Imagine telling human!Stefan on Christmas that you're pregnant with his child

On your third Christmas with Stefan Salvatore in the 1860s, you were blessed with the best present one could only wish for. Ever since you and Stefan had made things official, you and him had considered starting a family one day, even though you were young and to some it seemed like you were rushing into things but you were convinced it was meant to be. You were meant to be. You were hopelessly in love, and you both knew and agreed that you wanted to have children, though you didn't start trying quite yet but you were still convinced that one day you'd hold a baby in your arms.

Some people, like Stefan's brother Damon, judged your choices and kept telling you that getting married and having a child at such a young age would be a great mistake, but neither of you listened to him. You wanted to have a baby, one day, and you didn't take shit from anyone. You moved in together, and spent much of your time together, not in a clingy way but you weren't sure if you could cope without the other by your side. It was a dream come true, for the both of you. Through seasons, through many holidays and events, through sadness and happiness, through sickness and health, through ups and downs, you remained with each other, ready to support and do anything if needed.

And because of these, rather fair and important reasons, you couldn't help but smile as you looked down at the test results you had gotten after suspecting a reason to do so. You and Stefan hadn't tried too hard, but after a few attempts you had started to lose hope and feel like your body, or maybe his, had something going on and it would impossible for you to have a child. It caused misery to move in your heart, but now it was kicked out and all that remained was happiness that was created by something as simple as Stefan's presence in yours.

"Oh my god", you breathed out happily, and covered your mouth with your palm while breaking into a cheerful laughter. You were pregnant. The results were positive. You turned to look at your doctor, who smiled kindly at you, happy for you and Stefan. Everyone knew you in the town and outside of it, as well, and the doctors were hoping for the best when you came in that day, asking for a pregnancy test to prove you were right. And you were. And the feeling was incredibly satisfying.

"Congratulations, sweetheart", the kind woman smiled, and offered you a hug which you gladly accepted in the pure bliss you felt as you thought about it over and over again. Now you had a wonderful Christmas present to give to Stefan, and you knew that the second he'd see it, he'd burst with joy. You hopped off of the chair, and thanked your doctor several times with a wide smile, before leaving the room and the building with the test results in hand.

You were happier than ever, and the whole drive home was spent with tears of joy and laughter through the crying while you kept glancing at the papers. Somehow, it felt so hard to believe, but you never wanted to know another truth to replace this one. This was all you needed, the knowledge that you and Stefan had officially started a family and in some months, you and him could hold your first child in your arms. For so long, you had ached for that special happiness, and now it was there.

As soon as you reached your front door, you calmed down. You didn't want to seem weird, not more than usual at least, and you hid the papers under your shirt as you entered the house and greeted Stefan who answered from the living room. He rushed to you, happy to see his future wife return home, and suddenly his lips were already placed on yours and you were left in an utterly breath-taking, fond but hot kiss. When your lips parted, Stefan set his hand on your cheek and rested your foreheads together while speaking the three words that always made you smile no matter what.

"I love you too", you replied and kissed him quickly while running your fingers through his soft hair gently, combing it and making it look less messy. Stefan's hand tugged up the bottom of your shirt, threatening to reveal your upper body and slide his hands underneath but, even though it took you a lot of strength, you grabbed his hands and stopped him. He gave you a confused look, knowing that you always liked it when he adored you, whispered sweet things in your ear while his hands wandered around yet you now denied that fun from him.

"Later. In the evening", you promised shortly, and kissed his forehead briefly. You gave him a warm smile as you continued your way from the front door to your bedroom which you shared with Stefan. Unable to avoid suspicious behaviour, you locked the door so you could prepare Stefan's present, but he knew Christmas was in a few days and therefore you had matters you couldn't include him in, so he dropped it and returned to the living room where he continued to read his book..

You sat on the edge of the bed after finding a box and wrapping paper. You set the papers at the bottom of the box, in a way that Stefan could see the positive results as soon as he'd open it, and the thought of the moment caused you to grin as you wrapped the box in Christmas themed paper. You finished the present with a beautiful bow, and then set it on the back of your closet while smiling proudly.

  You couldn't wait for Christmas.

And luckily, it arrived quickly. That was the thing about Christmas - the bittersweet truth. Some people started to prepare and wait for the special day since November, some even at the end of October, and for months they'd do their everything to make a special Christmas. Then the last days always went so quickly and in a blink of an eye, the songs were sung, the food eaten, the presents opened and there wasn't nothing to wait for anymore. Christmas took so damn long to arrive, yet maybe the waiting was the greatest part, but then it was just over. And realizing that you no longer had those great things that made your December bearable, it was horrible.

But nothing about your Christmas with Stefan was horrible. It was pure perfection from the morning to the midnight, from the first kisses to the last. There was a difference between those kisses, even though not too many hours after all.

