone on my ear.
"What happened to your face?" He asks.
"It's none of your business. Why are you here? Did Kang Jihwan asked you to see me? Tell him that I'll kill him with my own hands after I'm out of here." I hiss.
"No. I came here on my own will because I have something to talk to you about."
"I'm not interested in talking to you. We're done-"
"Kim Taehee." He blurts out the name & I instantly freeze.
"W-What?" I stammer.
"Kim Taehee, your twin sister. Where is she now?" He asks with a deadpan expression.
"How did you find out about her? How do you know that I have a twin sister?" Hatred & agony starts gurgling inside me as the bad memories come flushing back.
"It was written on your files from the orphanage. Where is she now?" He leans forward & asks again.
"How am I supposed to know? Ask your beloved boss." I snicker bitterly.
"My boss? You mean Kang sajangnim? What is his relationship with your sister?" He frowns, looking genuinely confused.
"Back then at the church, you asked me what my true motive was. Well, let me tell you then."

Flashback, Taehyung POV
It happened about two years ago. She came to my tattoo shop & asked to see me.
She looked so beautiful in her white summer dress, her silky long black hair hanging to her waist.
I thought that she was just another regular customer, but apparently she wasn't.
"You are Kim Taehyung, right?"
"I am. Do you want to get a tattoo? Or do you want to have a consultation first?" I flashed her my most attractive smile.
"No, I'm here to talk to you."
"Talk to me? Ahh, I see. You are one of those girls. Sorry, I'm not interested in being anybody's boyfriend now." I shrugged & turned away from her.
Her light melodious chuckle made me turn back around immediately.
"Why are you laughing?" I tilted my head quizzically.
"It's true what they say. You are so full of yourself."
"What?" I scoffed, not believing that she just insulted me straight to my face.
"Ok, enough joking around. My name is Kim Taehee." She offered me her slender hand.
"Kim Taehee? Hey, our names only differ by one letter. Are you secretly my sister or something?" I jokingly asked.
"Well, I'm precisely that. Nice to meet you Taehyung ah. I'm your long-lost twin sister." She grinned widely as my jaw dropped.

I didn't believe her. I thought it was just her sick method to gain my attention. However, she knew too much about my childhood & somehow she gave me a sense of warmth. Like family. Not that I knew anything since I'd never had any family before.
We spent hours talking that day. She told me that she was adopted by a regular salary man & a housewife who couldn't conceive. At first, she hadn't known that she was adopted. They never told her. Plus, they treated her so well that she'd never thought that she wasn't their biological daughter.
Until one day, she accidentally found her adoption paper in her father's office when she was cleaning the room.
She wanted to ask them about who she was, who her real parents were, but she didn't dare. Her adoptive mother was diagnosed with cancer at that time so she didn't want to add to her burden.
The only thing she knew was that she was adopted from Cheonsa Orphanage. So she went to the orphanage & asked the head nurse about her origin. That was when she found out that she had a twin brother who grew up in the orphanage. Me.
She tracked me down without her adoptive parents' knowing & found me. Nevertheless, it took her some time since then to finally meet me in person.
"I thought you knew about my existence." She said.
"I never bothered to ask & the head nurse didn't tell me when I left. Do your parents know that you're seeing me?" I asked.
"No." She shook her head.
"You haven't told them that you knew you were adopted? Why?"
"I couldn't. They loved me so much like I was their own. It would break their heart if they knew that I knew. Besides, both of them have passed away now." She smiled sadly.
"What?! How? I mean, your mother had cancer so I understand. But your father?" I gasped in surprise.
"He couldn't bear losing my mother, so he tried to numb the pain with alcohol. In the end, that was what killed him. He got into a car accident due to drunk driving."
Even though we had just met, I could feel her pain & my heart broke for her.
"I'm sorry." I squeezed her hand & said.
"That's alright. At least, I still have you." She smiled again.
"Well, I guess I have a sister now." I grinned at her & we both laughed, feeling relieved that we were not alone in this cruel world.
She was like an angel to my devil. She was so pure & kind, while I was reckless & rebellious. We were the exact opposites of each other, but I cherished her with all my heart because she's my one & only family.
