Chapter 7: Envy Uprising

The days that followed were cold. I never understood what went wrong. They became my OTP but it miserably suck. And now the only thing I can do is be there for him. Because now more than ever he blames them for all the evil in this world.

Melody Medina

It was Friday and I was ready for the week to be over. But I had to tell Ash what I thought about that girl. She just seems very suspicious and odd.

"There is something weird about her. I don't know what exactly, but she just acts so strange. I know she moved here from somewhere else, but still. When we first met Kaisa, she acted normal. But her, she does it in a way that is just so-" Suddenly Ash out his hand up.

"Hold up, you are saying Kaisa was normal when we first met her?" He raised his eyebrows, "She was not normal. She was facing something terrible and only is now learning to hopefully move on."

"True, but anyways that girl then thinks she can be all buddy-buddy with Seivon? What if she tricks him and hurts him." I turned to Ashton and there was a surprised expression on his face until he burst into fits of chuckles. I stared at him. "What?"

"You. Are. Jealous." He flicked my nose.

"Huh?" Me, jealous? No way. I shook her head.

"I kinda suspected you might've liked him and the other day, I tried to help him see it. He is just oblivious. You always hate it when he gives his attention to anyone else, but you don't care when I do it. And whenever he talks about that girl who apparently saved him, your face is beet red. Then you end up yelling at him. But whenever he talks to other girls besides you and Kaisa, you hate it the most."
He's right, but I can't believe it that he knew all this time and didn't tell Seivon. But maybe I could talk to him. I haven't been talking to Kaisa because lately she hangs out with Miracine and it seems that girl has a thing for Seivon.
And yesterday I was gonna see him and I saw him helping her with something. Seivon was even over Miracine's shoulder. Are they together now?

"Don't-" I started to say, but Ash shook his head.

"I am not gonna say anything. That is just plain mean." He shrugged with a bad of popcorn, "But if you don't say anything anytime soon I will tell him, unless you have moved on."

"He doesn't even like me." I resort back. "He likes that girl who saved him more than anyone. And after her is probably Miracine. He did mention that she looks like that girl who saved him," I frowned. This is so annoying.

"But did you hear him, he said he hated everyone being like that to him." Ash pointed out, but I was still feeling down, "But it makes you wonder, why now more than ever? Did something happened to him."

"Ashton why?!" I exclaimed, "How is it all these years I've been here waiting for him and a single glance at her, and he's fallen for the nameless girl who saved him from the sea? Before he even met her, before she saved him, I liked him. But I always have to hide it. Maybe if he just got with someone, then it will make it all better and I will know these feelings are useless."

"So you want me to try to get him with Miracine?" He grinned. Oh he did that on purpose.

"WHAT?! No!" I I jumped up, "Are they together?" I asked carefully "They do spend a lot of time with each other..." I trailed off.

"You'll be jealous either way. And to answer your question, the only girl he sees like that is that one who saved him." He mutters in a sing-song way, "Lately I wonder if he has secretly been meeting her, I am his best friend and I can just tell certain things. Best friend instinct." He nodded his head proudly.

"Oh but yesterday I thought-" All of the sudden Miracine and Kaisa comes over stopping my sentence. I noticed Miracine looked a little down but as soon as she saw us she lightened up.
Did Seivon reject her? I hope he did, then I will have more of a chance.

"What's up my friendies!" Kaisa waves over, "So what are we talking about?"

"I was just telling Melody here about this hot babe!" He shouted excitedly. "It was as if I was drowning in love"

"Pff... What an idiot," Kaisa smiled. Kaisa smiled at him, I glanced over. A ship, a ship! I see a ship sailing in the future! I secretly ship them, but who doesn't.

"How do you deal with people you can't stand?" Miracine mumbles quietly, but I heard her. Did she not like Seivon? That's even better.

"I ask myself how am I dealing with Ashton everyday. You just do it." I laughed. Why is it sometimes I can hate her and other times I act friendly as ever?

"Hey!" Ash exclaimed, "That was not very nice," He pouted like a dramatic child.

~M~i~r~a~c~i~n~e~~S~e~a~t~o~n~

"My brother decided to see me." Miracine stated, "What a joy. I can't stand him. I swear he is gonna start following me around next. He only is around with family and people from our native country," I shrugged.
"And he wants me to spend less time with people that are not the same pure-blood native as I am. I am sorry, I barely know any of you and I am just telling you this." The first time since I met Melody, I saw something in her eyes.
Like an understanding, like she cares, and not a hatred. Like she gets me for once. At first she was just being nice and then once she saw me being with Seivon more, she got extremely envious.

