Chapter 1
Izuku learned life wasn't fair when he was four years old. A few centuries ago, a new species was born and caused mayhem to spread across the world. Vampires crept out of the shadows unexpectedly and brought on a new world order. Vampire Hunters became the most needed occupation as the population
dwindled and became meals for monsters.
Schools were made to train wanna-be Hunters and different companies came up offering to pay Hunters for their services. Great Hunters popped up everywhere and drove the Vampires back into hiding. Sure, there are a few Vampire related deaths here and there but it all mostly calmed down when the Hunters showed up. Eventually, enough Hunters came up that a ranking came with the title of Hunter.
The one Hunter that has held the Number 1 title for as long as Izuku could remember, the man who was an inspiration for the young boy, was known as All Might. Due to safety regulations, Hunters who made it professionally were given aliases to hide their true identities. In a way, the Hunters were like superheroes fighting against the villains who were the Vampires.
When Vampires first showed up, so did crazy powers that were given to humans. They were called Quirks. It was like a sick twist of fate. Fate knew that these dangerous creatures would appear and gave humans the power to fight back. The world seemed to turn into a fight for survival and humans did just that. With the Hunters harnessing crazy powers, the Vampire threat came to a halt for a few years.
Peace seemed to spread and gave Humans a time of calm. Izuku Midoriya is now a young 15-year-old boy and continued on trying to achieve his life-long goal: Become the Number 1 Hunter. He spent years upon years observing other Hunters do what they do best. Even though the sweet, innocent boy was born quirkless, that didn't deter him and his determination still thrived.
As the boy sat quietly in the back of his middle school classroom, his mind traveled to the recent sighting of All Might. The man was battling hard against a vampiric threat and still showed an unwavering smile on his lips. Izuku couldn't help but admire the man’s strength. As his mind drifted from his schoolwork, the hours spent in the school building seemed to be coming to a close quickly. Suddenly Izuku was brought out of his mindscape by the flutter of papers around the classroom. The teacher had thrown a collection of papers into the air and said something that made the rest of the class go wild. It took a minute for the children to settle, but once they did the teacher continue to speak about high school.
“Teach! Don’t go lumping us all in the same group,” a boy by the name of Katsuki Bakugo said with slight aggression. All the students turned their angry stares onto a young male with ashy blonde hair, blood-red eyes, and arrogant expression. The teacher then looked at a pile of papers with a slight board look. “Oh, if I remember correctly, you want to go to U.A. High, right, Bakugo?” the teacher asked. This only seemed to fuel the boy’s already large ego as the class gasped and looked on in surprise. Izuku couldn't help but feel a little scared for one big reason so he tucked his head into his arms and laid his face down on the desktop.
Bakugo then jumped onto his desk with confidence. “I aced the mock test. I'm the only one at this school who could possibly get into U.A. I’ll definitely surpass All Might and become the top Hunter! My name’ll be inscribed on the list of top earners!!!” Bakugo screamed aggressively while fist punching the air.
“Oh yeah, Midoriya wanted to go to U.A., too, right?”
The words spoken by the middle-aged man that stood in front of the classroom made Izuku’s blood run cold. Bakugo froze as anger coursed through his whole body. Suddenly the deafening course of laughter rang out as all the other students seemed to find humor in Izuku’s dreams. Accompanied by said laughter was the raging voice of Katsuki Bakugo. “DEKU!!!” the blonde teen yelled with fury as he launched over to where Izuku sat, using the power of explosions that Bakugo was granted, he launched Izuku’s frail body into the wall at the back of the classroom. Izuku continued to push his body into the wall in hopes of suddenly becoming too small to see.
Bakugo continued to belittle the young boy as he exclaimed his hatred for the young boy’s dreams. But Izuku tried to focus on getting away from the angsty teen alive rather than the words of hatred that spewed out of Bakugo’s mouth. Eventually, the teacher took charge and forced the explosive blonde back to his seat and continued on with class until the dismissive bell released the many kids. Izuku hoped on making his way out of the classroom but that was stopped when two so-called friends of Bakugo cornered the small teen with the blonde himself leading.
Bakugo suddenly snatched the journal that Izuku used to write notes on Hunters in out of Izuku’s hands and began to wave it slightly. “I don’t know what you think you’re doing Deku, but we aren’t done,” Bakugo said with a scowl. One of the blonde’s lackeys stalked up behind the boy and asked if the journal Bakugo had in his hand was Izuku’s diary with a small laugh. Once reading the title of the small blue journal, the two other boys began to laugh at the thought of small Izuku Midoriya taking notes on how to be a Hunter. They clearly had little to no faith in Izuku. While the two other boys laughed, Izuku tried to convince the small group to hand the book back over but stopped in his efforts once he saw Bakugo’s fiery fist collides with the papers.
Izuku was even more mortified by Bakugo carelessly tossing the small journal out the classroom window. “ Most promising Hunters so potential early on, People look at them and just know that they are destined for greatness,” Bakugo began with a calm expression for once, “when I’m the only student from this garbage junior high, People’ll start talking about me that way. They’ll realize that I’m legit, the next big thing. That’s not ego talking. I just know I'm good.” Bakugo concluded with a smirk but no one believed him about the ego thing.
Next, Bakugo grabbed Izuku’s shoulder and let his quirk activate a little, letting smoke come from in between his fingers. Izuku could feel the heat through his uniform. “Here’s a little word of advice, nerd,” Bakugo began, “don’t even think about applying. Or else.” To say the least, Izuku was shocked at the boy’s behavior. Bakugo really didn’t seem to enjoy the idea of Izuku being on the same level as him. Then the group of boys walked out of the vacant classroom, but not without the last word.
“Y’know, if you really want to be a Hunter that badly, there actually might be a way,” Bakugo said as he stopped at the classroom’s door, “just hope you are born with a quirk in your next life. Then take a swan dive off the roof of the building!” That comment made Izuku’s blood boil as he turned around the talk about, but the sight of small explosions seemed to kill his confidence real quick.
