❦ Chapter 19 - New Friends
*Jake*
"Hey, Jinxx, how did you leave Melody at school?" Jake asked as he strummed the guitar.
"A bit nervous, but she warmed up to it alright," I said. "She's been home schooled most of her life at the foster home, so it's a big change for her."
"I can imagine," CC said. "She's experienced a lot of change lately, hopefully its not too overwhelming for her."
"Well, at least its not a co-ed school, won't have to worry about any guys trying to win her heart," Ashley joked, making CC snicker as Jinxx glared, but then realized they were right and smiled.
"That's true," he said as he tuned his guitar, turning the tuning machine.
"Wait, isn't the music program she in associated with a nearby boys school?" Andy suddenly said.
The moment Andy said that Jinxx went still, eyes wide in shock, and since his hand was still ona tuning machine, a string on his guitar suddenly snapped and almost swiped at CC, who dodged in time.
"Now you've done it," I chuckled as Andy gave a 'yikes' look at what he just realized he's most likely started.
*Melody*
"Here it is, the music room," Tahlia said as we walked in.
So far my classes have been pretty cool, and my teachers are actually nice, though a few are tough graders.
Tahlia is also really nice and we have a lot in common. We have four classes together.
Now it was lunch break and Tahlia told me how its a lot more peaceful eating in the music room than the cafeteria. Its also our next class so no worries in being late.
"Here, I'll introduce you to some friends," she said as we walked over to a certain area and stopped when I spotted something I didn't expect to see here.
Male students....
"Tahlia.... I thought this was an all girl school," I frowned as she turned. "How are there boys here?"
"Hmm? Oh! Yeah, the music and dance programs here team up with St. Ferdinand's next door. Some of the guys here are dancers and musicians from the program there and they sometimes get a free class to come here and rehearse when there's a show or even coming up," Thalia explained.
"St. Ferdinand.... Is that co-ed?" I asked curiously.
"Nope. Its an all-boys school," she said.
"How odd," I said, and she laughed.
"Don't worry though, we don't always have to work together with the boys. Miss Fleur will explain everything when she gets here," Thalia said and motioned me over. "Come on, you can meet my team."
I smiled and walked over to see some girls were at a corner laughing along and eating, then looked over.
"Hey guys! Meet the new girl, Melody," Tahlia introduced. "Melody, this is Estella and Isabella, or Stella and Bella, who are twins, Holly, and Aylin."
"Hey!" they all greeted cheerfully at me.

"Nice to meet you all," I said.
"Come on and sit," Aylin said as both me and Tahlia sat down.
From there we began to talk and get to know each other. They all seem so nice and very talented.
Estella and Isabella were born New York to Puerto Rican parents, and they moved here after her dad was given a good job opportunity. They got accepted into the music program for the harp and cello, but are amazing at mixing music. They would definitely be an amazing DJ duo one day.
Holly is a dancer from Colorado who applied and was accepted to this school to join the dance program, and is also in the school's archery team.
Aylin is of a Turkish-American family who moved here for better work opportunities, and is here for the science program, but befriended the twins so she spends time with them and the others and always attends the shows. She's a sophomore.
Soon class was starting and we threw out our trash. Aylin had biology so she said goodbye and left. Holly also left since she had this class for next period and now had algebra.
I sat with Tahlia and the twins when soon, four boys walked over and greeted us. They all wore different uniform.
"Hey girls," One with black hair said.
"Hey Rupert," Tahlia greeted as the other guys sat down.
(Picture: Rupert Lewis)
"Guys, meet Melody Ferguson. She just started today."
"Hello," I greeted shyly.
"Hey, welcome," A Hispanic looking boy said.
"Melody, meet Rupert Lewis, Julio Velasquez, Elias Fletcher, and.... Evan McCoy," she said, the last name with a tone of irritation.

