Imagine your water breaking and Kol's reaction to it
Being pregnant was not as lovely and easy as you initially thought. You had lived in the belief that, despite the fact that you did indeed have a baby growing inside of you, being pregnant would be more or less fun. People showering you with affection and care, feeling the baby kick, talking to it and eating lots of good food to satisfy your cravings. But, whilst it did have plenty of positive sides too, it was mostly hell.
Your back ached all the time, and so did the rest of your body, and you were moody and grumpy all the time - except when you were incredibly emotional or needy in all kinds of ways. You actually kind of intimidated Kol, and everyone else too, and he had told Klaus that he had never faced a threat as big as a pregnant woman, especially a pregnant Y/N. But, he dealt with it, because he loved you, and it was the least he could do, really.
You were happy that you were going to have a child, sure, but it was a painful, complicated road down to the final destination. But your amazing fiancé - yes, Kol had proposed - made it easier for you, and when you felt like crap, he could always make you smile. Those kind of moments reminded you how being pregnant was totally worth it, including the aching all over your body and the mood swings and the weird cravings in the middle of the night.
The latter had become a habit, actually. You refused to eat when Kol cooked for you, not because you didn't appreciate him doing that for you, but because you knew that each bite just made you more and more sick, and whenever you tried to eat something, it ended up with you bent over the toilet to throw up everything you had consumed. The constant sickness made things harder for you, and the baby seemed to prefer ungodly hours, which led into you waking up in the middle of the night in immense hunger.
"Kol", you mumbled once again in the dark bedroom and bit on your lower lip while a guilty feeling kept on panging on your heart. You didn't want to bother Kol like this, but you couldn't help it. But the Original was used to you waking up nearly every night with a rather strange request in mind, so he opened his eyes quickly and smiled carefully at you. "I'm sorry-- I swear I'm not trying to annoy you, but I'm really hungry", you muttered, and looked down as you cheeks turned pink, and Kol sighed fondly.
He flipped the lamp on the nightstand on, and the room was filled with light which made you squint your eyes as you looked back up. Kol offered you a faint smile, and placed a soft kiss on your forehead while shaking his head, promising it was perfectly fine - whatever he needed to do to keep you happy and to make the pregnancy better for you, he'd do it.
"What would you like tonight, darling?", Kol asked as he got up from the bed, and pulled on a pair of sweatpants and a tight t-shirt which made you lick your lips swiftly. The sight was pleasing, but it reminded you that you had to get dressed yourself, so you tossed the sheets aside and got up to put on some clothes, with Kol's help of course. It wasn't easy to get dressed with a pregnancy belly in the way of everything.
"Fries and ice cream", you replied, knowing exactly it was what you wanted. "I don't know why", you added with a sheepish smile tugging up your lips, and Kol laughed lightly while draping his arm around your waist and walking you out of the bedroom and to the front door where he put a jacket over your shoulders. You put on some shoes, and as soon as Kol had grabbed his wallet and keys, you were ready to head out.
It was chilly, but it was the relief you needed because of your hot skin. The nights were the worst, and you usually struggled to sleep, but you suspected the baby would be ready to pop out soon enough, so you tried your best to live with it. With Kol's assistance, you got yourself seated in the front, and while your betrothed sat down next to you and started the car, you eyed the shiny ring on your finger and twirled it around quietly. You couldn't help but smile, you were truly happy, but at times like these, you inevitably felt like a liability.
You couldn't wait for the baby to be born, and you felt like Kol strongly agreed with you.
Kol turned on the radio as he began driving towards the nearest McDonalds, and the USB drive attached to the radio started to play the familiar rock songs you had went through at least three times now. It was a gift from Damon to celebrate not only your pregnancy, but your engagement, and you loved it - it had been playing on repeat ever since you got it, and you and Kol liked to sing together, but not now. You were tired, and upset, and goddamnit, so hungry.