After a few months of spending time with her, I began to notice some oddities. She could only see me on certain days at certain hours. If we unintentionally went beyond the allotted time, she would panic & leave in a hurry.
Like that day when she took me to a secret beach not far away from town. The weather & scenery were too beautiful that we lost track of time. When she realized that, she jumped in fright & asked me to bring her back to town as fast as I could.
Another peculiarity was that she told me so little about her life, like where she lived, where she worked & so on, even though I'd told her everything about myself. I had asked her multiple times but she always dodged my questions, which made me wonder..
What was she actually hiding? What was she afraid of?
I tried to respect her privacy & didn't pry. She would tell me when she was ready, so I thought.
However, everything changed one evening when she came to see me at the shop with a split lip & a bruised cheek.
"Omg, Taehee ya! What happened?!" I immediately dropped everything & rushed to observe her swollen face.
"T-Tae, c-can we talk?" She stuttered as she wrapped her arms around herself.
"Yes, of course!" I flipped over the 'Open' sign on the entrance & guided her to my office.
"Sit. Please don't mind the mess." I locked the door behind me & cleared up a chair for her to sit on.
"Thanks." She muttered.
"What happened to your face? Who is the bastard that did this to you? I'm going to beat his ass." I clenched my fists in rage.
She shook her head vigorously & then cried into her palms.
"What should I do now, Tae? What should I do?" Her shoulders heaved with every sob.
"Shhh.. Calm down. Don't worry, what ever happens, I'll always be with you." I pulled her into my embrace & gently stroked her hair.
We stayed like that for a few minutes until she stopped crying.
"Can you tell me what happened now?" I asked as I wiped away the tracks of tears on her face.
"I don't know where to start." She hesitated.
"Start from the beginning."
"Huh.. Ok.." She sighed heavily & started talking.

Taehee POV
I was actually in a relationship with a man who I met at my new workplace. He was successful, charming, & handsome. Every girl in the company swooned over him, but not me. Not because I wasn't attracted to him, but because I understood that he was way out of my league.
However, one day at a charity event, I was assigned to be his assistant because his secretary was on leave. I was so nervous that I fell on all fours right in front of him when I was going to give him his speech manuscript.
"Are you alright?" He offered me his hand, which I took.
"Y-Yes. I-I'm sorry, I'm usually not this clumsy." I quickly got up & bowed at him.
"It's ok. Take a deep breath, everything will be alright Kim Taehee ssi." He smiled at me.
Our eyes met right at that moment & my heart started beating rapidly.
What are you doing? Stop thinking nonsense. I scolded myself inwardly.
"Kim Taehee ssi? My manuscript?" His question snapped me out of my daze.
"A-Ah yes. My apology." I hastily hand him the paper.
"Thank you. The day is still long, don't fall down again. I'd hate to see you get hurt." He lightly tapped my shoulder before stepping towards the stage.
That night, his smile was the only thing I could think about. I tried to decipher his smile & kind gesture in every which way possible only to come to a conclusion that I was thinking too much.
He was probably just being nice. I'm sure he will do the same thing towards the others too.
So it came as a surprise to me when he called me to his office the next day for no reason. We started talking about random topics. I was nervous at first, but he made me feel at ease. At the end of our meeting, he asked me if it would be fine to call me outside of work. His request shocked me. I'd never thought that he would be interested in someone like me. I contemplated about it for a moment, but eventually nodded.
"In that case, please sign this." He slid a piece of paper across the table.
It was a confidentiality agreement, which basically stated that I couldn't tell anyone about our conversation & relationship.
"It's just for precaution, in case I accidentally tell you some confidential company information." He said.
It sounded reasonable, so I didn't think much of it & signed the document.
Ever since that day, we talked to each other extensively every day. He was surprisingly very easy to talk to, in addition to being sweet & attentive.
When my parents passed away, he was there to support me, making sure that I didn't feel lonely. I was deeply touched by his kindness & gradually fell for him. Thus, when he asked me to start a relationship with him, I readily agreed, despite knowing that I wouldn't be able to tell anyone about him.