"Love ya, too, T," the other smirked mischievously with a wink.
"Ugh," Tahlia scoffed with a roll of her eyes as the boys got settled and soon the teacher walked in.
"Hello everyone," She greeted contently.
"Hello, Miss Fleur," The class said in unison.
"Now, allow me to introduce our new student. Dear, if you can?" The teacher asked me.
I took a stand and waved shyly at the class. "Hello. My name is Melody Ferguson, and I'm starting first year here," I said.
"Its very nice to meet you Melody. And do you have a talent for the program?" Miss Fleur asked curiously.
"Well, like my father... I play violin," I said.
"How lovely," Miss Fleur complimented. "Would you like to show us a song?"
I looked at my new friends, who encouraged me and nodded.
I took a deep breath and nodded. "Yes, miss."
I took my new violin, opening the case and taking it out along with my bow and violin and walked tot eh front of the class near Miss Fleur.
"Now, anything you have in mind to play?" She asked.
"Hmmm.... I just finished learning Bach, if that's alright," I said with a slight shrug.
"Excellent. Now," she said as the class watched. "Begin."
I took a deep breath and nodded as I gently placed my violin on my shoulder and began.
(Video: Johann Sebastian Bach - Partita No. 2, BWV 1004 | Hilary Hahn)
(Note: Just focus on like, the first 5 minutes if you want, give or take.)
I played for about a good five minutes, maybe a little more, before deciding to stop so I wouldn't spend the rest of class playing a very long song.
Once I stopped, the whole class applauded and praised me.
"Melody, that was wonderful! And you said you had just learned this song?" Miss Fleur asked, looking almost speechless.
"Yes, miss. Just the other day my father taught me how to play it," I said.
"My, and that's supposedly a intermediately advanced piece for some. Either he's an amazing teacher or you're a far more gifted prodigy than any other I've met," she said. "Well done!"
I nodded and curtsied a little with a smiled. "Thank you."
I then walked back to where the others sat and they greeted me excitedly.
"Mel, that was amazing!" Tahlia said as I put my violin and bow back in its case.
"You think?" I asked.
"Absolutely," Bella said.
"You're a natural!" Stella added.
"Definitely! You were awesome," Julio complimented.
"Who's your father, by the way?" Rupert asked.
"He's Jeremy Ferguson, or Jinxx, from the band Black Veil Brides," I said.
"No way," Elias said.
"Yep. It surprised me, too," I said. "But he's the rhythm guitarist and violinist of the band. As well as pianist and occasional cellist."
"That's awesome," Julio said.
"So a rock star baby," Evan said as he sat next to me... awfully close.... With a weird smirk. "I like that."
I furrowed my brows and backed away a little. "Umm, thank you?"
"Evan, man, leave her alone," Rupert said.
"What?" he shrugged before leaning in closer to me. "Just getting to know her more."
What's with him? He's so weird.
"Qué idiota," Stella and Bella said in unison as they shook their heads, rolling their eyes. (What an idiot).
"Melody, a word, please?" Miss Fleur called to me.
"Be right back," I said, standing up and quickly, letting Evan fall over since he was leaned in a bit too close and having to others laugh at him as I walked over to the teacher.
"Now, since you are new and its the middle of the semester, I will like to keep you informed about what we do for the program. We go from regular school performances to competitions that can sometimes even go out of state. This year we're having a huge show to raise for a class trip to Orlando, so we can see the theme parks. That's for the end of the year," She said.
"Wow, I've never been there," I said.
"Well, now you have a chance to join us," she smiled. "Now, after that amazing performance, I find it fit to give you some performances, at the most, two or three, and its going to be exciting," she said, getting some papers from her desk. "Because students can pair up or have a solo, and pick their own songs to perform and/or cover."
"How interesting," I said.
"Now, here is all the information. The show is next month, so that's more than enough time to pick any songs, maximum five, and rehearse them. Of course we begin rehearsal 2 weeks before the big show, everyday afterschool until 5 pm, and then on Saturday mornings."
"Okay," I nodded as I looked at the fliers.
"I cannot wait to see what you have in mind," she said.
"I'll do my best," I nodded enthusiastically.

It was soon after school, and Tahlia and I were waiting for our parents to pick us up.
The boys returned to their school once music class ended.
"So, enjoyed your first day at Athena Heights?" she asked as we ate some snack bars out front.
"Very much. And I'm excited about that show we have next month," I said.
"Its gonna be great. Stella and Bella are gonna be DJs throughout. Its gonna be like some MTV awards show or something," She said. "Only without the craziness and awards. Just music and dance."
"Are the guys from Saint Ferdinand also performing?" I asked curiously.
"Yep. Rupert is good at guitar and singing, and Julio is performing with some other latin kids for some spanish songs and dances. They always steal the show," she said. "No complaints, though, those Hispanic girls here can definitely dance better than I ever can. Elias plays drums and Evan dances hip hop and freestyle and pretty well to be honest. That's probably the only reason we keep him."
"What do you dance?" I asked curiously.
"A few dances really. I mostly dance either ballet or hip hop, but its mostly all freestyle," she said. "What about you?"
"Well, I suppose freestyling as well, but I'm being taught ballet by my father's girlfriend. She's performed in Europe and Bradway before meeting my father," I shrugged.
"Sweet!" She said, amazed. "Me, Evan and a few other kids are doing a hip hop number for the show."
"Evan's very strange," I said, remembering his odd behavior earlier. Still wondering what that was all about.
"Strange doesn't even begin to cover it," she said with a roll of her eyes. "Sorry he was invading your personal space like that, by the way. He can be such a massive flirt."
"Flirt?" I asked, confused. "What is that?"
She looked at me weird. "Seriously?"
We're interrupted by a horn honking and turn to see a Nissan parked at the gates.
"That's my dad. Here," she said, quickly taking a pen from her front pocket and writing something on my hand. "Text me when you get home."
I looked and saw it was her number. "Alright," I smiled. "Nice meeting you today, Tahlia."
"You too," she said and just as she turned my father's car also pulled up a bit behind Tahlia's.
I smiled and got up, gathering my things as I walked over to his car, climbing in as I waved at Tahlia as she climbed into her car, which drove off.
"Hey, Mel, how was school?" He asked.
"Great! I made a lot of new friends!" She smiled. "Tahlia included. She's really nice."
"That's awesome," he smiled, then looked at my hand and froze, looking as if he saw a ghost.
"Dad?" I frowned, looking to see it was the hand with Tahlia's number. "What's wrong?"
"Who's number is that?" He asked, as if trying to stay calm.
"Tahlia's," she said. "Her dad picked her up, and she wrote it on my hand since she had to leave."
He sighed with relief. "Oh, okay..... That's good," he said.
I looked at him weird as he smiled to himself.
Weird..... I wonder why he got so scared over a number on my hand.
*Jinxx*
Thank. Fucking. God.
I was so scared some guy pulled the cheesy "Call me sometime' skit on Melody and wrote their number on her hand.
Thankfully it was just her friend.
Still going to freak when she falls for some guy, though!!

I was gonna just go "fuck it" and put Overture for Melody's little violin show in this chapter, but thought it would have been too overplayed, so I picked a song by Bach, played by another violinist named Hilary Hahn, kind of representing Melody playing.
Before anyone asks, no I won't be making the character, Evan, a bad guy in this story. He's more of a comic relief for the story. Trust me, you'll eventually see why I added him. 😉
Also, I want to know what you guys think: Do you guys wantto see the first chapter of Ashley Purdy's Concert Of Hope story so you guys kind of get an idea of what to expect, or wait a while? Comment here! 🏵
