Imagine working in the same place with Jeremy and him always helping you because you're new

You had successfully gotten a job from a nursing home, and you couldn't be happier. It was only a summer job though, and you would work there for one month only but you were still happy. You were up for a bunch of money, at least, so it was all good. And the job wasn't too rough on you, you worked seven hours in one day or sometimes even less, and you didn't have to do much. Do the dishes, take out the trash, clean up the rooms, hang the laundry outside and fill the washing machines when necessary. It was all just small tasks, and you loved it.

Especially when there was a hot young man working in the same section with you. Jeremy Gilbert, he was like a dream, like from a movie and you couldn't deny the tingle in your stomach whenever you looked at him. He was sexy as all hell, and charming, too. He was always helping you, because he had been working there for one year now and he felt the need to instruct you. And damn, you certainly did not mind.

He seemed like a nice guy, and not only to you, but he treated the oldsters in the nursing home like every one of them was a relative of his. Jeremy was a precious human being, so kind and loving you felt like your heart was going to burst one of these days. Working with him seemed like a privilege, honestly.

On a sunny Thursday morning, you were planning on taking out some wet laundry and hanging them up. It was warm outside, so they would dry up quickly, you were sure of it. You were carrying a big plastic basket, full of clothes and bed sheets and it weighed like hell. You spotted the door closing, after someone had sneaked out, and you immediately started to scream because you knew for sure that you wouldn't get the door open by yourself, with your hands full and all.

"Hold the door!", you squealed, as loudly as was appropriate around old people but nevertheless, no one did as you wished and the door shut, leaving you on your hands and knees after trying to sneak out with the basket of clothes. You groaned and wiped your now dusty, dirty jeans, and shook your head in disapproval at the lousy job the cleaning lady had done today.

"Need a hand?", you heard a comforting, familiar voice and you grunted but broke into a smile as you got up with the help of Jeremy who approached you, grinning. You looked at the clothes spread out on the floor, and muttered how now they had to be washed again because of the dirty floor and carpet, but Jeremy laughed and pushed you outside, and followed.

"It's not that bad. C'mon, I'll help you hang them. If we work together, they'll be up quicker", Jeremy said and led you to the clothesline where he started to hang wet shirts and sheets. You helped him and giggled as you smacked him with a towel, leaving a wet red spot on his muscular broad arm and his mouth hanging open with shock.

"How dare you?", he asked and started to chase you with the pegs, threatening to pinch you with them but you got away from him in time and continued to rule the fight until the both of you got bored and tired. You hung the rest of the clothes, and then returned inside where you went into separate ways, he had to feed the oldsters and you had dishes to wash on the other side of the building.

As you worked in the big kitchen, listened to people thanking for the food, did the dishes, wiped the floor and put the plates, utensils and glasses away, all you could think about was the handsome Gilbert boy who had definitely stolen your heart. Everything about him was so lovable, how were you supposed to not be head over heels for him? He was caring, sweet, handsome, friendly, and just the ideal boyfriend. He had it all, and you wished he'd be yours, even for one night.

You washed another glass and put it in the dishwasher, only to realize it was full, so you closed it, and turned it on. A deep sigh slipped out of your mouth as you looked at the clock, fully in thought, which was why you didn't hear the kitchen door open and footsteps approaching you.

"Everything OK here? I just put the women outside so they can gossip and enjoy the sun, and the guys are watching TV and playing with cards. So I guess I can have my thirty minutes of freedom now. Coffee?", Jeremy suggested and you nodded slowly while pushing your hands in your pockets. He was kind, as always, but it left you thinking if he had a girlfriend or not. It would be surprising if he didn't, but if he did in fact have a girlfriend, why would he act this way towards you? He wasn't the kind of guy to cheat.

But no one was the kind of guy to be this nice to a girl without some thoughts in the back of his mind.

"So... You're working pretty late tonight. Isn't your uh, girlfriend gonna miss you with you away all day long?", you asked carefully when he handed you the mug of hot coffee. You took a sip and watched him smile with his teeth shining in the sun rays sticking in from the window. It caused your heart to do tricks on you, but you tried to keep yourself calm and relaxed, though you did have to sit down.

"There isn't a girlfriend, actually. But I do have my eyes on this one girl", Jeremy admitted and gave you a look, which you should have taken as a meaningful one but you were expecting the worst so you didn't read it the way he meant it. You assumed there was someone else, and it caused you to choke up and bite your lower lip in disappointment and slight frustration, anger, even. You put down the mug, and got up from your seat, suddenly uncomfortable around Jeremy and uncomfortable with the conversation, so you made your way to the door.

"Well, good luck with whoever is the lucky girl", you shrugged and walked out. You went in the staff room, and started to sort out medicine pots, and their lids to make sure the right people would have the right pills. It required concentration, yet your mind was focused on everything but the task you were currently working on.

Then the door opened, and Jeremy walked in with a worried look on his face and his lips in a straight line, making you do the same. You couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy now when you looked at him, when you had to accept the fact that he would belong to someone else eventually. You were too shy to tell him how you felt, and now it felt even more impossible when you knew there was someone he cared about, very potentially someone else than you.

"Y/N, are you- Are you upset? Why are you upset? Here, let me help", Jeremy said and put his hand on yours and tried to stop them from shaking but it ended with you throwing all the pots and pills on the floor. You groaned out loud and trembled as you lowered yourself to your knees. Eventually you realized you were crying, and tears stained your red cheeks while you collected the pills but it seemed hard and frustrating and you just wanted to scream.

"Stop being so kind and stop doing that... that thing you do! You're too charming and if you have a girl you want to flirt with and want to take home with you and be in a relationship with, then go and get her. Stop giving me false hope, stop giving me shreds to cling on. You should never play with anyone's heart like that. You should... You should always tell the truth to people", you stuttered and ran your hands along your face. Then you stared into Jeremy's deep eyes, mostly with anger, but he looked you so fondly your heart started to melt and your body softened and you wanted to hug him.

But you didn't.

"If you don't love someone, then you shouldn't lead them into thinking you do. If you do love someone, then you should just grab them and kiss the life out of them, really", you chuckled, although you hadn't done that either. You were in love with Jeremy but you never took any risks. You always took the safe, familiar way. The shy way.

"Alright", Jeremy then spoke up, and grabbed your face gently with his large hand and pressed his lips on yours. A wave of shock ran through you and made you widen your eyes and stumble backwards until you were sitting, but Jeremy had you. He had a good hold of you and he didn't let go. He let his lips dance on yours and you were so happy he did that. You had never felt anything so magical.

"That girl I was talking about... Y/N, that's you. I love you. Truly", Jeremy continued and breathed out, and smiled while holding his forehead against yours. You smiled too, and looked into his eyes.

"I love you too, Jeremy. I've loved you since day one. When I saw you cleaning up that bathroom...", you chuckled, "Your hair sweaty and your arms clenching as you made that toilet real shiny." You both laughed, and Jeremy picked you up from the floor.

"You didn't look too bad changing those wet bed sheets, either", he said with a grin, and kissed you once more, but then you had to get back to work.

And starting from that day, every day at work, was better and greater and happier. And eventually, there was a couple in the house, doing the same job, making money just to make each other happy with dates and flowers and dinners.