I'd always thought that accepting him was the best decision I'd ever made in my life, although jealousy stung whenever I saw women openly flirting with him in public while I could do nothing but watch from afar. He was the best partner I could ever ask for, showering me with gifts, taking care of me when I was sick, and so many more.
However, my happiness only lasted for a few months. He began to be overly protective & controlling, giving me schedules that I had to absolutely stick to, telling me to dress a certain way, forbidding me to meet my friends. I felt suffocated, but I loved him too much to leave him so I endured it.

Taehyung POV
"Until today.." She sniffed & bit her lip.
"What happened? Tell me." I encouraged her, even though I didn't really want to hear how that bastard hurt my sister.
"I told him- I told him that I'm pregnant." She broke into tears again.
"You're what?! Are you sure about that? Have you seen a doctor?" My eyes widened in shock.
"I have & the doctor told me that I'm about 2 months pregnant. I was so scared when I found out because he told me so many times to be careful. He even gave me birth control pills. But I must have missed taking them for a few days, so I accidentally got pregnant. He was furious when I broke the news. He accused me of getting pregnant on purpose so that he would marry me & then he told me to get rid of the baby. I was so shocked & hurt by his heartlessness so I tried to leave, but he grabbed my hair & slapped me while yelling at me, calling me an ungrateful bitch." She sobbed even harder.
"What the fuck?! I'm going to kill that bastard now. What's his name? Where is he now?" I abruptly stood up, rage exploding inside me.
"No, I'm not going to tell you that. Sit down. Please." She begged.
"Why? He hit you! A pregnant lady! What kind of man does that?! He needs to be taught a lesson. Tell me, what's his name?" I insisted.
"No Tae. I told you all this not because I want you to avenge me. I simply need someone to listen to me. I can & I will deal with him on my own. Besides, telling you who he is will cause me to break the confidentiality agreement & get me in trouble. So please, sit down." She tugged my wrist.
"So what are you going to do now?" I repressed my anger & sat down.
"I don't want to abort the baby. It's innocent. So, I'll probably break up with him & raise the baby on my own." Her lips curved slightly into a sad smile.
Most women I knew would crumble under such pressure. Thus, seeing her acting so strong despite the heavy burden she was facing made me admire her even more. She might seem fragile, but her heart & mind were as sturdy as an oak tree.
"Don't worry, I'll help you take care of the baby. I'll be with you every step of the way." I pulled her into a hug & said, hoping that my words could ever so slightly soothe her pain.
"Thank you Tae. I'm glad that I have you." She muttered as she wrapped her arms around my waist.
We talked for one more hour, mainly discussing about the baby. What she would name the baby if it was a girl or a boy, how she would raise him/her, what her main concerns were, & so on.
"What if the kids pick on my child knowing that s/he doesn't have a father?" She frowned.
"I will kick their asses." I jokingly punched my fist onto my other palm.
"Ya, you can't do that!" She shoved my shoulder & exclaimed.
"Hahaha! I'm joking. But seriously tho, nobody messes with my niece/nephew. I will protect him/her with all my might." I smiled at her, bursting with love already for the unborn child.
"I'm sure you'll be a great uncle. Just don't spoil him/her too much."
"Oh, I will buy everything s/he wants, chocolate, candy, ice cream, toys.. I'm gonna be the greatest uncle ever."
"Ok, I'm not gonna let you spend time with my child. You're too dangerous."
"Hahaha! Sorry but you can't stop me," I laughed, "Anw, it's getting late. Let me take you home."
"It's ok. I can go home on my own." She refused.
"Ya, it's almost midnight. How can I let a pregnant lady go home alone at this hour? Come on, I'll give you a ride." I picked up my jacket & wore it.
"But-" She began to object again, but I cut her off.
"I'm not taking no for an answer this time." I grabbed the spare helmet from the cupboard & put it on her head.
Her apartment was only fifteen minutes away from my shop & it was located in quite a luxurious neighborhood.
"Wow, your apartment is really nice." I commented as I took off my helmet.
"Thanks. But I think I need to move out soon." She muttered, looking uncomfortable.
"Why?"
"Because he is the one paying for this."
