26B. You had a reason.....
Reina: These two chapters can be read as an either or - it doesn't matter which one is read.
Previously on The Vampire's Servant....
Echo looked at you seriously. "Listen.... Look, where I'm from.... I broke several laws and endangered lives. I even killed people if they tried to kill me. Does that make me evil?"
~Branch of Fate has been selected~
"No. The way you're speaking means that you were protecting someone."
Echo frowns at you. "What?"
You have a hint of regret in your voice, but also a small sense of happiness - like you did something bad for the good of a friend."
Echo eyes you suspiciously. "Since when did you become omniscient? I don't remember that being one of your powers. If that's the case... Do you know what my name is?"
"Uh, no."
"That's what I thought. It's Isa, by the way."
You blink, then shake your head. "I was able to guess because a man in my village talked like that. He claimed to have killed many, but it turned out he did it to protect his daughter, whom had cut contact with him."
"Ah. I did not know that."
"Of course not," you reply. "It's not like you a file on my or something."
Echo doesn't respond, causing your eyes to go wide.
"Oh my g-"
"We don't have a file on you," Echo interjected. "Rather, Alicia found you and kept an eye on you - but not in a bad way. You see.... This world you live in is full of darkness. We were trying to prevent it from getting destroyed... And it seems that you can stop it."
"Um-"
"I know, I know," Echo grumbled. "My thoughts exactly. How can one girl change fate? Turns out, you're one of the keys. The others are Cori, Cora, and Azura."
"Keys?"
"Your actions are what determine whether everyone lives or dies."
Your knees weaken. "No......" You slump over in shock. You controlled everyone's lives? That's not possible!
Echo catches you and sits down, letting you lean against the wall. "Would it make you feel better if I told you that I had something similar?"
You stare at Echo. "What do you mean?"
Echo squirmed a little. "Well... I once had a choice like you. However... I was the only one bearing the burden. My decision could either make me a hero.... Or make me a villain. Good and evil. No in-between."
"What happened?"
Echo smiled bitterly. "I choose wrong. I lost everything, and thus have to cleanse my sins by doing the dirty work of others."
"Echo, I'm-"
"Save it. It was my own fault. I taunted fate, and that normally doesn't end well. And holy crap I sound like a nun."
"Weren't you one?" You ask.
"Briefly."
You stare at Echo. "Your story is so sad...."
"There's not much that I can do about it. It had been decreed as such but has yet to be written."
"What?"
"The author of this fic is still debating what to do with my story- when not planning out fairy tales about Fire Emblem characters or planning an Evillious Chronicles fic."
"What do fairy tales have to do with your past? And what are the Evillious Chronicles?"
"Nothing. It's just that Reina likes fairy tales," she muttered absentmindedly. "And Evillious Chronicles. That's why I have pink hair."
"Reina?"
"..... Nevermind."
"Are you sure, Echo?" You whisper.
"Yes. Now let's change the subject before the author decides to make us Youtubers or have us portray a fairy tale. Or even yet summon Cthulhu to make the story weirder."
"Uh... Okay...." You stutter.
"Fantastic weather we're having."
"What?" You look at Echo as if she summoned demon arms and became a full-blown yandere.
"I was merely changing the subject. Take that Reina!"
"Uh....."
"But for real.... I'll be more comfortable talking about my life at a later time. I still have to process everything."
You nod. "I'll be here for you."
"Thank you, (Y/N)."
You smile, and Echo returns it. After a few seconds, she says, "You know your story gets harder from here on out."
You blink. "Um..."
"You have a lot to do, and people will attempt to interfere with your progress. Just be aware of that."
You nod slowly. "If you say so, Echo."
No response.
You look around, but Echo was gone.
"Echo....?"
You hear someone cough behind you. You scramble off the floor and turn around.
It was Lamia.
"Can we talk?" She asked.
Reina: This is one of the paths that you can take talking to Echo. This was actually a test - would you guys like it if I did more of these (not necessarily with Echo)?
Also, I was initially avoiding Echo's name because she's in one of my other stories. However, there is a gap between Echo's story and this one, allowing for ambiguities to happen. For all you know, she could be lying to Reader-chan.
Also, Echo didn't give the same name as the one in the other chapter. Either she's lying or she's next explaining herself.
The question bracket for The Vampire's Servant, as well as The Dragon Prince is now open. You can now ask any of those characters questions (and dares) and they'll respond to them in this story. I'll also through in some random facts about The Vampire's Servant and The Dragon Prince.
I shall also accept requests for different ways to kill Leora. They shall be written in a different chapter.
I feel that this chapter was shorter than the other chapter.... Yeah, it is. Sorry about that.
