PAGE 13: Try and find Steve
You turn right, heading deeper into the mall's back hallways. You really hope Steve is back from his vacation, because Billy's strange behavior plus the hospital murders are freaking you out. And, you still want to ask Steve on that date...
You arrive at the Scoops Ahoy employee entrance and knock.
The door swings open, revealing Mickey.
"Hey, do you have the delivery of-oh." Mickey stops short when he realizes you're not a delivery person. "It's you again! If you want ice cream, you have to come around the front."
"Sorry," you say. "That's not why I'm here. Is Steve in today?"
Mickey raises an eyebrow.
"You're really anxious to talk to him, huh? Is everything okay?"
"Sort of. So, is he here, or-"
"He's still out," Mickey says. "Sorry."
Mickey starts to close the door, but you stick your foot out to stop it, an idea brewing in your mind.
"Those kids that he hangs out with," you ask. "What are their names?"
Mickey narrows his eyes at you. "You're not, like, going to kidnap them, right?" he asks.
"If I was," you deadpan, "I wouldn't tell you."
He shrugs and says, "Fair enough." He rattles off their names and mentions that one of the kids, Mike Wheeler, is Steve's ex-girlfriend's little brother. You wonder if Steve is with Nancy. The thought crushes you just a smidge, but you set that feeling aside.
At the payphone outside the mall, you find the Wheeler's address in the phone book. You scribble it on a scrap of paper and head back to your car, planning to drive over there and see if Nancy or Mike have heard from Steve. Maybe if Max is there too, you could ask if she knows what's going on with Billy and put feelers out to deduce if he's responsible for the hospital massacre.
You really, really hope he isn't.
When you arrive at the Wheeler's house, you see Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler exiting the front door with their youngest daughter Holly.
"Excuse me!" you call, rushing up the driveway before they can climb into their sedan. "Are Nancy and Mike here?"
"Oh, hello!" Mrs. Wheeler says. "Are you a friend of theirs?"
"Yep!" you lie. You've spoken to Nancy maybe once, when she came to your store to buy new stationary. You've seen Steve sneak Mike and his buddies to the employee hallway for free movies, and that's about it.
"They're out right now," Mrs. Wheeler says. "I think at the Byers' house? I know they're meeting at the Fun Fair this evening."
"Awesome," you say. "Thank you so much!"
Before she can say anything else, you dart back to your car and drive to yet another payphone, where you find the Byers' address in that phone book. You also scribble down the Sinclair, Henderson, and Hargrove/Mayfield addresses.
You visit each home, but it's the same story each time: either nobody's home or only the parents are. They each rattle off the name of another family and assume their children are safe and accounted for, not realizing that you've been to every single one of those houses today with no sign of their kids.
By the time you finish your sweep of Hawkins, the sun is much lower in the sky and you hear the marching band warming up at the Fun Fair grounds a few miles away. Maybe you should just go to the fair and forget about finding Steve and figuring out if Billy is secretly a murderer.
WHAT DO YOU DO?

B. GO TO THE BACK TO THE FUTURE SCREENER - go to page 16
