I Help Turn A Titan Into A Pretty Maple Tree
It was time to get up. I redressed my wound with fresh bandages. I splashed cool water on my face to wake up. I gripped the edge of the sink and stared at my reflection. The tan I had was washed out, my freckles even looked dull. My natural rosy cheeks were nonexistent. My purple eyes were lighter and dark purple bags hung under my eyes.
With a sigh, I ignored my messed up hair and walked out. When I left the room, I saw Drew coming my way. Her eyes lit up when she saw me.
"Ivy!" Drew jogged over to me. "You're okay!"
"I'm alive." My lips quirked into a smile.
"And in need of a new hair do." Her nose scrunched at my messy hair. "Let me brush it out for you and put it into a ponytail. Come on over to the room I'm staying at."
"Thanks." I followed after her.
We entered a room a few doors down from mine. Drew grabbed a hair brush and patted the bed for me to sit down on. She took out the hair elastic and set the braid free. Drew started to hum as she brushed my hair.
"You know, you should sit this out hon." Drew said, in an all too familiar tone. "You know, to heal and stuff."
"Charm speak doesn't really work on us Dionsyus kids and you know that." I told her.
"I know." Drew heaved a sigh and she started to brush my hair into a ponytail. "Worth a shot. You can sit one out, though. Rest your shoulder."
"We can't afford it and you know it." I licked my lips as she wrapped the elastic around my hair.
"Yeah." She tapped my good shoulder. "Okay, you're good."
"Thanks." I gave her a smile and walked out of the room.
"He's in the room next to yours on the left!"
I sent her a wave. The door closed behind me as I walked down the hall. I stopped in front of his door, double checking that mine was to the right of it.
"He's not going to like it." Annabeth walked toward me with her shield in hand.
"He's going to have to deal with it." I told her causing her to smirk.
"You doing okay?" Annabeth nodded toward my shoulder.
"As good as it can be in this condition." I said, opening the door.
Percy was laying asleep in the bed. Annabeth and I walked over to go wake him up. Suddenly, he shot up and hit his head on Annabeth's shield. I cracked a smile.
"Ow!"
"Sorry, Percy." Annabeth apologized. "I was just about to wake you up."
Percy rubbed his head. He was deep in concentration. His brows furrowed and he was deep in thought. He looked disturbed by something. Most likely a demigod dream he awoke from.
"Percy?" Annabeth asked. "What's wrong?"
"Was it a demigod dream?"
"Nothing." Percy lied. He then turned to look at me, his brow raised. "What... what are you doing in armor? You should be resting."
"I'm fine." I waved a hand in dismissal. "That nectar and ambrosia fixed me up."
"Uh-huh." Percy eyed me, not believing a word I said. "You can't seriously go out and fight."
I rolled my eyes and offered my good hand to him. He narrowed his eyes at me and took my hand. I helped him up.
"You're going to need every person you have." I told him.
"She's right." Annabeth said with a frown. "I just looked in my shield. There's an army-"
"Heading south into Central Park." Percy finished. "Yeah, I know."
He told us about his dream. That Percy had an inkling Ethan may know where his weak spot is. He also mentioned that Ethan lied to Kronos about it. Percy said Kronos mentioned a surprise.
"Do you think Ethan suspects about your weak spot?" Annabeth asked.
"I don't know." Percy admitted. "He didn't tell Kronos anything, but if he figured it out-"
"We won't let him."
"I'll bonk him on the head harder next time." Percy said. "Any idea what surprise Kronos was talking about?"
"It could be anything, really." I frowned.
"I didn't see anything in the shield," Annabeth shook her head, "but I don't like surprises."
"Agreed."
"So," I looked at Percy, "are you going to argue about me coming along?"
"Nah." He said, causing Annabeth to raise a brow in surprise. "You'd just beat me up."
"Glad you know." I laughed.
Percy smiled and grabbed his sword. Then then three of us went to rally the troops.

Thalia, Grover, and the head counselors were waiting for us at the Reservoir. The lights of the city were blinking on at twilight. Street lamps glowed around the shore of the lake, making the water and trees look even spookier.
"They're coming." Thalia confirmed, pointing north with a silver arrow. "One of my scouts just reported they've crossed the Harlem River. There was no way to hold them back. The army..." she shrugged. "It's huge."
"We'll hold them at the park." Percy said. "Grover, you ready?"
"As ready as we'll ever be." Grover nodded. "If any nature spirits can stop them anywhere, this is the place."
"Yes, we will!" Said another voice. A very old, fat satyr pushed through the crowed, stumbling over his own spear. He was dressed in wood bark armor that only covered half of his belly.
"Leneus?" Percy said.
"Don't act so surprised." He huffed. "I am a leader of the Council, and you did tell me to find Grover. Well, I found him, and I'm not going to let a mere outcast lead the satyrs without my help!"
"What exactly did you tell this guy?" I leaned over to Percy to whisper.
"At this point, I don't think it matters." Percy raised an amused eyebrow at Grover who was making gagging motions behind Leneus's back.