Seivon then walks over, "There you are. Even Miracine is here! And that says something. She never is with us." Ashton frowns missing his best friend. I guess I've been stealing him too much. I laughed silently at that thought.
Will Ashton's words make he realized maybe we are the same? I hope they do.

"Yeah, where you been? It's been lonely without you. Really lonely." Melody stressed the word lonely as if she was trying to give him a hint. If she does tell him what is he gonna do? Will he drop me for her.

"I've been.....around." He muttered trying to avoid answering. What was he suppose to say.

'Yeah, sorry. I've been at the back of the school making out with the mermaid who saved me.'

I don't even know what all they know. They could know a mermaid saved him. They could know its just a girl.

"Around?" Melody raises her eyebrows and let out a small laugh. "Cut the crap! Who are you with?" I looked away as soon as she said that.

"What?" Kaisa now decided to say something. "You're dating someone?"

"I am not with......anyone." He says carefully again.. I mean Seivon wasn't lying. We weren't exactly together yet, but he is not going to be with any other either.
We just talk. Tell about our lives. Kiss. Make out. You know, the usual thing you do with friends.

Oh Snapper!

I just friend-zoned him. Good thing he can't hear my thoughts. Well it isn't like he knows who I am. I wish he'll figure it out already. But if I tell him now, then I'll turn into a sea slug.

Really a shame.

I wish I could tell him. Why does he have to be a human? Things would be so much easier if he wasn't. His brown hair that laid loosely across his face running through his eyes. His beautiful sapphire colored lovely th-

".....but I think I know. The truth is you are with Miracine." My name suddenly appeared in the conversation that was going in one ear and out the other.
I was zoning out. Thinking about Seivon.

"Whaaaat?!" I suddenly jumped up, not paying attention to anything that was being said. All I heard was my name. Maybe it was a bit too loud.

"No, I am not." He simply said before putting his hands behind his head leaning against a tree.
His hair blew in the wind as he closed his sapphire eyes thinking. I could see the silver of my pendant under his vest. Soon his left hand checked on his phone machine.

"I know!" Ashton exclaims, overly excited. "LET'S HAVE A MOVIE NIGHT!" He throws his hands up in the air. He is so weird and dramatic sometimes.

"Can we go to yours?" Melody asked me. I was confused.
Look I am not around here and I thought they get I don't know the terms here in this country like I told them. I'm from the sea, but they don't need to know that.

"My what?" I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.

"Your place for a movie night." Melody explains. I was about to agree when I remember something.

My brother.

"Oh....seahorse." I muttered. "I can't. Remember? My brother? He kick each and every one of you out!" I told them in exclamation.
He would literally flip if they all came. He hates humans with passion. He does so much to them in this world. He would probably just kill Seivon just because he thinks he is 'protecting his sister.' Protecting my sister, my angelfish!

