Jake walked into Emily's room, where she was lying in bed, her face partially hidden beneath the covers. The room was dimly lit, and Emily’s fatigue was evident. Jake sat on the edge of the bed and gently shook her shoulder.

“Emily, wake up,” he said softly. “We need to talk.”

Emily stirred but didn't fully open her eyes. “Jake, I’m really tired. Can it wait?”

“No, it can’t,” Jake replied, concern in his voice. “I’ve found out some important information about Cole Matthews, and I need you to listen.”

Emily sighed and pushed herself up on her elbows. “What is it?”

Jake took a deep breath before continuing. “I spoke to Jessica Taylor’s mother. She’s convinced Cole is responsible for her daughter’s disappearance.”

Emily rubbed her eyes, trying to stay focused. “So, what now?”

Jake’s expression grew more serious.  “All the victims have been blonde and blue-eyed cheerleaders. Cole might have been upset because Jessica rejected him. She was a cheerleader with blue eyes and blonde hair, just like the others.”

Emily’s face went pale, and she looked away. “That’s horrible.”

Jake noticed how exhausted and worn out Emily looked. “Why are you always so tired lately? It’s not like you.”

Emily hesitated, feeling a lump in her throat. “I’ve been feeling off for a while now. I just thought it was stress or something.”

Jake’s concern deepened. “Emily, you need to take care of yourself. Let’s get you checked out. It could be something more serious.”

Emily shook her head. “I’ll be fine. I just need to focus on what we need to do about Cole.”

Jake wasn’t convinced. “Emily, please. For once, let’s prioritize your health. We need to make sure you’re okay, too.”

Emily sighed, knowing he was right. “Okay, fine. I’ll go to the doctor.”

They headed to the clinic, and Emily tried to push her worries aside. The doctor’s office was busy, but Jake’s presence provided a small comfort.

After the examination, the doctor delivered unexpected news. “Emily, you’re pregnant.”

Emily’s eyes widened in shock. “Pregnant? How… how is that possible?”

The doctor continued, “It’s important to discuss your options and figure out the best path forward.”

Jake, who had been waiting outside the room, came in. He looked at Emily with concern. “Are you okay?”

Emily took a deep breath, trying to process the news. “I don’t know, Jake. I just don’t know.”

Jake put a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “We’ll figure this out together. I know it’s a lot to take in.”

Emily hesitated before speaking. “Jake, it’s Cole’s baby. We slept together at the party, and I’m not in a relationship with anyone else. I’m just focused on finding out what happened to Ashley.”

Jake’s eyes widened with shock. “Cole’s? That’s… that’s a lot to deal with. But we’ll get through this. It’s important to focus on both your health and uncovering the truth about Ashley.”

Later, back at home, Emily and Jake sat together in the living room. Emily looked troubled, her thoughts racing.

Jake broke the silence. “Jessica’s mother mentioned that Jessica rejected Cole. Maybe that’s why he targets girls like that. He might still be upset over her rejection.”

Emily nodded, her expression thoughtful. “It makes sense. But what am I supposed to do now?”

Jake shook his head. “I don’t know yet, but we’ll handle it. You’re not alone in this. We’ll find a way to deal with Cole and figure out what’s best for you and the baby.”

Emily looked at Jake, grateful for his support. “Thanks, Jake. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

Jake gave her a reassuring smile. “We’ll get through this. One step at a time.”

As they faced the challenges ahead, Emily felt a mix of fear and determination. With Jake by her side, she hoped to navigate the difficult path ahead and find a way to protect herself, her baby, and uncover the truth about Cole.
