Dan's POV

I took Phil home, and let him sleep in my bed again. This time, he wasn't alone. We didn't do anything but cuddle. He was so loving, and could barely believe his freedom of an eternal curse. He just wanted rest, and frankly, so did I.

I took him into the coffee shop the next morning. "It's been so long since I've had a coffee," he whispered to me. The staring began as soon as I walked in, hand in hand with Phil. He didn't let me let go of him. I knew he wanted me to except myself.

"Hey everyone," I said, hoping they'd direct their attention away from me. "Great news. Thanks for the warning about the kidnapping by the way. You're all so nice," I said with sarcasm. "Anyway, I found out everything about the vampire. Want to hear the real story of what happened?"

"Dan," Phil whispered to me, shaking his head subtly.

"It turns out," I announced to the interested group of people, "that the entire time, there was no vampire at all!"

They gasped. "What?" "No vampire?" "But what was it I saw?" Phil looked just as confused.

"Nope, it turns out you were all freaking out about nothing. What you saw was just him," I say, pointing to Phil.

"Me?"

"Yeah! Sorry for the scare everyone. This is Phil. He and I take walks together at night, so you might have seen him and thought he was a vampire! You people are so weird. He's my friend from out of town."

He nudged me, and held my hand tighter, appearing to catch on.

"Not friend," I restated. "Boyfriend."

He smiled to me.

"Oh, that's cool," one guy said. "Nice to meet you, Phil. Sorry about the assumption thing."

People began to talk to him, and he seemed so happy to have the attention. I adored his proud little smile.

Phil's POV

"Phil, do you like our little town?" someone asked.

"Yes," I answered. "It's very nice."

"Are you staying long?" another added.

"Probably, if Dan does."

"He's kinda cute," a girl said. A group of people around me were all trying to talk to me at once. Dan heard one of the girls call me cute, and turned to her.

"Well, he may be cute, but he's mine," he told her with a smile.

"Sorry," she giggled. "That's adorable."

Dan cutely became a bit frustrated. "Is anyone even paying attention?" he said forcefully. "I'm gay, ok? There, I came out!"

They looked at him. "Dan," the girl said again. "We know. We like, all know."

"What do you mean you all know?! Not one of you thought I was the least bit straight?"

One guy shook his head and looked around. "No, not really, and it doesn't matter anyway, so...."

"Wow, thanks guys. Just, wow."

I found myself giggling crazily by his side. I ensured he wouldn't let go of my hand. I wanted him to feel like himself with another boy, but also to remind him of what he did for me and how he saved me. Cynthia came in a bit later after a while of mingling.

"Phil?" she gasped, and looked at my face. "Your teeth!" she whispered. "What happened?"

"I'm mortal now. I can explain later," I told her. "Long story, but it's thanks to Dan."

She nodded, and played along quietly. "You look great as a human," she praised.

"Thank you."

"Well, no vampires," a man sighed. "Too bad."

Another man came in shortly, sweaty and frenzied. "I saw them! Oh, I saw them!"

"Saw who?" the waitress asked concerned, drawing attention.

"The werewolves! In the hills! I saw them!"

"Werewolves?" "Oh goodness! Hide the children!" "Get your guns, boys. We've got some wolves to hunt!" People began to stir, and the man began to tell us about his encounter.

"So there I was, minding my own business, and there was a beautiful woman, just sitting there. Naturally, I went to talk to her and ask what she was doing, but she grew ugly fur and fangs, and the body of a wolf, and ran off! It wasn't long 'til I found the rest of the werewolf pack."

The crowed gasped at his tales. Cynthia elbowed Dan. "Yes!" she whispered. "Oh please, tell us more!"

As the man continued, Dan turned to me. "Phil, are werewolves real? I mean, I didn't believe in vampires, but that kinda changed."

"Of course not," I laughed. "Werewolves are a myth."

"Thank God," he relaxed. "I'm done with fairy tales, I'm going out." He got up to leave, and I followed, waving goodbye to everyone. It felt so good to have people like me. Cynthia followed us.

"So," she chimed, "when are we going out to the hills?"

"Oh, no no no," Dan laughed at her. "No."

"Why not? You got a cute vampire boyfriend! Why can't I go out and search for a cute werewolf boyfriend? Or girlfriend?"

His eyes got wide to her. "CC, is there something you haven't told me?"

She flicked her hand at him. "That's a story for another day."

"Well, we still aren't going out," he told her. "What do we look like? The gang from Scooby Doo? Going around and solving mysteries?"

I laughed, and Dan pulled me closer.

"I've got all I need."

We walked home, and it grew dark within a few hours. Dan stayed up with me as we tried to fix our internal clocks to be awake in the day time, instead of at night.

"You look amazing," he said.

"I do?"

"Well you did before. I never thought it could get better."

I felt myself blush a bit. "You're beautiful."

He grinned, and pulled me in for a kiss. He held my body close to him, so I could feel his warmth and beating heart. He was a wonderful kisser.

As if to interrupt us, a sound echoed in the night: a howl. A loud, vicious howl. We stopped kissing and looked at each other, as it roared again.

"Werewolves?"

"Werewolves."

"Well, I'm done. Goodnight, Phil."

"Right behind you." I followed him to his room, cuddling up close on the bed. "I love you," I whispered.

"I love you too." He kissed my neck, and I could feel his soft breaths puffing air on me. He fell asleep, and I did too. Warm, alive, and in someone's loving arms.