"Love, something wrong?", Kol was the one to break the silence that had fallen on you, excluding the remastered version of The Show Must Go On, and as much as you wanted to shake your head, you just had to nod. You had learned that bottling up your feelings wasn't smart, and the best option was to pour out your heart, especially when you had Kol who was more than willing, and in a way, obligated to do so. He was your soon-to-be husband, and you could tell him everything and anything, which was why you decided to be brave and tell him how terrible you felt because of waking him up every night.
"Yeah, I--I just... I don't want to be a pain in the ass but that's what I feel like. Like a liability. Being pregnant has made me so annoying, and I'm sorry", you sighed, and Kol turned down the Metallica song that just started to blast from the speakers, giving you a comforting look while he approached the McDonalds nearby. He slowed down when he had driven to the end of the line that led to the drive-thru window, and dropped his hand from the wheel to place it on top of yours.
"Hardly, Y/N. You should not worry. You are carrying a child, our child, and I am more than grateful. You have stayed so strong so well, and the least I can do, is take you to McDonalds at three AM. I love you, and I promise you are not a liability, so please don't feel that way", Kol smiled, kissing your fingers softly when he had brought them up to his pink lips. You smiled, and nodded your head, promising to stop worrying, and leaned back in your seat as Kol turned to face the moving line. While you held his hand, and thought about his words, he ordered some ice cream and fries for you, just like you had wished.
It was true that Kol was an amazing person, even if most people failed to see that. Underneath the tough cover he was like a puppy, fluffy and cuddly. And he was all yours.
Soon you were already in the parking lot, eating inside the car, listening to music and laughing at funny jokes you told each other. The worries had been long forgotten, and you no longer felt like an irritating bitch, which was only one more reason to smile and be happy. You didn't know how you ever got so lucky to find yourself eating french fries with a hot guy in his car, and once in a while making out intensely while epic rock songs played on the background.
"I-- Woah", you grunted, and held your stomach when a wave of pain and uncertainty washed over you. Your lips parted, and you gasped, leaning over as your hand struggled to open the door of the car, but eventually you stumbled out and alerted Kol who immediately rushed to your side. "I think-- I think my water just broke", you stammered, giving Kol a scared look, but at the same time, you felt excited. It was really happening now, and it made you smile weakly, while Kol froze to the spot.
"What are you waiting for?", you asked, nodding towards the car so he'd help you in and drive to the hospital, but instead, Kol just stood there with shock in his eyes and his lips as a straight line. He was impossible to read, but apparently he was more than just surprised, and unbelievably, incredibly, unprepared for the situation. You groaned, and pushed him with your elbow, calling out his name to make him snap out of his shock.
"Kol! I need to get to the hospital!", you screamed, and finally, realization dawned on the Mikaelson, and he guided you inside the car. He sat behind the wheel, and threw the food out before starting the car and driving towards the hospital. His eyes glanced at you once in a while, as you tried to breathe, but you were in pain and all you could do was groan, moan and squeeze your eyes shut. You whimpered on the seat, and the only solution Kol found was turning up the volume of the music.
"What the bloody hell are you doing?", you asked, and glared at your fiancé who was literally shaking as he drove.
"I don't know what to do! Concentrate on the music, try to breathe, Y/N please control the situation because I can't", he panicked, giving you a fearful look and you still, in pain and about to give birth, managed to roll your eyes. But you did as he asked you to, and listened to the music, inhaled and exhaled steadily along the beat and sang along the lyrics in your mind, which actually helped. You told Kol to drive faster, which he did, and while holding your belly and listening to the song playing from the speakers, you actually smiled.
You were about to give birth, to your and Kol's child, and even if the man who was about to be a husband and a father was a total mess, you were happy he was there. Your hand went to take this, and you squeezed it tightly while trying to catch your breath and concentrate on being okay.
And it was going to be okay, really. More than just okay. Everything was going to be perfect.
