Imagine Elijah proposing to you
Let's face it. There was nothing better in the world than being Elijah Mikaelson's girlfriend. He was no doubt the sweetest, greatest, sexiest man alive, always and forever taking care of his loved ones and being number one on that list meant nothing but good for you. Sure, being so close and important to an Original vampire meant danger and trouble sometimes, but you were never too seriously damaged or threatened, all thanks to your sweet boyfriend and his family that had grown fond of you, and also felt the need to protect the one thing their brother had finally let himself love.
You were a lucky girl in all kinds of ways. You were dating the most handsome, classy Mikaelson sibling, and the rest of his family loved you like a sister and a best friend, and your closest friends were not only the Mikaelsons, but also the Salvatores, the Gilberts, Caroline, Bonnie, Tyler, Matt - the best of Mystic Falls, really. Still, your life felt like it needed something more. You felt like there was something you needed to reach utter bliss, something to perfect it all.
And you knew what it was.
Every night you and Elijah fell asleep in each other's arms, enjoying the warmth and love, after either watching a movie, or eating a neat, delicious dinner, or just plain cuddling by the fireside. Every day, you kissed each other, hugged each other, held hands and it was clear to everyone, how you were deeply in love. But still, Elijah wouldn't ask you to marry him.
He wouldn't propose to you. And you felt like you hadn't done enough, like somehow it was your fault and it hurt you deeply. What was missing? What would you have to do to get Elijah down on one knee, with a velvet box in his hands?
Your friends had noticed how you were missing the big step, and how Elijah didn't seem to pick up the clues you left him on a silver plate. On a daily basis you would comment pretty rings you saw on a magazine or point out how wedding dresses were on sale, or look at wedding related TV shows adoringly, but Elijah was either too dumb, or too unwilling to notice. And you knew Elijah wasn't a stupid man, so you were certain he just did not want to marry you.
So was he ready to let go of you, did he know that whatever you had, wasn't forever? Forever was a long time for vampires, but you were ready to vow to spend it with him. You were in love with Elijah and you wanted him to be entirely yours, but it seemed he didn't feel the same way.
His family had started to leave him hints, too. They knew you wanted marriage, and especially with him, and they agreed that Elijah could use something permanent, something that would always provide him joy and happiness even after a long day of ripping out hearts and tearing off heads. They all loved you, and they knew that if there was anyone that their brother should marry, it was you.
"'Lijah, look at this absolutely stunning dress! Don't you think it would look lovely on your Y/N?", Rebekah asked on one day, and put her finger on a white, dreamy dress and pushed the magazine to Elijah's lap, to make sure he'd see. Elijah lifted an eyebrow, and looked at Rebekah who was smiling innocently.
"Bekah, that is a wedding dress, you must realize", Elijah smiled wildly, and earned a chuckle from Klaus who was sitting beside you on another couch in their living room. You looked at Nik, and smiled at him, and he returned the gesture while the two of you kept on listening the conversation Rebekah kept up.
"Oh my, look at that, you're right. It is a wedding dress. So, when are you to wed the lovely girl here?", she continued and glanced at you. Elijah looked at you as well, and you blushed, and looked down to avoid eye contact with him. You were shy about this subject, although you wanted it, you had been talking about marriage for several weeks now, yet it didn't seem like he was interested at all.
And now, Rebekah had decided to take matters to her own hands and deal with the situation the proper way, until you would be standing at the altar with a suited up Elijah to the point where he'd be given the permission to kiss his lovely bride.
But Elijah only shrugged, and returned to his book, receiving groans and sighs from you all, but as you looked away, he broke into a smile. A wild, honest smile, a loving one too, and his heart ached as he felt the box in his pocket touching his thigh through the fabric.

Hours later, when you were getting ready for bed, you heard Elijah turn off the shower. You had suggested joining him, but he had turned down your offer and it made you feel bad. First he avoids talk of marriage and now he doesn't want you naked with him. You had a bad feeling, a really bad, and you nearly cried whenever you looked at him. Were the two of you losing the spark?
