31. THE TRUTH?

Kismet:
A thing we wanted to run away from, yet something that still bound us together.

The dark night tasted cold on his tongue as he tightened his hold on the ancient craved lantern in his fingers. Sweat trickled down on his temple making him twitch his face into disgust. Baraq was bored sitting and watching Layla at night. It was after the mid night when he decided to utilise himself in another non-of-his-business work. The  cave of Jinns stood old yet strong in front of him as he gazed up at it. His feet frozen on the cold grainy sand.

The sand tickled his shoes dragging him in the sand on every step with which he neared the cave. Maybe the sand knows something about the cave which was yet to be found by him. Intrigued by the old telltales about the cave, he began his journey to find the truth of th cave.

Baraq had an amazing skill of sneaking like a thief. Infact he was a thief and he was proud of it. His empty hand tucked in the keffiyeh tightly against his face as he began to walk towards the cave. Curiosity made his eyebrows stuck together as he thought hard about the place.

Cave of Jinns. What it was and most of all, why everyone in his village feared it? A question he never found an answer.

The stars twinkled above his head as he finally let loose his keffiyeh. His broad shoulders stiffened as he carried himself inside the cave with elegance. But, his facade was broken the next minute when he felt the environment around him going chill. It made goosebumps appear on his long sleeved arms.

His shallow breath echoed in the emptiness of the cave reminding him of the life he was living. Empty but shallow. There was abyss everywhere in him, something he was disgusted with.

The fire of curiosity burned his guts as he stepped inside the darkness of the cave. The ancient lantern flickered against the black walls of the cave, its shadow dancing on the empty engraved walls. Baraq couldn't help but feel his curiosity be fanned by those patterns on wall. It showed something, it told something but it was past of Baraq's limit to understand it all.

Tilting his head he walked inside and more inside deep into the abyss until he came across the yellow light which made his eye brows scrunch in confusion as she gingerly stepped closer to it. Just as he raised his hand with his fingers urging to touch the light, it swiftly vanished and swooshed to the ceiling of the cave basking it with bright light making Baraq hide his eyes from the painful brightness.

Adjusting his eyes, he squinted his eyes and his eyes went wide. Numerous statues stood infront of him. Not only on the infront but it stood around him. Everywhere near him sucking out his breath. His throat went dry as he knew making statues and worshipping them was forbidden. The people from his village would never do this, heck they won't even think about it.

But, something was different about these statues. He remembered them from the time he came here to pick up Layla. Things weren't that dense that time. He remembered the

The flames flickered startling Baraq as he gulped and stared at one of the statue. It was like a boy. Nearing the statue with caution, he raised his hand which carried the ancient lantern making the stony face reflect with light. The expression of the face was as if denying to be a stone. One thing from the experience was cleared and that was it; that those statues were not made for worshipping. Huge intricate pillars surrounded the statues. He remember seeing, the huge statue, but where is it, now? His eyes roam on their faces as he different expressions of every statue. Some were horrified and some were surprised but something was same in every statue's eyes and that was fear.

His grainy desert eyes shone with curiosity as he focused his stare with strong eyes.

A small drop of tear slide down the stony cheek making Baraq's heart drop into his guts as he gasped for a breath, taking a step back. What was it. How could the stone cry? He questioned mentally with his heavy breathes resonating in the cave and wetting his dry throat. His hands shook violently as his eyes went wide with fear and head began to spin. Sucking in a sharp breath and tightening his jaw he tried to calm himself.

"Save us," a whisper rang in his ear startling him making him jump on his place.

"Please," the hushed voice grew louder.

It was one and now it was numerous.

"Save us, I beg you." Shaky voice rose from the depth of the cave, resonating around him.

"Please, don't leave us here to die!" A cry rang making him gulp down the lump in his throat.

"She will end all of us!" A heavily thundered voice begged making cold panic curl around Baraq's straight spine and settling into his bone.

"Please save us!"

Goosebumps erupted on his cold skin making him shake up violently as he fell on his back with thud and his eyes widened with horror.

The hushed voices grew louder by each passing second as he breathes heavily with his shoulder tensing on the edge of fear. Fear of something he couldn't name. The buzz in his ear grew louder making him close his eyes tightly and grip his heart as it beat aloud, thumping aggressively in his chest.

"Please," the chanting of hushed hissed together.

"Save," pleading him, as if he could really save them

"Us!" The chants grew louder making his head throb in pain.

"Kill her!" His eyes shot open wide as he stared at ceiling where the light flickered with something and his eyes shone with horror. The ancient torch fell from his hand with a thud on the ground. He couldn't help but open his mouth to scream, but his voice was no-where to be found. Cold sweat broke down on his skin, coating his temple and nape making him loosen his keffiyeh around his face. His breaths closed around his throat clutching it tightly, as he suddenly grew panic.

He couldn't breath.

What was happening to him? He began to question, but the spinning head, loud buzz, heavy breathing, numerous heavy and blur voices didn't help. It only made him clutch his head tighter as he groaned in pain and fear.

Black dots appeared in his vision as he tried to stop the murmurs.

"Stop," his lips shook as he heaved a breath and the murmurs stopped just like that, on a single call.

Closing his eyes he fainted on the ground but before fainting he saw the shadow of the light vanishing into thin air and the abyss consumed him.