"Ok, I take back my words. It doesn't look that nice. If you ever need a place to stay before you find your own pad, you can crash at my apartment. It's modest but I think it can fit the two of us."
"What about your girlfriends then? I don't want to listen to you guys humping all night." She scrunched her nose.
"Well, I can always go to their places." I winked.
"Ughh.. You playboy. Those poor girls.. I wonder what do they see in you?" She scanned me up & down teasingly.
"My handsome face & of course.. my awesome skills." I raised my brows & nudged her arm.
"Iewww, disgusting! Baby please don't listen to your uncle. He's crazy." She placed both palms over her stomach & talked to it.
"Hahaha! Sorry kiddo, I forgot that you were listening." I stooped down & lightly poked her stomach with my forefinger.
"Thank you Tae. I can't imagine how I would cope with this if I didn't have you." She smiled at me, but there was still a hint of sadness clouding her eyes.
"Hey, don't mention it. That's what family is for, right?" I ruffled her hair.
"Anw, do you mind going up with me for a while? I- I'm kinda scared to go back there." She looked down & anxiously twisted the hem of her shirt.
"Of course I don't mind. Is he still in there?" I glanced up the building & clenched my fists, ready to fight.
"I don't think so, but- yeah.. Come on, follow me."
We rode the elevator up to the 15th floor & walked to her apartment at the end of the hallway. The interior of the building was even more grandiose than the exterior.
That guy must be really rich. I wonder who is he?
I averted my gaze on purpose when she punched the passcode onto the fancy keypad.
"It's our birthday." She said all of a sudden.
"Sorry?"
"The passcode. 951230. Btw, please don't be shocked about the mess." She warned before pushing the door open.
Despite her warning, I couldn't help but gasp when I stepped into the apartment. Pieces of shattered glasses & vases covered the floor, stems of pink roses lied in a pool of water right by the toppled wooden coffee table, decorative pillows were scattered haphazardly.
"Did he do this?" I asked.
"He can be a little violent when he's angry." She replied as she tiptoed into the kitchen, avoiding the sharp broken glasses.
"Only a little? Ok, you really have to leave him. That guys has some unfixable issues." I said as I follow her from behind.
"I know. I will talk to him tomorrow." She heaved a deep sigh & grabbed a broom.
I can't just sit & do nothing while she faces that bastard alone.
"Wait. Give me your phone." An idea suddenly popped into my head.
"Why?"
"Just give it to me. I won't look at your messages, I promise."
"O-Ok then." She hesitantly fished it out of her pocket, unlocked it, & handed it to me.
I clicked on the 'Find my' app & connected her phone with mine.
"Here you go." I gave the phone back to her.
"What did you do?" She scrolled through her phone, trying to figure out what I'd done.
"Nothing. Just setting up a safety net. Let's clean the house now." I snatched the broom from her hand & stepped to the living room.
I helped her clean the apartment & put everything back in its place. Although it was indeed a beautiful apartment filled with the most expensive things, it felt cold & unwelcoming. Taehee certainly didn't have a say in decorating the space because there was no trace of her personality. It was more like a luxurious prison than a home.
"Taehee ah, I'm done sweeping the floor. Do you-" I stopped mid sentence when I saw that she had fallen asleep on the sofa.
She must be drained.
I carefully lifted her up & carried her to the bedroom. Gently, I laid her on the bed & put a blanket over her.
I scanned around the room, trying to find any evidence about her lover's identity, but there was nothing. Not even a single picture.
Who the hell is he? Why is he so mysterious? Wait.. Is it possible that he is married? Is Taehee his mistress? No, that can't be. She won't do that. Or will she?
I glanced at her one last time, myriads of thoughts running through my mind. In the end, I could only sigh & quietly turn off the light.
"Sleep tight, Taehee ya. We'll go through this together." I said before closing the door behind me.

"Why isn't she replying my text? Is she still with him?" I couldn't help but worry.
"Boss, your next appointment is here." My new partner, Yongsan, called out.
"Ah yes, please let her in." I locked my phone & prepared my tools.
After a few back-to-back appointments, I finally had time to check my phone. I expected to see Taehee's reply, but she hadn't even read my texts.