"Never fear!" Leneus continued. "We'll show those Titans!"
"Um... yeah. Well, Grover, you won't be alone." Percy told him. "Annabeth and the Athena cabin will make their stand here. And me, Ivy, and Thalia?"
"Say no more." Thalia patted him on the shoulder. "The Hunters are ready."
"That leaves the rest of you with a job just as important." Percy looked at the other counselors. "You have to guard the other entrances to Manhattan. You know how tricky Kronos is. He'll hope to distract us with this big army and sneak another force in somewhere else. It's up to you to make sure that doesn't happen. Has each cabin chosen a bridge or tunnel?"
The counselors nodded grimly.
"Then let's do it." Percy said. "Good hunting, everybody!"
🍇
We heard the army before we saw it. The noise was like a cannon barrage combined with a football stadium crowd. At the north end of the reservoir, the enemy vanguard broke through the woods - a warrior in golden armor leading a battalion of Laistrygonian giants with huge bronze axes: hundreds of other monsters poured out behind them.
"Positions!" Annabeth yelled.
Her cabin mates scrambled. The idea was to make the enemy army break around the reservoir. To get to us, they'd have to follow trails, which meant they'd be marching in narrow columns on either side of the water.
The enemy divided and streamed toward us along the shore. When they were halfway across, our defenses kicked in. The jogging trail erupted in Greek fire, incinerating many of the monsters instantly. Others flailed around, engulfed in green flames. Athena campers threw grappling hooks around the largest giants and pulled them to the ground.
In the woods on the right, the Hunters sent a volley of silver arrows into the enemy line, destroying twenty or thirty dracanae, but more marched behind them. A bolt of lightning crackled out of the sky and fried a Laistrygonian giant to ashes.
Grover raised his pipes and played a quick tune. A roar went up from the woods on both sides as every tree, rock, and bush seemed to sprout a spirit. Dryads and satyrs raised their bulbs and charged. The trees wrapped around the monsters, strangling them. Grass grew around the feet of the enemy archers. Stones flew up and hit dracanae in the face.
The enemy slogged forward. Giants smashed through the trees, and naiads faded as their life sources were destroyed. Hellhounds lunged at the timber wolves, knocking them aside. Enemy archers returned fire, and a Hunter fell from a high branch.
Vines broke through the ground and wrapped around the legs and arms of the enemy archers. I made the vines tighten around them and they fell to the ground with a loud thump. The Hunters were quick to send another volley of arrows.
"Percy!" Annabeth grabbed his arm and pointed at the reservoir.
The Titan in the golf armor wasn't waiting for his forces to advance around the sides. He was charging toward us, walking straight over the top of the lake. A Greek firebomb expo Lord right on top of him, but he raised his palm and sucked the flames out of the air. My eyes widened at the sight.
"Hyperion." Annabeth said in awe. "The lord of light, Titan of the east."
"Bad?" Percy guessed.
"Next to Atlas, he's the greatest Titan warrior. In the old days, four Titans controlled the four corners of the world. Hyperion was the East- the most powerful. He seas the father of Helios, the first sun god."
"I'll keep him busy." Percy promised.
"Percy, even you can't-"
"Just keep our forces together."
"He's on the water." I told him, knowing arguing against him was wasting time. Percy glanced at me. "He's walking on the water due to reflection I'm assuming. Stir up the reflection, yeah?"
Percy smirked and nodded. He advanced toward Hyperion, running over the top of the water. Annabeth nudged my good arm and pointed her dagger at the upcoming enemies.
"Ready?"
"Let's do this."
The both of us ran separate ways. Annabeth led a charge with her siblings on the right flank. I joined Grover on the left flank. Grover and his nature spirits were regrouping, entangling the enemies with bushes and weeds. I tried to fight as little as I could with my sword, only using it as needed. My shoulder was aching and sore already. I was only using the sword for close range fighting.
I grew more vines at the feet of giants and hellhounds. Two pillar like vines stood on either side of me. They were covered in grapes. A giant was getting too close to my liking. I twirled my sword in hand and willed the vines to throw grapes. It first started off with one. A big crisp purple grape soaked through the air and hit the giant in the eye.
"WHA?" He bellowed, stumbling back. He cupped his eye in pain. The giant turned to look at me, sending me a glare. He raised his club and started to surge forward. A grin spread across my lips. Then the vines started to shoot grapes at him as if they were machine guns. "ARRRGH!"
Some of the bush spirits turned to look at me with interested looks. They looked at each other with excitement, waving their hands around and pointing at the hellhounds. They started to have bushes fire berries at the enemy. Huckle berries, cane berries, raspberries, and more were splattering on the enemy's eyes. They would be momentarily blinded while the satyrs rushed in and beat them with their clubs.
The wind started to pick up. My hair whipped around, some of it smacking my face. I could hear water spray a few feet behind me. I glanced over my shoulder to see Percy standing in his own personal hurricane. My mouth dropped in awe.
"Percy!" Grover ran up beside me in amazement. "How are you doing that?"
