Eighteen
Once I reached the safety of my room, I collapsed onto the floor. I have never been that close to being bitten before. It scared me which got my adrenaline going. My hunter instincts were telling to me to go back down to his dungeon- his playroom as he calls it- and eliminate the potential threat.
I'm made to act on impulse and kill any life-threatening target. Whether it's to me or any harmless human.
I ran my hands through my hair and started pacing up and down the room. I mentally counted back down from 100.
3,2,1... I finally felt like I was back in control.
That was close.
I felt drained. I crawled into bed, and let sleep take me.

I was in the woods running away from something. I was terrified. I looked back into the dark forest, and although the shadows hid him well, I could still make out his features. He was tall. Really tall.
I had to get away. I felt like my feet weren't moving fast enough. I forgot to look where I was going and tripped over a branch. Quickly, I tried to get back up. A stinging sharp pain ran from my ankle up to my leg. I curled yell escaped my lips and I instantly fell back down.
It was broken for sure.
Even with my inhuman healing abilities, it would still take time to heal. Time that I don't have. I get back up, biting my lip to point of drawing blood as I stood on my twisted ankle. It took every ounce of my willpower not to pass out.
The man's footsteps grew louder, closer.
I need to get out of here.
I moved suddenly forgetting my broken ankle. It twisted. Black stars danced before my eyes.
The footsteps slowed, and I knew the man had caught up. It was too late for me to run. I had to fight.
I leaned against a tree, holding myself upright.
The man approached me. I gasped realizing who it was.
The Alexander Knight. Vampire King.
" What do you want from me?" I demanded.
" I don't want to hurt you," he says.
I really wanted to believe him.
He took another step towards me. I became alert.
" Stay back," I warned.
He didn't listen, taking another step forward. Too close.
I attacked him, leaping out in an offensive maneuver. Any other time my skills would be unmatched, but in my weakened state, the move was stupid. Alexander caught my foot and knocked me off as though brushing away a fly. His hands slammed into me, sending me backward.
I meant to fight back but my lack of coordination interfered with my ability to respond. I couldn't catch my footing, heading straight into a tree face first. It was going to hurt like hell.
Only it didn't.
Just as quickly as he blocked me, Alexander reached out and caught my arm, keeping me upright.
He pulled me into him. " It doesn't have to be like this Violet," he pleaded.
" Just let me have you mind, body, and soul." His words sounded sincere- romantic.
I returned his look defiantly and tried to jerk out of his hold. " Let me go!"
It barely had any effect on him. I knew he could restrain me all night if he wanted. Still, I was a fighter and I didn't go down easily. I contemplated my next move as I noticed him staring at me. More precisely at my neck.
" I'm sorry it had to be like this. I promise I'll make it painless." A hungry expression crossed Alexander's gorgeous face and his lips parted slightly, exposing his fangs.
He held me in his arms tightly so I couldn't move. He tilted my head and tossed my hair back, baring my neck.
" No," I yelled. I felt my heart race in fear and anticipation as his teeth neared my bare skin.
He lowered his head down to my shoulder. I cried out in pain as his fangs bit into me hard.
***********************
I woke up with a start, panting and trembling, my body sweaty and twisted in a mass of cotton sheets. For the first time since I was a child, I had a nightmare.
