20.5. Lamia's Backstory

Reina: Small interlude to explain Lamia's motives. These are her thoughts right before she enters the portal.

As for all the "L" names... Lamia, Leora, and Lucy were unintentional. Leila was.

Lamia

My first memory of happiness that I remember was when I was four years old.

"Look Leila," my mother told me as she held up my youngest sister. "This is your newest sister Lucy."

I reached my hand out to her and smiled. "She's so pretty! Can I play with her?"

Mother shook her head sadly. "Not yet. She's merely two weeks old."

I pouted at my sleeping sister's face. "Wake up sissy."

"She cannot do much now. But she will in a while."

I smiled. "Okay mama!"

My family was perfect. Mother and Father were the patient lord and lady of the Lyric province, well-beloved by everyone. I was the oldest child, set to inherit Father's title. I had two younger sisters - Leora was a year younger than I was, and Lucy was three years younger than Leora.

Mother, however, was very frail. After giving birth to Lucy, she had to remain on bedrest. She seemed to be recovering, and Lucy was growing, eventually smiling and laughing. Father was relieved to see this. It was utopia.... A Camelot.

But all Camelots are destined to fall.

"Mama...?" I asked quietly.

Sobs echoed throughout the room. My mother was wailing, and Father was hugging her tightly.

I looked around. "Where's Lucy?"

My parents' sobs were the only answer I received.

Lucy disappeared when she was six months old. The servants told me she died.

I was devastated. My favorite sister was gone.

"Stop crying," my aunt Lavender told me one day.

"B-Bu-But-"

"Proper ladies do not cry."

I whimpered, but tears still flowed down my face.

Lavendar smacked me, causing my tears to worsen. Before long mother ran in and gave me a hug.

"Get out," she hissed.

"But Sandra-"

"Harm my children once more and you shall die."

That was the first time my mother showed her wrath and it scared me.

I would never see Aunt Lavender again until the day of my failed wedding.

------

Several years passed, and eventually Lucy was a mere figment of my imagination.

When I was twelve, my father taught me how to fight. He also started to teach me diplomacy and allowed for me to sit with when he had diplomatic meetings. I was a quick learner, and my father began to boast that I would be his successor that would make men tremble in my presence. I would laugh at this, imagining someone like Prince Xander scared to look me in the eye.

This didn't bode over well for Leora.

"What's so special about you?" She taunted. "You just follow orders."

"I can negotiate my way out of a battle," I replied. "What's so special about you?"

"I'm perfect," she boasted.

"Just shut the hell up."

Leora hated me. One of the maids wondered if it was middle child syndrome, but Lucy hadn't been in our lives for very long. I thought that it had to do with her personality and because Aunt Lavendar spoiled her.

-----

Eventually, I was old enough to get married. Father and Mother's health began to fail, leaving me to take care of the province by myself. I dealt with neighboring lords, and even hosted a ball.

And that was were I met Baron Kyle, one year my senior....

Kyle was the love of my life. His presence made my heart beat faster, and his smile lit up my world. I cried with happiness when he proposed to me, and we began to plan our wedding.

"Shall we use this?" I ask as I hold up a beautiful glass swan.

"Do whatever you want," he muttered, never looking me in the eye.

I giddily smile and ran off, happy that Kyle was agreeing with me.

I think that my parents illness made me desperate to find love. I wanted someone who cared for me to make up for the lack of attention from my parents.

I guess that made me naive.... Kyle never smiled when he was near me. He was bored and agreed to everything I said.

That was the warning bells....

I was never his soulmate.

-----

Leora never forgave me for having a wedding. She threw a hissy fit and insisted that it should be all about her. I banished her from my presence, too focused on my wedding.

That was my downfall.

"Look at the pretty bride," she taunted as she entered the chapel suddenly.

I turned from the altar. "Leora!"

Kyle and I were having a private wedding.... No one else was there.

It was what Kyle wanted.....

I gasped when my Aunt Lavender walked in with her servants Chaol and Dia. "Lavender?"

"That's Lady Lavender to you," she snapped. She summoned daggers to throw at me, but they hit the minister instead, who died before he hit the floor...

I couldn't take it. I snapped. I didn't remember what happened, but I was standing over Aunt Lavender's corpse, stabbing her several times to ensure her death. My dress and gloves were drenched in her blood...

"You killed Aunt Lavender!" Leora wailed.

"She was going to kill me!" I shouted back as I stepped away from her corpse.

Leora and I locked blades. I pushed her back and scarred her face. I had the upper hand. I was going to win.

If only Chaol hadn't been there.....

I would have killed her.

But he banished me....

He sent me to an alternate dimension.....

I could see my old world....

Talk with people....

But no one could hear my cries.
----------

Leora told everyone that Aunt Lavender killed the minister and myself. She also claimed to kill her.

That....

Made me.....

Hate her more......

------------

Soon, I saw why Kyle wanted a private wedding.

He was already married....

He just wanted my throne.....

After I disappeared, he went back to his wife....

I guess he thought that Leora would kill him too.....

If only she murdered him....

---------

"Why do you hate everyone?" A female with a thick accent asked.

I turned around to see a figure with pink hair and purple eyes. She wore a black shirt and black pants, and her golden cape made her seem powerful.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"Soy Is- I mean, I'm Echo."

"That's a dumb name," I told her.

"Shut up. It's temporary."

I rolled my eyes. "Whatever."

I was inside a castle. I had to stay here if I didn't want to get torn apart by psycho wolves.

But the church was were I could interact with my doppelgänger...

(Y/N).

"What are you doing?" Echo asked.

"Blaming myself for stupid mistakes," I muttered as I began to drink some pomegranate juice. "And hating everyone."

"Ah," Echo replied bitterly. "We all make mistakes, and sometimes that will damn our souls for eternity."

"You are one jar of sunshine," I muttered.

Echo shrugged. "Sorry. I f***** up and now I'm probably going to rot in hell. I'm not the person to ask for comfort in those situations."

"Noted," I replied.

Echo looked around. "This looks like the Water Temple from Ocarina of Time."

"Where's the water temple?" I asked.

"In the Zora lake. You know, from Zelda."

"What's Zelda?"

Echo's jaw dropped. "YOU NEVER HEARD OF THE LEGEND OF ZELDA?"

"Nope."

Echo scowled at me. "Argh.... This is Alice's fault."

"Alice...?"

"My boss."

"Ah."

"What's your name?" Echo asked. "I never asked you."

I scoffed. "My name is practically worthless. I call myself Lamia."

"What a lovely name...."

"It's a snake lady who drinks the blood of children and kills people.'

Echo shrugged. "My statement still stands."

"Weirdo."

Echo looked around. "Have you tried to escape?"

"Yes. I cannot leave this dimension."

"I can-"

"It won't work, Echo."

"Are you sure? I mean-"

"Don't."

Echo frowned. "It was worth a shot."

I shrugged and grabbed another glass.

"Lamia."

I sighed. "What?"

"There is no reason to hate the Nohrians or Hoshidans."

She then left me alone in the castle with pomegranate juice.

--------

I grabbed my sword and sheathed it. I put on my gloves and waited.

I have to kill Leora.....

I have to regain my throne....

And protect you......

......

......

And maybe.....

We can reconnect......

Lucy......

Reina: Just out of curiosity.....

Does anyone hate Leora now more than ever?

Also, does anyone pity Lamia?

I'll explain the Lucy thing later.

I'll upload the next part soon.