In the morning, Stefan gave you a kiss that was so loving, caring, and tender as only possible. It was the kind of kiss he always gave you after waking up. It was to show you that he loved you with all his heart, and that he would through the day, and every other one too. It was to make you smile right away, to have something to get up for, and something to motivate you through the most boring parts of the day. Something to look back to and remember when you were tested by sucky weather, annoying people, unlucky situations or whatever would cause you to be angry or in tears. It was the first kiss of the day, and often, the best. And on Christmas, it was even better. Everything was better on Christmas.

In the night, when it was already far too late and you were so tired you couldn't help but giggle all the time, it was so different from the morning. You'd already be in bed, and Stefan would give you the most passionate, intense kiss ever, always besting the previous night's kiss in some miraculous way. And it would send you to a wonderful dream and cause you to smile and sleep peacefully.

But this night was different. It was the kind of kiss you'd expect to receive after letting him know you were pregnant with his child. Loving, like in the morning, but intense, like in the night. The perfect combination of both, flawlessly balanced with happiness and the tears you tasted on each other's lips.

But before you got to experience that kiss, a lot happened. You ate delicious dinner, and you had fun dancing and singing, and you spent time on each other's arm, by the fireplace. It was all lovely and calm, and you had a warm, happy feeling in your heart through the entire day. Only when you decided to open presents, a nervous tingle took you over and you felt somewhat afraid even though you knew exactly what Stefan's reaction would be. All good, all positive.

But it was still a big deal and you couldn't help but protectively hold your hand on your stomach as Stefan gave out the presents, making two stacks with yours in one and his in another. He kept on smiling, as if he already knew, and while it was the most adorable thing ever, it also caused your palms to turn sweaty as you thought through all the possible reactions from him. What if he had only said he wanted to start a family with you but really didn't? Perhaps reaching him with the information of your pregnancy through a Christmas present wasn't the best idea after all.

"Is something wrong, doll?", he asked in concern, and touched your thigh with his hand gently to bring you comfort. You sucked in a sharp breath and shook your head, convincing him that everything was perfectly fine. But you weren't sure if that was the truth, though still, as you slid off of your seat down to the floor where the presents resided, you maintained the smile on your lips.

"You can open yours first", Stefan suggested, wanting to see your reaction to each present. You did as he wished, and were happy to see presents you had hoped for, from pretty jewelry to a gorgeous dress and your favorite books. He hadn't forgotten the chocolate, either, and at the end of the presents you sat with an incredible feeling. Stefan really cared about you, it was easy to tell, and that calmed you down a bit.

"There's still one gift left, but I'm saving it for later", Stefan mischievously smirked, before turning to his own presents. He rubbed his hands together and laughed lightly, warming your heart, while he went for the box you had wrapped up a few days ago. Instantly your hand went to stop him, and a loud protesting no left your mouth which made Stefan turn to you in shock. He had never heard you so distressed, frightened, nervous - it was a bunch of feelings taking over you, really.

"Uh-- save that one for last, please?", you smiled weakly. Not only were you afraid of him opening it, but also aware that if he'd open it first, it would also be the last. He got excited easily, especially over a matter like this one, no doubt of it and you'd be lucky if he'd manage to open the rest of the presents next year. So you put the present on the side to wait, while Stefan started to open the others.

After revealing what you got for him, following his wishes and fulfilling his expectations, you shared a loving kiss. Then, he took the very last present to his lap, and opened the bow and then the cover of the box. You held your breath in while looking at Stefan who froze at the very spot, his mind melting into one big mess, his mouth slightly open, the dry lips parted as his eyes slowly examined the papers at the bottom of the box. His fingers trembled, and the cover of the box dropped beside his leg while letting out a happy, shocked sigh and allowing a couple of tears to slide down to his cheeks and finally, lips.

"Y/N", he breathed, and turned to you, showing you how much he was already crying. "You're pregnant?", he wanted to confirm the news, while breaking into a wide smile. You nodded your head and felt your lips mirroring his as he pulled you into a rather tight hug. He held you in his shaking arms, and kissed your face dozens of times while laughing and crying at the same time. His reaction turned out to be quite similar to yours.

"Oh my god, I love you so much. This is perfect, Y/N, I'm so happy", Stefan explained and kissed you deeply. "This is also perfect for my last gift", he added, and shoved his hand in his pocket to pull out a red small box. You gasped, knowing exactly what it was, and at this very point you finally broke and started to sob.

Stefan didn't kneel - you were sitting on the floor. There was no fancy music or people witnessing the situation - just you and him, surrounded by torn wrapping paper and your shared sobs filling the silence. There was no speech - it was just those four simple yet so life-changing words.

"Will you marry me?"

And without a hesitation or a doubt you said yes. In a heartbeat, in a blink of an eye, you said yes and there it was, the shiny ring on your finger. You got married, and it was only the most beautiful wedding of all time. You gave birth to your first child, who turned out to be the cutest, most lovable baby ever. You were happy, and in love, and it would always be enough and all you needed.

And the kiss you had that night, it was very intense to say the least.
