Chapter 3 - Vampires Aren't Real
Dan's POV
It was early in the morning that I got the call. Cynthia had been sent to a hospital while walking down our street this morning. She was hit by a drunk driver. She was probably going to the coffee shop to hear more stories of the vampire, but some drunk asshole got in her way.
I sulked in worry in my house alone. I couldn't go and visit her. The only hospital around was the next town over. No way I could walk there, and I didn't have a car. I could only hope she was alright.
I got up finally and walked myself over for a coffee, hoping it would take my mind off her.
"And then it happened! It bit the poor girl!" a man foretold. He was telling a vampire story in relation to CC, I knew. "And she's in the hospital right now. My bet is she'll die."
People "oohed," and "ahhed," at his tale.
"What are you talking about?" I asked. "The girl who was sent to the hospital this morning? She was hit by a car, not bit by a freaking vampire."
"Boy," he told me. "Bless your innocence. We all hope the girl is ok, but we know what happens by a vampire's bite, I'm afraid."
I shook my head, unwilling to listen to his stupid legends anymore. Everything would be ok when she came home and told them the truth. I ordered a coffee to go.
Bored and alone, I spent my day inside on the internet. There wasn't much to do alone in a small town like ours, so mindlessly browsing the web always seemed to occupy a good amount of time. Pretty soon, my lazy day turned into night, and - being a night owl - I barely noticed until I peered out my window. It was around midnight, so there wasn't much to see but the woods in front of my small house.
I thought about Cynthia. I hoped she was ok. Maybe it wasn't that bad and she'd be home by tomorrow. She was my best friend in the town. I didn't know what I'd do without her. I decided not to think about it. I put away my laptop and stared out the window from the sofa until falling asleep.

I woke up from discomfort a few hours later with my body still facing the window. I rubbed my eyes open. It was still dark, and I was still tired. Outside, I noticed a slight movement. I froze and just watched. I saw the silhouette of a body in the moonlight. Who would be out at this hour?
I kept watching, thinking it must be a dream. The shadow turned around in my direction and looked at me. It looked at me! With eyes! Do shadows have eyes? Two large, glowing circles of bright blue stared at me from the shadow, not breaking it's gaze. Should I look away? I thought. Should I wait for it to look away first? I blinked a few times, and it was gone. It went away. I got closer to the window to look out again. I opened it and stuck my head out into the warm night.
"Hello?" I called.
No answer. The entire woods seemed to have frozen still. It was too quiet.
I quickly shut the window and locked it. It's only a dream, I thought. There isn't anything in the woods. It's just my tired mind.
Being tired, I undressed from my jeans and fell into my bed, hoping to not have to continue that ominous vision.
"Vampires aren't real," I tell myself. "They just aren't."
Phil's POV
That was awkward.
Someone from a small house... he was watching me. He didn't look away from me. He just... stared. Was he afraid of me? Did he want to kill me? I couldn't simply look away. I've been in the habit of remaining still. The second he blinked, I ran for it.
I ran as fast as I could into the dark cave I've resided in. I peered out, but there wasn't anyone chasing me. I was safe.
That face... who was he? I could barely see, but he had a rather handsome face. I smiled to myself. It felt nice to have human emotion.
I peaked out of the cave again. I slowly walked out and over to the same house. The lights were out.
What am I doing? I thought. I knew he'd either kill me or just be afraid. Why bother? I lost my smile, and turned away, and back to the cave.
"Maybe he doesn't like vampire boys," I whispered to myself. "Or vampires. Or boys." I laughed quietly. "Nobody likes vampires."
After getting over the ridiculous encounter with the human, I went back to the lake, and lazily laid back against a tree again.
