CHAPTER 14

Allison's POV

With the good weather in the sky, I and Harley went to Ashley's grave after we went into the mall. I never thought that I would be bringing someone on my greatest friend's grave.

I never imagined that of all people, Harley would be the one that I brought here. The person who made my life more complicated since I met him.

Thus, I could not deny the fact that I had become comfortable with him. His presence made me feel protected. With his presence, I felt something different unlike when I'm with Levi.

Wait. Did I compare them?! The hell! Don't think of that, Ali!

I sighed after we both sat in front of the grave.

"It's been a while, Ash!"

Harley was still not saying a word after he sat down on the ground. I turned my eyes on him. He was focused while holding the grave of Ashley. His gorgeous face formed a sadness on it. I put my hand on his back.

"Harley, what happened? Are you okay?" I asked and he turned his eyes on me.

"Huh? Yeah. I'm alright..." He chuckled. "I just realized that life is unfair."

I looked back at Ashley's grave. "Yeah. There are people that do not deserve to experience the worst scenario in their life but that's what life gives to them. Ashley was one of the examples."

He nodded and looked at me again. "How did the both of you enter the association?" He asked.

I chuckled and grinned at the same time. "It was a long story but to make it short, our current boss was the one who encouraged us to join the association. Besides, we're both soon to be lawyers that time."

"So, you did not continue your law degree?"

I shook my head. "I did. To be honest, there are times that I want to quit in the association but I already committed myself and I promised her to continue my life as Vigilante." I formed a bitter sweet smile on my face.

He remained silent after a few seconds. I looked at him while he was looking at the sky then I continued to say, "Also, I promised her to find my real parents and... her brother."

He turned his gaze again on me and showed a smile his face.

"You already found the one."

"Huh? What did you say?"

He whispered some words but I did not hear it clearly.

He chuckled. "Nothing! It's about to rain. Let's go home?"

I nodded. After that we both stood up and said goodbye to Ashley.

When Harley was about to walk, I called him.

"Harley! Thank you. Thank you for your presence," I sincerely said.

He curled his lips into a sweet smile and his gaze was still on mine. "I told you. If we met each other again, I will slowly make you mine, Ali. You have nothing to do with it." He winked. I rolled my eyes and he chuckled again.

When I was about to follow him, I saw on my peripheral vision the two men wearing a full black on their body. They were standing on the tree near the grave. They were holding a gun and pointing it out in our place.

I looked around without giving them an eye. There was no one here on the side of this cemetery except from us. The car was a few meters away from the grave. I kneeled down and got my gun to my hidden pocket.

One. Two. Three.

"HARLEY!! RUN!" I exclaimed after they already made a gunshot towards our place.

Harley's face was in confusion and widened eyes showed after he heard the gunshot. We were now both running away from the two men.

Suddenly, another consecutive gunshots was made from them. They were following us. I quickly grabbed and hugged Harley then we both rolled each other on the ground to avoid the bullets.

I also made a bunch of gunshots to the two men after we stopped from rolling on the ground. When I stood up, I knew that they were already gone. The hell! Are they going to kill me?!

"Allison! What was that?!" Harley exclaimed after he stood up from the ground.

"I don't know! I just saw them and I knew that we are their target."

"Why didn't you tell me?!" He worriedly asked.

"The hell! Gunshots are dangerous. I just don't want to lose someone important to me again, Harley."

"Is someone wants to kill you?"

"I don't know!" I exclaimed.

He deeply sighed and grabbed my hand. For a moment, he wrapped her arms on my body.

"So, am I important to you?" He simply whispered in my ear while still hugging me. I nodded.

"Don't worry. Even if you protected me earlier. I'm still gonna protect you with all my best. Let's go home now, Ali," he sincerely whispered.

After a few seconds, he let go from the hug and walked inside the car. I followed him and entered the other front seat of the car.

We both did not speak while we were on the road. The only sound occupying our silence was the music he played.

Until we reached our house, no one attempted to speak. I quickly went inside the house likewise on what he did after we got out of the car.

"Allison! Why did you seem messed up?What happened?" Dad asked as I walked fiercely inside the house.

I did not answer his question and continued to walk upstairs. I badly needed to call Boss Rom. This might be connected to my case before.

"Harley! What happened?" I heard Dad worriedly ask Harley.

"There were two men who attacked us with gunshots while we were in the cemetery, Mr. Jack," Harley answered. I stopped from going upstairs.

The hell! I thought he's not going to say it. I closed my eyes and calmed myself.

"What?! What are you doing in the cemetery? The hell! I'm going to call the police now!" Dad exclaimed.

I went back downstairs.

"You don't need to do it, Dad. I'm going to give it to the association," I stated.

"No! You almost hit with bullets because of that freakin' association, Allison!"

"Your Dad is right, Ali," Harley also said.

I sighed. "Dad, it's our responsibility to catch whoever wants to take our lives. So, don't worry about it. Please, don't tell Mom about it," I explained and pleaded.

I turned my eyes back to Harley. "Just give it to me. I can handle this. For now, forget what happened. That's the best thing to do." I left them and went back upstairs.

After I entered my bedroom, I quickly took my phone in my pants and called Boss Rom.

"Boss. Bad news. Someone wants to kill me," I stated.

"What?! What happened?"

"I almost got hit with shotguns earlier."

"Let's talk about it when you come back." The call ended between the both of us.

*****

The next day, it seemed that nothing happened. Mom and Dad were busy with their paperworks while I was doing my readings for my law school.

Another day had passed when Mom told me about the recognition from the school. They were inviting us to attend the recognition. I'm almost there with my dreams. I knew that I could not let go of the association but I could still pursue my dream.

I spent the day again relaxing in the house. Sometimes, Harley was making some time. We talked a lot when I'm not busy.

I also started to read his notebook, the one that he gave before he left the prison. The first pages of the journal were all about his life after he went to prison. His identity gave me a huge question about him but there was something inside of me that kept on telling me that I should trust him.

Now, this was my last day of my work-leave. I had more important things to do. Maybe, I could go back before the recognition.

I am now putting my duffel bag inside the car. I just brought the important things with me.

Suddenly, Harley showed up from the garden. He was holding the car key.

"Ready?" He asked before he entered the driver's seat. I simply nodded.

I stared at him for a moment. "Harley," I called out.

He turned his eyes on me. "Yes?"

"Can you do me a favor?"

He smiled a bit. "Sure. What is it?"

"Please take care of Mom and Dad," I demanded and pleaded, staring at his eyes.

"You don't have to say it. It's my duty to protect them," he answered with sincerity.

I formed a smile on my face. "Please. Don't let something might happen. I trust you, Harley."

He's the only person that I could trust. He's the only person that was close to my parents. I knew that he would protect them. He would protect my family likewise on what I was doing with our country.

"Don't worry, My Ali! This is Harley at your service." He winked at me.

I rolled my eyes and entered inside the car. I sat down on the front seat beside Harley. He was smirking as he started to engine the car.

I mentioned the address of the association and he already drove the car from our house. Almost thirty minutes of driving when we reached the building.

He parked the car beside the front of the building. Before I opened the car's door, I turned my eyes again on him.

"Contact me if something might happen." Then I already went down from the car with the handbag on my hand.

"Take care, My Ali," he called out before I entered the building.

He drove the car until it vanished in my sight.