My heart began to hammer inside my chest as worry consumed me.
Where is she? Has something bad happened to her?
Feeling hopeless, I quickly opened the 'Find my' app & waited anxiously why the app tracked her location.
Once the app had found where she was located, I enlarged the map & tilted my head in confusion.
"Isn't this near the secret beach we went to last time? What is she doing there at this hour?"
I grabbed my jacket & hastily ran out.
"Boss, where are you going?" Yongsan asked.
"I need to go somewhere. Please close the shop when you're done. Thanks!"
The scenery along the road melted into a blur as I sped my motorcycle up towards the beach.
God, please let her be okay. Please be okay. Please be okay. I repeated the prayer over & over again.
Even though I didn't usually pray, I hoped that God or whoever it was up there would hear me.
The sky had turned from a shade of purplish orange to absolute darkness when I reached the point indicated on the map. I hurriedly took off my helmet & ran to the path leading to the secret beach.
The tide was rising so some parts of the path was under water.
"Taehee! Kim Taehee! Are you here? Taehee ya!" I screamed against the roaring waves.
I turned on the flashlight in my phone & directed it towards the half-drowned shore. Then, I saw her & the hairs on the back of my neck instantly stood up in fright.
"Kim Taehee!"
She was lying unconsciously on the sand, the tides lapping at her feet. Her bag, which must have contained her phone, was right by her side.
I rushed towards her body, ignoring the sea water splashing violently with my every step, soaking me from the waist down.
"Taehee ya, wake up. Taehee ya, please open your eyes." I cradled her head on my lap & gently patted her cheek, but she didn't budge.
Her lips & complexion were so pale, like all the blood in her body had been drained.
Is she- Is she dead?
I lowered my face to listen to her breathing, but I could hear nothing but the sound of waves crashing onto the shore.
"Taehee ya, please wake up!" I hugged her limp body & cried, tears involuntarily rolled down my face as terror & sorrow consumed me.
"T-Tae.." Suddenly, I heard her faint whisper.
"Omg, you're alive! I thought- I thought- Anw, let's go to the hospital now." I exclaimed in relief & hastily lifted her up. As I did that, a surge of warm liquid seeped from underneath her skirt to my hand.
Sea water? But this smell..
I hoisted one leg to support her bottom & brought my left hand closer to my face.
Blood.
"He.. He killed my baby.." She murmured in between heavy breaths.
"No no no. I'm sure the baby is ok. Let's get you to the hospital now." I pretended to be calm even though I was so terrified that I felt like throwing up.
"No.. You don't understand.. He.. He aborted my baby.. My baby is.. gone." She sobbed before passing out again.
"Taehee! Taehee ya! Shit!" I quickly carried her & waddled through the water which had risen up to my waist at the moment.
Once we got to my motorcycle, I sat her down onto the back seat, wrapped her arms around my waist, & tied her hands tightly together with my jacket.
"Hang on just a little bit more Taehee ya. We'll get to the hospital soon."
I had never rode so fast in my life before. I ran all the red lights, disregarding all the loud honks & curses directed at me, until we reached the hospital's emergency room.
"Taehee ya, we're here. Everything will be ok now." I untied her hands & they instantly fell limply on my thigh.
I turned around & found her looking much paler than before, if that was even possible.
Panicked, I frantically carried her towards the entrance, bumping & toppling a standing banner on my way.
"Please help my sister. She's bleeding severely." I urgently said to one of the nurses.
"What's her name? What happened to her?" A few doctors & nurses rushed to our side & helped me laid her down onto a stretcher. Then, they immediately rolled her deeper into the room & disappeared behind a curtain.
"Her name is Kim Taehee. She was passed out when I found her so I'm not sure what happened exactly, but.. she told me that someone aborted her baby when she woke up for a few minutes." I hesitantly told the nurse.
"I see, we'll check on her right away. What about you, Sir? Are you alright? Is the blood on your shirt yours or hers?" She asked.
I looked down & was shocked to find that the whole front of my shirt was drenched in blood. Taehee's blood.
"I-I'm fine. I-It's not mine." I stammered, realizing how critical her condition was.