When Elijah finally came out of the bathroom, his hair wet and disheveled and his perfect body slightly moist while his white towel hung around his shoulder, you fought the urge to look at him, kiss him and touch him, and just looked away and ignored the sexy sight. He walked from the doorway to the bed, where you were and leaned down for a kiss but you perfectly avoided his lips and put away your book and turned off the lamp on your nightstand, leaving his mouth in contact with only air.
Elijah raised an eyebrow and gave you that look he always did when you, or anyone, was upset. He looked at you deeply judging and reviewing to figure out what was bothering his love, but you hated his eyes boring into you so you threw out your arms and pushed him away from you in frustration.
"So something has in fact made you upset? What is it, my dear?", Elijah asked and crossed his arms in front of muscular upper body, making you bite your lip but so much in anger it ended up bleeding. His look tightened as he watched your mouth bleed and your eyes to fill up with tears - he hated to see you so sad and angry, he wanted nothing but happiness for you. What he couldn't see, was that he did this. He was behind your unhappiness and frustration.
"You! Elijah! You have made me upset! Why don't you want to marry me? What do I have to do to make you propose to me? Do you even love me anymore? Because it's strongly starting to feel like you don't. Like I'm just another person you'll shut out. You have a serious problem Elijah, and that's you not allowing yourself to be happy. You always put Nik and Bekah before you but you shouldn't. You should concentrate on yourself for once, and do what would make you satisfied and give you joy and delight each and every day", you yelled, feeling the truth flow through you and out in the air for Elijah to hear, causing him to take a step back, feeling the sudden rage in you come to him. He had never seen you this way, so furious yet so fragile and vulnerable. So emotional and truly hurt.
"Or maybe the problem is in me, then", you chuckled sadly and looked down as tears fell on the white bed sheets, "Maybe you want to get married one day, but not with me. Maybe I'm not the one for you? Is that it, 'Lijah? Am I not the right one for you? Am I just some girl you date until you've used me to my end like some lousy rag?!", you shouted, sadness changing into bubbling anger once again, startling Elijah who bit his lower lip harshly and ran his hands along his face.
"No", he said tightly, and grabbed your wrists to stop you from throwing them around, possibly aiming to hit him. "No, the problem is not you, Y/N. I love you, I truly, madly, very deeply do and it hurts me to know that you would think otherwise. I have never loved anyone like I love you and I know I never will", Elijah spoke and pulled you to the edge of the bed as he himself went on one of his knees on the floor. Before you could have time to ask more questions and squeeze out the answer why he wouldn't propose to you, he continued.
"This is most definitely not how I planned this, but it appears you and I both have waited long enough... You, especially", Elijah muttered and chuckled, "Y/N Y/LN, I'm in love with you in the most beautiful, amazing, breath-taking way and I want to be with you each and every day to tell you that. To remind how and why I love you. You're marvelous, you're gorgeous and your personality sometimes can get on my nerves but I only love you more because of your quirks and flaws. Those are what make you perfect to me, Y/N", Elijah explained, his eyes slowly filling with tears as his fingers fiddled with the pocket of his pants that were on the floor.
"I wish to be with you forever, which I am aware is a long time for us vampires, but I do mean it and I know you feel the same way, which is why I have only one more thing to say. A question, a very important question, and I think I already know your answer, but I would love nothing more than hearing you say it", Elijah continued, dragging his speech, which was a very beautiful one, but the excitement was killing you and you couldn't help but squeal when he asked the big question.
"Y/N, will you marry me?", Elijah asked, a smile tugging on his lips and making you giggle and nod your head in tears. He showed you the box which held a beautiful, shiny ring inside and you nodded your head more and more.
"Yes, yes, yes!", you answered, multiple times and jumped to his arms, causing him to fall on his back and you on top of him. You kissed his lips sweetly and smiled as you felt him slip the ring on your finger. You had never felt so happy.
After all he did love you, just like he had always loved and always would. Always and forever, like he had promised.
