HumbleTomatoand Rio2244 Here is my contest entry. 

You look out the window, somewhat concerned. The sky was darkening considerably, and you were a few miles away from home. You wanted to get back soon before the rain began, or else you would be stuck in  .

"Would that be all, Miss (Y/N)?" The merchant asked.

You snapped back to reality and nodded. "Yes. Thank you Anna."

Anna smiled and blew some of her red hair out of her eyes. "You want to spend the night here? The weather's pretty bad outside, and I'm worrying about the flooding."

You shook your head. "Thank you, but I can't. I have to return home tonight."

Anna frowned. "The road will flood. It's better if you stay in this town for a bit."

"I'll be fine," you assure her. "I'm taking a shortcut through the woods."

Anna nods uneasily. "Okay... Take care then."

You wave goodbye to Anna and exit her store. The sky was darker than before, so you clutch your black cloak closer and dash off into the woods.

Normally, you would take the main road to drop off deliveries from your uncle's warehouse, but you occasionally took a shortcut through the woods if you wanted to hurry home. As you hurried through the woods, the rain began to pelt the trees and the top of your cloak. You pull the cloak tighter again, and you weren't exactly paying attention as you trip over a root sticking out of the ground.

"Oof!" You fell down and hit the muddy ground. Groaning, you try to get up, only to slip again. Sighing, you attempt once more, and succeed in getting up. When you look up, you wanted to scream.

The path was blocked by a fallen tree. There was no way to climb above or around it, so your route home was gone.

"I don't want to go all the way back to Anna's village," you mutter.

Nature laughed at your predicament, as the rain twice as hard. You growl and kick the tree, but it didn't budge. You turn around and lean against the tree, wondering what to do. You casually turn your head to the right and see a gate that was opened, leading down another path.

You push away from the tree. Maybe the path leads to a shelter. You hurry onto the path, which thankfully wasn't muddy. The rain was coming down so hard now that you had to slow down to avoid slipping in the rain. You could barely see in front of you, and before long, you reach a manor. You step on the porch, and instantly your vision clears up. You approach the door and knock on it. Silence.

"Hello?" You ask. You knock again. You begin to rethink your plan and as you give up, the door opens.

"Welcome," a voice resounds from the darkness. You blink before putting on a brave face and entering the dark and foreboding manor.