Percy looked down to see what he was talking about. Clouds of water vapor swirled around him. The winds were so powerful, they buffeted Hyperion and flattened the grass in a twenty yard radius. Enemy warriors stopped paying attention to us and were trying to stop Percy. They threw javelins at him, but the storm knocked them aside.
I took the moment to grow vines at their feet and tug them to the ground. I made sure the vines tied them up while the satyrs and nature spirits got to them.
Lightning flickered around Percy. The clouds darkened and the rain swirled faster. Percy closed in on Hyperion and blew him off his feet.
"Get ready to help me." Grover told me. I gave him a nod, tightening my hold on my sword. "Percy! Bring him over here!"
Percy slashed and jabbed at the Titan. Hyperion could barely defend himself. His eyes kept trying to ignite, but the hurricane quenched his flames. Percy propelled Hyperion across the field, straight to Grover and I.
"I will not be toyed with!" Hyperion bellowed.
I started to call the vines to slowly sprout from the ground, my hands raising with them. Hyperion managed to get to his feet again, but Grover put his reed pipes to his lips and began to play. The vines started to slither to the tune of the song and wrap around the Titan's legs. Leneus joined him. Around the grove, every satyr took up the song - and eerie melody. The ground erupted at Hyperion's feet. Gnarled roots wrapped around his legs.
"What's this?" He protested. He tried to shake off the roots and vines, but he was still weak. The roots thickened until he looked like he was wearing wooden boots. The vines were at his knees now, tightening and thickening the higher they climbed. "Stop this! Your woodland magic is no match for a Titan!"
The more he struggled, the faster the roots grew. The vines started to wrap around his arms individually. The roots curled about his body, thickening and hardening into bark. His golden armor melted into the wood, becoming a large trunk.
The music continued. Hyperion's forces backed up in astonishment as their leader was absorbed. He stretched out his arms and they became branches, from smaller branches shot out and grew leaves. The tree grew taller and thicker, until only the Titan's face was visible in the middle of the trunk.
My knees shook and my hands trembled. The vines were slowing down as my energy weakened.
"You cannot imprison me!" Hyperion bellowed. "I am Hyperion! I am-"
The bark closed over his face. My hands dropped to my sides as I took in deep breaths. My shoulder was aching more than before. I winced, my hand reaching out to cradle it.
"You," Grover his pipes from his mouth, "are a very nice maple tree."
Several of the other satyrs passed out from exhaustion. The Titan Lord was completely encased in an enormous maple tree. The trunk was at least twenty feet in diameter, with branches as tall as any in the park. There were some grape vines the poked out. High up in the tree was a cluster of purple grapes.
The Titan army started to retreat. A cheer went up from the Athena cabin. My knees buckled and Percy was quick to catch me. He slung my good arm over his shoulder and wrapped one arm around my waist.
"I got you." He muttered.
"That was some killer hurricane." I gave him a weak smile.
"I don't think I'll ever look at grapes the same way again." Percy said. I breathed out a smile, leaning my jeans on his shoulder to rest. "How's your shoulder?"
"Achy." I admitted. Percy sent me a look. "I'm fine. Don't worry. Just need to rest for a bit."
"REEEEEEET!"
The squeal echoed through upper Manhattan. Demigods and monsters alike froze in terror.
"Why does that sound like..." Grover shot us a panicked look. "It can't be!"
"REEEEET!" A huge pink creature soared over the reservoir.
"A sow!" Annabeth cried. "Take cover!"
The demigods scattered as the winged pig swooped down. Her wings were pink like a flamingo's that would have made me think of her as a cute pig until her hooves slammed into the ground, barely missing one of Annabeth's siblings. The pig stomped around and tore down half an acre of trees, belching a cloud of noxious gas. Then she took off again, circling around for another strike.
"Don't tell me that thing is from Greek mythology." Percy complained.
"Then I won't tell you." I said.
"Afraid so." Annabeth told him. "The Clazmonian Sow. It terrorized Greek towns back in the day."
"Let me guess. Hercules beat it." Percy assumed.
"Guess again." I shook my head.
"Nope." Annabeth said. "As far as I know, no hero has ever beaten it."
"Perfect." Percy muttered.
The enemy army was recovering from their shock. The sow wasn't attacking them. We only had seconds before they were ready to fight and our forces were still in a panic. Every time the sow belched, Grover's nature spirits helped and faded back into their trees.
"That pig had to go." Percy carefully let me go, eyeing me. I gave him a nod that I was okay. He grabbed a grappling hook from one of Annabeth's siblings. "I'll take care of it. You guys hold the rest of the enemy. Push them back!"
"But, Percy," Grover said with a tiredness in his voice, "what if we can't?"
"Retreat if you need to." Percy told us. "Just slow them down. I'll be back as soon as I can."
Percy swung the grappling hook like a lasso when the sow came down for its next pass, he threw it. The hook wrapped around the base of the pig's wing. It squealed in rage and veered off, yanking the rope and him into the sky.
