The sun was setting as we walked inside the castle. Inside maids walked around, not paying us any attention.

I looked up, glancing around, and my jaw almost dropped. The castle was even more beautiful inside than outside.

The ceilings had crystal chandeliers hanging from them. The walls were made out of stone.

We stood at the entrance where a massive staircase split into two parts. One leading to the left and the other leading to the right. In the center, is a huge portrait of a very handsome man standing in a dark gray suit with piercing blue eyes.

King Alexander.

Even in a very old painting, he looked sublime. I shake my head. I shouldn't think he's handsome or hottest man I've ever seen. He's my target. Nothing more. Nothing less. Nothing special.

So why did I feel wrong?

" There you are, Jackson. I was starting to think you ran off with the girls and kept them for yourself," a woman wearing a white blouse and black pencil skirt says. She looked professional with a clipboard in hand and blue tooth in her ear.

" Joss, you know whores are beneath me," the driver, whose name I now know is Jackson replies.

Anything with a working brain is beneath you. I wanted to say. I was still mad about him hitting me.

Joss chuckles. " Of course. Well, I'll take them off your hand."

" No problem with me, doll," Jackson says flirtatiously.

Joss smiled was forced. Obviously, Jackson made her uncomfortable. She straightened her posture and regain her cool.

Jackson smirks before disappearing with superhuman speed.

Joss sighs, feeling relief.

" What a tool?" she mutters to herself.

I agree. If she wasn't a vampire, I could see myself liking her.

Joss turns her attention to us and studies us. Wondering what to do next. She didn't have to think long when a male voice spoke through the blue tooth in her ear, giving her instructions.

" Yes sir," she replies. " Okay, so I just heard from upstairs that King Alexander is in the garden. Lara will show you to him."

Lara? There was no one else around. Suddenly, a pretty brown haired girl appeared from behind her wearing a maids uniform.

" Ma'am. Are these the slaves?" she asked.

" Yes. Now take them to the garden," Joss answers.

" Yes ma'am," the girl replies, lowering her head. I could tell she was human by how submissive she was.

The girl didn't say anything and started walking. Zoey, Mia, and I followed. She lead us past the stairs and through a back door. As soon as we stepped outside, she turned around.

" I've missed you guys," she says giving Mia and Zoey a bear hug.

" We've missed you too. Now let us go. You're suffocating me," Zoey wheeze out.

The girl lets go and giggled. " Sorry. I'm just so happy to see you. I thought you guys were dead or worst, sold to another master."

Zoey laughed as well. " Master Alexander would never let us go."

The girl smiled. " Y'all are so in love with him. The new girl will be too."

She glances at me. " Hi, I'm Lara. These two lovebirds are my best friends. You're Violet, right?"

I felt awkward. The whole time I stood in the background watching them reunite. I didn't expect the attention to turn on me.

" Yea," I answer.

Lara eyed me up and down. " You're gorgeous. Mia, I think you have some competition."

Lara winked at me playfully.

Mia didn't find it funny. " As if. No offense Violet but you're just not his type."

" No offense taken," I reply.

Lara perks up. " I like her already. Let's go before anyone notices."

Zoey rolled her eyes. " Finally. I thought you were gonna keep us here all night.

" Shush," Lara says, a playful smile still on her face.

Zoey grinned and started walking behind Lara.

They all seemed really cool with each other. I never had friends so I didn't know what it felt like. Watching them made feel that maybe I missed out.

No, you're a hunter. Hunters don't need friends especially ones in love with a vampire.

We walk behind the castle to a lush garden filled with roses. Sitting on a bench, reading a book is a man dressed in an all black suit. Even his tie was black. Upon hearing us approach, he closes his book and stands.

He was tall, lean, and elegant like a royal.

My eyes go wide just as Mia, Zoey, and Lara kneels before him.

I know I should kneel but my body is completely frozen. Standing in front of me was the Vampire King Alexander and he didn't look happy.
