chapter 7
Y/n heads to Tai's house. Y/n sneaks inside and hides in a corner. The dim light in that corner with his dark clothes should hide him.
Y/n watches Tai walk down the stairs and soon after Ruby enters.
Ruby: Dad!
Tai: Hey Rubes. I've been expecting you.
Ruby: I know.
Tai: I know things too. Like why you are here.
Ruby looks around for a minute.
Ruby: Dad...are you...really my dad?
Tai sighs.
Tai: No. And there is no point in me lying to you about it. You already know the truth, from what Ozpin told me.
Ruby: Then, is Y/n L/n my dad?
Tai: Why don't you ask him yourself. I know that you are there, Y/n.
Y/n steps out of the shadows, surprising Ruby.
Y/n: You knew?
Tai: Oh please. Spend years playing the same game of spot the Y/n, you get good at it.
Y/n: I...see.
Ruby approaches Y/n. Y/n looks away from her in shame.
Ruby: You...are my dad?
Y/n looks at her.
Y/n: I'm sorry. I asked Tai to look after you for me. I...couldn't.
Tai: Well, she made it this far. Might as well not leave anything out.
Y/n nods.
Y/n: Ruby, you and I share blood. But the part that makes you a vampire, lays dormant. It was a blessing, to keep you from being hunted for what you are.
Ruby: I...see.
Ruby looks at the ground.
Ruby: Was...mom a vampire too?
Y/n: No. She wasn't. She was a human.
Ruby: Will you answer all my questions?
Y/n: I will. The time for lies has ended. Come, walk with me.
Ruby: Don't vampire's hate the sun?
Y/n: Most do. But some can still walk in it.
Y/n and Ruby walk outside and walk into the woods.
Y/n: The world as you know it will be shattered. There are many creatures that are not myths.
Ruby: So. If I am a vampire, why don't I need to drink blood?
Y/n: My theory is that the vampirism is locked inside of you. It is probably unlocked by the consumption of blood.
Ruby: That sounds easy enough.
Y/n: To avoid. Which you will do, at all costs. I know about the cave, Ruby.
Ruby: Oh. Well then what do you think the other one was?
Y/n: The one with silver clothes?
Ruby: And the glowing eyes.
Y/n: I don't know. That would be whatever gift you got from your mother. Probably you unlocking her abilities, not mine.
Ruby: But couldn't I just do both?
Y/n: That...I do not know. However, do not ask to be a vampire. You will find that road lonely.
Ruby: You seem to be okay.
Y/n: I wasn't always okay. You have been my reason to live all these years.
Ruby: So...what did you do before all this then? How did you survive?
Y/n: Like any other. I fed on blood. I limited myself to only those that choose to do bad things to others. That was before the substitutes, when vampires were driven into even more seclusion than before.
Ruby: Did you cause that?
Y/n: Yes, I am to blame.
Ruby: That must've been hard for you, right?
Y/n: You think I feel bad?
Ruby: Maybe?
Y/n: No. I don't. Vampires are horrible monsters that feel no empathy for their actions. Born with hatred and narcissism in their hearts, from the minute they get their curse!
Ruby: Then what happened to you? Why do you, hate them? Did they...kill mom?
Y/n: No. I do not know who exactly killed Summer. If I did, I would've already taken their head.
Ruby: Did they kill someone else then?
Y/n: Yes. A very long time ago, before even your great grandparents were born. Probably a millennia or two ago.
The two make it to a hill overlooking a lish field.
Y/n: I've come to appreciate the beauty of nature. The trees, the grass, even the animals that call it home.
Y/n sits down and Ruby joins him.
Y/n: You really want to know?
Ruby: Yeah.
Y/n: I used to know a child, a kind soul that never sought harm to anything. At the time it was a very rare thing. He took great care for even the smallest bug. However at the time I had some allies who weren't fond of humans.
Ruby: I'm guessing that started a problem?
Y/n: Yes.
Y/n looks at his hands.
Y/n: I stopped caring for humanity for so long, I forgot what it was like. Until that little boy reminded me of how it is to be human.
