The Ball (Niklaus Mikaelson)

I put all the stuff on and sat on my bed. I was pondering to see if I should call Elena. I know our plan, and it involved killing Niklaus. I don't want him to die. I dialed Elena's number.

"Hello?"

"Elena?"

"Is everything alright?"

"Not really."

"What is it?"

"I'm going to the ball."

"You are? I thought you were against this whole plan."

"Not anymore. I want to help."

"Ok."

"I can be a good decoy for Klaus,"

"Good idea."

"Yeah."

"Hey,"

"Yeah?"

"Listen, I know you may think Klaus is a good guy. He's not. If you need some help or someone to talk to, I'm here."

"I know."

I hung up and grabbed the keys to my car.

***

I took a deep breath before exiting my car. I shut the door and entered the building. It was a mansion. Elena was talking to the Salvatores that were drooling all over her, like usual.

I went to where Caroline and Matt were. They were talking to each other.

"Matt?" I said. "Who invited you?"

"Rebekah." He said.

"Ok so, you don't give him any crap about going with Rebekah but you basically scold me for going with Klaus?"

"Look-" Caroline started.

"Don't." I cut her off.

I walked away. I happen to run into Klaus, literally.

"Oh, I'm so sorry."

"Don't be, love. I'm fine."

I was really close to him. So close I could feel his heart beat.

"Well, I should go check in on Elena." I smiled nervously and walked around him.

I know Klaus' eyes followed me and watched me as I checked in on Elena.

"Plan is officially in progress once I can get to their mother. I know what she wants." Elena said.

"Good luck, Elena." I said.

"Are you ok?"

"I . . ." I collected my thoughts. "I'll be fine."

She smiled: "Ok."

All the Mikaelsons gathered on the staircase. Elijah got everyone's attention and welcomed everyone to the ball.

"Join us in the ballroom!" He raised his glass.

The whole time Klaus was staring at me. I know he was because I saw him in my peripheral vision.

I walked to the ballroom. My heart was beating out of my chest. I am so scared he hears it. I felt his hand on my back.

"Calm yourself, love."

Elena was looking at me, I had to do something. I stepped away from him and walked away from the ballroom. Klaus speeded in front of me.

"Perhaps we should go somewhere else."

"So you can turn me? No thanks,"

I tried to walk around him but he blocked me.

"Trust me, love."

"Once chance. I'm on vervain for the heads up."

"You don't need it with me. You don't have to be afraid of me, darling." He said.

He held his hand out and I reluctantly took it.

He showed me into a room full of paintings.

"Oh my god! They are beautiful. Did you do them?"

"I did."

He walked to me and put his hand on my back again. I remembered what Elena said and I stepped away.

"Why are you afraid?" He asked.

"Why do you assume? I'm not afraid."

"I can hear your heart, darling. It's not exactly at a steady pace."

"Ok fine. I'm scared. But can you blame me? I hate parties. Elegant parties. It's not my scene. I'm pretty much scolded for seeing you at all. Even though Elena's boyfriend is a flippin ripper. And I'm standing in the same room as a 1000 year old hybrid that started vampires! SO yeah, I'm scared!"

Klaus laid his hands on my face and leaned into me. He leaned in for a kiss. I gave him one, but a short one.

"Klaus, I can't."

"Ok, love. No rush."

He stepped back.

"No I can't. I really can't. Ever."

"Come on, darling." He tried to make me smile by smiling.

"No, Klaus. You're my enemy. I can't get that confused."

"Sounds like Elena talking."

I turned around, but didn't walk away. I couldn't.

"You can't resist me, love."

"Yes I can."

"But . . ."

"I don't want to."

He sped in front of me.

"I knew it."

"Listen to me, Klaus," I stared him deep in the eyes. "This won't work. I'm human and you're a thousand year old hybrid. I will die in roughly 60 years. You'll live on forever. You're a badass. I am an innocent little annoying girl. Why?"

"I fancy you, love. I love the innocence. The light to my darkness."

"I can't."

I rushed out and went outside on the balcony. I heard someone come from behind me. It was Caroline.

"Hey."

"What do you want?" I said wiping a few tears.

"I want to apologize. I don't mean to make you feel like you have to choose people we approve. Who knows? Maybe Klaus is not as bad as we think. All I know is that he hurt us. We are just trying to protect you." She said.

"You're forgiven. And I don't think you'll have to worry anyway. He's going to die tonight. Along with all the other Mikaelsons. No one deserves to die, Caroline. Not even Klaus. We should give him another chance."

"That's sweet, Y/n. But even if we wanted to, there's nothing we can do to stop them."

I looked down until I came up with a plan.

"Unless there is." My eyes lit up.

"I'm not following,"

"We can talk to Elijah and get him to help us. Maybe he can help us keep his brother in order if we help him."

"Ok, so we save their lives and in return, they keep Klaus under control?"

"Yeah."

"Y/n, I don't know,"

"Trust me, please."

"Ok." She reluctantly agreed. "I'll go get Elijah."

I waited patiently as she went to go get Elijah. A few minutes later, they appeared on the balcony.

"Elijah,"

"Yes? I was told you needed to talk to me."

"Listen to me, Elijah. Your family is in danger."

I told him our entire plan plus the new plan including the deal.

"I'm all for helping save my family, but I don't know if I can keep my brother under control."

"I can help."

"I don't think you know how out of control my brother can get."

"I have an idea. Just please."

"We can give it a try."

"I give you my word I'll help in any way I can."

"I'll keep that in mind." He said as he walked off.

I stayed on the balcony as Caroline left as well. I took a deep breath of fresh air.

"Did you get your fresh air, love?"

"Klaus,"

He came and stood next to me.

"Troubled, sweetheart?"

"I was just busy saving your ass." I turned to him. "You owe me."