"If that's the case, please wait here for a moment. I'll go get the papers that you need to fill out." The nurse said before leaving me standing there alone.
She must have told me the truth. That bastard forced her to abort the baby & abandoned her at the beach to die. I'm gonna kill that guy.
Without waiting for the nurse to come back, I exited the building & got on my bike. My destination was her apartment.
"Excuse me, Sir. You are not allowed to-" The security tried to stop me when I entered the apartment lobby, but I pushed him away & ran towards the elevator.
Fortunately, one opened right away as if on cue & I swiftly stepped in.
Taehee's apartment looked exactly the same as I left it. Nothing had changed.
I went to her bedroom right away & opened all the drawers & cupboards, rummaging through them, desperate to find any clue about the identity of her lover.
Fifteen minutes later, I'd basically trashed her room but found nothing.
"Fuck! Fuckkk!!" I screamed in frustration & kicked the bed hard.
Right then, I realized something. I hadn't checked under the bed. Thus, I stooped down & turned on the flashlight in my phone.
"Yes!" I pumped my fist victoriously when I saw a medium-sized cardboard box near one leg of the bed frame.
I quickly took it out & opened the box. A stack of paper, which appeared to be the confidential agreement Taehee talked about, occupied one half of the box. I skimmed through the pages & figured out the bastard's name.
Kang Jihwan, President Director of Kang corporation. What the fuck?! How old is he? Is he married? Does he have a family?
Then, I scoured the other half of the box. A small digital camera lied at the bottom. I turned it on & examined the first photo in the album.
The middle-aged man, who must have been Kang Jihwan, was wrapping his arm around Taehee's shoulders & smiling happily in the selfie. However, Taehee's smile seemed strained & forced. They appeared to be somewhere near the beach, but as I squinted my eyes & observed the picture carefully, I noticed something.
Isn't this the secret beach?
I scrolled through the other photos & my suspicion was confirmed.
So my guess was right. He knew about that place & dumped my sister there so that no one would find her.
"Fuck you Kang Jihwan, I'm going to kill you soon." I hissed, an overwhelming hatred imbuing my entire being, as I stared at his smug face.
Wait. Where have I seen him before? I raked my brain & then it hit me.
"Shit!" I took the camera with me & sprinted out of the apartment.
I got on my motorcycle & rode it back to the hospital.
The standing banner I toppled earlier had been straightened & returned to its original spot. A picture of two men shaking hands filled most of the banner.
"Thank you President Kang of Kang corporation for your continuous support towards our hospital." I read the sentence at the bottom of the banner.
I took out Taehee's camera & opened the photo album. The same man as the one on the banner stared smilingly back at me.
"Oh God." I gasped & hurriedly ran into the emergency room.
"Excuse me! Excuse me! I'm looking for my sister, Kim Taehee? I brought her here about an hour ago." I frantically approached the on-duty nurse & asked.
"Wait a minute. Let me check it for you." She scanned the list on her board.
After what felt like forever, she lifted her eyes & knitted her brows in confusion.
"Sir, there's no patient named Kim Taehee. Are you sure you brought her to this hospital?" She asked.
"What?! I'm absolutely sure! I was just here an hour ago. They said that they were going to check on her right away!" I yelled, my pulse increasing to an alarming rate.
"Please stop shouting, Sir. If she's here, I'm sure we'll find her. Do you remember which nurse or doctor you talked to earlier?"
"I don't know her name. Wait.." I stretched my neck trying to find a familiar face.
"There! There she is! She was the one who helped me earlier." A slight relief washed over me.
"Oh Nurse Yang. Nurse Yang! This person said that he brought his sister here an hour ago & you were the one who helped him. His sister name is Kim Taehee, but I can't find her name on our list. Do you know where she is now?"
Nurse Yang stepped closer to us & I was hoping that she would tell me that this was all a misunderstanding, that Taehee was recovering in another room.
However, she stared at me blankly, not an ounce of recognition in her eyes.
"I'm sorry, but I've never seen you before & Nurse Oh was right. There's no patient named Kim Taehee in here."
Right then, I knew that he, Kang Jihwan, had taken her away.