"Oh...." I trailed off, but I swear I heard someone laughed as soon as I said that insult. I guess that is not normal here.
"That's all right. Well, then we'll go to mine." Melody pips in. She was really bipolar on what she thought of me. But I knew it was all jealously. And if I were in her position, I would hate myself too.

~~~
"Mira!" Someone snapped their fingers in front of my face. Oh!
I was day dreaming again. I was about to head to the back of the school, but Seivon hasn't left yet.
"Huh?" All thoughts disappeared.
"So are you coming?" Melody asked, but I was a bit confused on what she was talking about.
"What where?" I heard Melody let out a long sigh.
"To the play. It's right across the street from the school. They are doing Swan Lake. It is absolutely amazing. You have to go." She stated with her eyes gleaming in excitement.
"What is a play?" I muttered as my eyes betrayed me, starring at Seivon again. I need to stop this especially in this form.
"It's like an act that shows a story. You know the fairytales? Well this one is Swan Lake." Kaisa turned to me and I understood.
"Okay, it sounds fun!" I nodded my head, "But first I have to go somewhere." I need to talk to Seivon as a mermaid.
"I'll come with you." Kaisa smiled slyly with Melody who also nodded.
Seriously? I frowned.
I know she was trying to be helpful with Mivozene and Azurine, but still! I wanted to speak with Seivon and be myself.
That shameless shellfish!
"Actually I can go by myself ," I told her, not even attempting to hide any fact I wanted to be alone.
"We'll-" Melody tried to say, but I shook my head.
"I can go by myself." I interrupted them. Why do people do things together when you just need to check on something?
Why is it in any books or movies I see there are always a group of girls in the toilets talking together? I guess it is based off what humans actually do.
"Oh.....Okay."Melody looked down, defeated.
"Actually I have to head that way anyway. You may not want them to join you, but I'm just happen to be going the same way, but can I join you, Miracine?" I stepped back, widening my eyes. I didn't answer him, in fact. I couldn't.
Because I would have gave in. I however, turned away and went ahead without saying anything.
"Wait, I'm not even going where you are going!" He tried to tell me, "Well I don't think. I'm just going to see this teacher who thinks he is correct when I argued about his reasoning. So I am going to have to 'apologize' for being incorrect. But I am not wrong! I am never wrong about something like this." I heard Seivon firmly state, but the only thing I did was smile a bit.
"Everyone is so egoistic. They all have their own foolish pride and they think that them themselves are absolutely right without thinking that the others could be also possibly even be right," I commented slyly.
"So don't you agree I must go-"
"No, he's only following what the textbook says and his own knowledge. But if you haven't written a book on it, then you cannot be knowledgeable in this world."
"Oh how I forgot about that logic. I think it is absolutely stupid and there are some things you just figure out on your own."
"Then how did you figure out on your own?" I ask, even though I knew the answer.
"Someone told me." He states referring to myself, I turned to Ashton and Melody who were trying not to laugh.
"Next time for an assignment that asked us to give our reasoning, I'm going to put someone told me so," Ashton exclaims, laughing at Seivon's reasoning.
Seivon rolled his eyes, "Mel can you hit him for me? It will bring me great pleasure if you do so,"
"Kinky," I heard Kaisa muttered and I widened my eyes. I never expected someone like her to ever say that.
"You know what Kai," Seivon exclaimed, "You've been hanging around Ashton way too much!"
"Only as much as you two, but less since I only knew you for a little more than two years." She just grinned, which was surprising since she is a mermaid.
"In fact, I got it from my servant I suppose I'll call him." Kaisa stated.
"The flamboyant one who had the hots for all of us when he first saw us?" Mel asked and I could only wonder what had happen.
Kaisa laughed, "Yeah, but Miza was just messing around. If he doesn't do that then there is something severely wrong. It's how he says hi, I suppose. Some take it while others..." She trailed off and her expression held a sad memory.
"....Well anyways, you should go Miracine." She said in a sad tone. She didn't explain, but it was clear there were lost feelings there.
"Oh, right!" I nodded, "Was it the stolen gift or human's ambition?" I ask her in code. Was her sadness for humans that stole from us or their greed that came over the years?
Kaisa shook her head, "Who knows," She spoke softly, "Just don't worry about it. It isn't even that."
I nodded and walk over. This will be weird. We both probably will end up going to go to the back of the school, but how will I explain that to him?
Simple: you don't.
"Ummm...S-seivon so what did you argue with the teacher?" His eyebrows shot up at this. I was testing him. Can he think of an excuse in time if someone asks?
"He was discussing his personal theory on why the oceans are different lately. He claimed his nonsense theory is true! He claims oil was dumped into the ocean and fish dying caused the so called stupid ecosystem to decline making the oceans forever changed!" He exclaimed, throwing his arms up. He pulls on his hair and sighed, something I noticed he tend to do when he is upset.
"How stupid is that? I can't stand him. And now I have to apologize for this crap." I didn't know what to say. It was because what I told him.
"Oh," I didn't say much, "Well look you should go to your class." I pointed to the science classroom. "Well I'll be off." I skipped away, before he could even say anything.
No sounds were anywhere within hearing distance. The wind blew silently. The air brushed against my skin. I was at the back of the school. One leg and then the other.
Sometimes I can't believe Seivon doesn't know. I saved him again and then I showed up at school as a new girl that looks quite similar to his mermaid. No, he's my human!
Sure, my hair isn't dry, it's everywhere and my hair is like it is floating. Sure, my extra mermaid jewels and seafoam on my skin that symbolizes my kingdom. But why is it that he doesn't seem to have a clue?
Such a foolish human!
But I like him...
I like him a lot
"I knew you'd be here." I looked up and my heart jumped up for joy. Well not really. But I felt an extra few beats.
"We plan to meet here, Seivon. Every morning. Every evening. Isn't that the plan, no?" He looked surprised even though I said the truth.
"Maybe I should just leave." He crossed his arms, but I could tell he wasn't serious.
"Leave? But I never get to be with you alone. You're always with Melody and Ashton. You are free to spend time with them, their your friends of course, but I want to be with you too. Even though the Melody doesn't like me, I could care less, "His eyebrows to shot up.
"What? Mel doesn't like you? You've met?!" I put a single finger on his lips.
"I thought you already figured out I go to this school too. I think you might know who I am, but I'm not sure. But I think she's jealous," I laughed.
"Jealous?" He looked surprised, "What for? Mel doesn't need to be jealous for anything. I'll talk to her later I guess." He looks down. He is a good friend to them.
"I'm not here to complain or anything like that."
"Sorry I brought up leaving. I wasn't actually going to I just wanted to see-" I put my finger on his lips again.
"Well I can tell many things. Sometimes I believe you forget I am not human." He shrugged a bit guilty as the pink started to show on his cheeks. "Just look."
"Maybe I forget, but to me your more special than anyone else. I'll choose you over the world." He softly caresses my cheek.
"Even if being together creates an apocalypse?"
Laughing at my response, he cups my cheeks," If a hundred have to be made for us to be together, then so be it."
"Everyone I know hates it. Everyone keeps telling me this is wrong. We're not meant to be. Like I always believed because I saved you, it didn't caused the ocean and the sea spirits to be released." I admit,
"I always thought it was bound to happen regardless. Just breaking that rule wouldn't cause it, would it? But now I am not so sure... What if it did?"
"Violet...." He murmured softly. "Look at us. Then at the world. You're just another being who is apart of it all. How could they blame someone like you for it?"
He asked me, "They probably done their own mishaps and decided to blame you because of convince."
"I looked at the world all those years and all I saw was an endless blue world, filled will places so far off and out of reach. I always wanted to see more than I could go and now that world is something greater I cannot ever imagine." I whispered, "Because now you're in it."
I leaned over the edge and into him, "But if what you say is true, then that isn't fair at all. I done nothing and they decided to blame me? Why did they want to bring me down? It is like they fear me."
"Listen, what do you hear?" He leaned almost overboard so that his arms were around my shoulders and I felt his chest vibrate behind me.
I closed my eyes and listened as a blooming repeated, making its beat jumping higher and higher until it starts over. It was like endless happiness and....It was all me.
"It is all because of me." I state.
"What?" He asked, making sure he heard me correctly.
"Everything I hear is all because of me." I smiled giddily, knowing I had an affect on him. I even felt my own cheeks turn pink, "I want to apologize in the far future." I told him suddenly,
"If I can't do this and see you a lot, it is because my brother decided to get into watchfish mode."
"Watchfish mode?" He raised he left eyebrow allowing a chuckle to flow through his lips. "And what is watch fish mode?" He asked, making an amused expression.
"He follows me almost everywhere. And I finally got away for this. He hates you, you know. He hates humans. If you could just hear him," I sighed,
"He is always going on about how humans are a disgrace to nature doing pointless things. If he saw you with me, he'll probably kill you. I wouldn't want anything to happen to you...Seivon." I said his name slowly with ease.
"Kill me?" He widen his eyes, "Does he kill a lot of humans?"
"If you do something to him like bother him, then yeah. Or even if you find out something about what we are, he might." I told Seivon truthfully. I had to tell him what he was going against.
I would understand if he decides not to do anything more with me. I'll just be a sad, broken-hearted mermaid forever and I'll be okay with that.
"Okay..." He looked down, "Say uh Vio.." He trailed off a bit, "You haven't done anything like that have you? You d-didn't kill any humans, did you?"
My answer could make me lose him forever, but if he doesn't know and finds out later then that could make me lose him.
"Yes, I have." I looked away, "I was 13. Not all humans are good. They were bad people. I was with my brother at the time and they somehow knew about our magic and our existence. To put a stop to it that I'd what I did." I couldn't see his face. I couldn't look at him.
"Vio..." He trailed off, "I.. It's not your fault." Suddenly I felt his arms wrap around me, "Just promise you'll never do that again unless you feel like that is the only way to move forward."
"Seivon, I'm sorry. I stated before that we don't apologize, but I'm different. And I am really am sorry." I looked down,
"I won't do it for you. Besides your one of the few only good humans I met." I told the human. He still kept hugging me and it was comforting.
"So is being a human is bad?" Seivon suddenly asked, "I always liked it. You seem to dislike us as a whole. You and your brother, that is."
"I mean most humans are an annoying, pain, fighting bunch, and good for nothing beings." He starred at me giving me a 'really' look.
Oh that's right, he's a human too.
"And you complain about him?" He raised his eyebrows, "You both seem to have similar views about humans, but I'll show you that we are all not bad!" He exclaimed.
"It's fine if you don't understand. We are different. And you are a foolish human yourself." I stated boldly towards him.
I watched Seivon shake his head at my words, "I still don't know if that is a compliment or insult." A small smile went to my face.
"Try both. I mean you argued with a teacher on what I told you!" I was almost laughing and what he did, "You're crazy! You are such an idiot for doing that. What if a hidden sea spirit heard you?" I shook my head in amusement.
"I may be crazy, but only for you," He whispered in my ear. I felt my cheeks turn pink, so I leaned into him more. He then continued,
"I only said I didn't agree with their theory they claimed must be true! Wait...." Seivon paused a moment before thinking. "How you know that? Were you in my class?"
"The Rivalkai Mermaid told me, Kaisa." I avoided the question easily. I couldn't tell him he told me.
Humans, I heard some have trouble lying because of emotions like guilt that get in the way. Sure, I have developed human emotions.
But I can still lie and do things as nothing is wrong. It's normal. However, when it has to do with him, I feel guilt and embarrassment.
"I didn't explain it to Atlantic." I turned pale. "You know you don't have to lie to me..."
He whispers below my ear with his breath lingering on my neck after every word.
"If I told you I will d-"
"Oh?" He grins before adding, "I think I might know who you are, but I am not sure yet."
"Wait! W-what?!" I almost jumped up into the air. But before he could answer a whiff of wind passed by, but it was this cold, dreary feeling.
"I think...." And then he stopped, not saying anything.
"Is it just me or why do I feel like something is watching us, or watching me." He looked at me.
"It's probably the wind." He stated. Now finish the sentence.
"Yeah..." I trailed off, "But wait who do you think I am? I don't want to hide anymore."
He leaned forward and at once I felt his lips on mine. I just melted on spot. I was craving him, his touch, everything.
"I will see you soon." Like that he walked away. W-wait!
"Hold up! Don't go! Don't leave me on a cliffhanger!" I exclaimed, "Who am I?" He ignored my question and smirked at me.
How dare he!
Before leaving he turned around. "Did you know, today is our anniversary of when we met? That is also why I am a bit sad." He left before I could answer. He left with the last word. And I hated it.
But before I could dwell, I figured I have to go before he meets with them. I got out of the shore and went to the side of the school. I used the staircase and from there I went passed the toilets and finally I saw Kaisa, Ashton, and Melody.
"Took you long enough," Ashton muttered, but he was giving me a look like I did something and he knew.
"Yeah yeah yeah!" I exclaimed, "A girl gotta do what a girl gotta do." I began saying girl and boy instead of feminine and masculine.
We waited about ten more minutes and Seivon finally arrived.
"So where did you really go?" Melody crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes at Seivon.
"What do you mean? I talked with my teacher who had stupid reasons." I heard him answer her.
"Now why don't we-" Before Ashton could finish his sentence, thunder was heard and it started raining hard.
Oh seabass.
"It's raining!" Kaisa jumped back two feet grabbing my arm. Her eyes were wide and muttered sea language under her breath.
"Oh please, it is just a little rain. Why is your water phobia causing us to be late now?" Melody groaned rolling her eyes. I bet she didn't believe it.
"Actually, why don't you all go ahead and I'll stay back with Kaisa. I think I have some raincoats. Come with me, I'll go get them."
I pulled her arm towards me. As much as there was something up with her, I wouldn't want her to reveal herself.
"Yeah, everyone go ahead. I'll use a raincoat. It will be fine." Kaisa agreed winking at me. We have a plan. With a raincoat on both of us, arm to arm we went to the side entrance. Please don't hit our skin.
Rain here we come.
