Imagine Elijah and Klaus being your over-protective brothers ++ Imagine taking your boyfriend home for the first time

  Nervously, your hands trembled as your boyfriend grabbed both of them to hold in his. You shot him a look, fearful and like you wanted to escape but not too long ago you had said something about being brave and proud and therefore he didn't allow himself to give in to your sad puppy eyes. Chewing on his lower lip, he looked away from you, but soon enough his gaze returned and you both sighed while feeling the chilly winter air pinch your cheeks and nose uncomfortably.

  "I'm not sure about this, James. What if they don't like you and do something... something", you sighed and gave him a serious stare, trying to earn his realization. You and him were standing just outside your mansion in New Orleans, where you had aimed to walk confidently with your boyfriend James and introduce him to your brothers proudly. It seemed like a good idea, until you gave a thought to how insanely over-protective Elijah and Klaus were. You didn't bring a boyfriend home too often, but it was always equally nerve-wracking and unhealthy to you and your sanity. You loved your brothers, but they were honestly a pair of pretentious assholes and the chances of them approving and welcoming your boyfriend with open arms were slim.

  "I don't know, I'm pretty lovable. Kinda like Kol", James grinned, and nudged you with his elbow gently. Through the rapidly falling snowflakes, you gave him a horrified look, as if his words were supposed to calm you down but they did the opposite. You grabbed James from his shoulders, and in an instant your slender fingers answered to bring revealed to the freezing air, making you want to push them back in your pockets.

  "Kol was a dick. And Nik locked him up in a box for decades. How is that supposed to help me?", you cried out. James opened his mouth to say something but only a low breath of awkwardness came out, matching his state that now resembled yours with the slightest amount of fear. You looked into his beautiful eyes, and pushed strands of brown hair back under his warm beanie while giving him a kind smile.

  "I love you, but you're being kind of stupid right now", you stated, and kissed his pink lips softly. "It's contagious. Let's go", you then added, knowing that it was now or never, and after grabbing James' hand, you led him inside where you felt somewhat more confident - or at least tried.

  Above you, Klaus and Elijah looked at you two, leaning on the railing and reviewing the man you brought along. Klaus' lips pulled up along a smirk, while Elijah remained calm and cool as he judged the handsome young vampire at your arm. Sipping on a drink, Klaus chuckled, and locked eyes with you but spoke to Elijah.

  "It appears little sister has found yet another Prince Charming to wed", he said, and put down his drink before starting his way to the lower floor where he could officially meet your newest lover. You weren't dating and looking for love as often as Rebekah was, but for your brothers even this one, was enough and more. They had high expectations for the man you dated, even if you were grown enough to take care of yourself but to all of you, family meant the most even if some people - Klaus - didn't always let it show but there would never be a boyfriend you wouldn't eventually introduce to them.

  So, after five months of dating, you asked James if he'd like to meet your more or less crazy family, and he agreed. As a vampire, and a man dating an Original one, he was brave enough to do so and you couldn't be happier. And there you stood, hand in hand, in front of Klaus who was soon enough joined by Elijah to meet this young fellow who held their sister's heart in his hands. Too often they assumed the worst, that he would only crush that heart he had limitless access to, but you had broken up with men more than they had broken up with you. There was nothing to worry about, but they did it anyway.

  "Nik, 'Lijah", you cleared your throat, "this is my boyfriend James", before the young man offered his hand for your brothers to shake. You held your breath, afraid that Klaus would crush his bones or Elijah would surprise you by smacking his head off right away, but they both kindly shook James' hand and introduced theirselves. James nodded, and inhaled sharply, offering the brothers a warm smile as he spoke.

  "It's an honor to meet you. Not only because you're, like, the greatest vampires, or people in general, who have ever existed, but because you're Y/N's brothers", he told Elijah and Klaus with an evidently shaky, nervous tone but he did a fine job at presenting himself properly. You took his hand to stop it from shaking and to bring him some kind of comfort, and he gave you a grateful, relieved look and then returned his gaze on Klaus and Elijah who both nodded approvingly. It was hard to tell what they were thinking about James so far, but you hoped for the best. You had loved James since the first sight, so why wouldn't they?

  "Ah, much appreciated. May I speak to young James alone?", Klaus spoke, and gave you an asking look as if your boyfriend wasn't even present. You sighed at the neglecting attitude, but nodded in agreement even if fear lingered in your heart, the fear of losing the love of your life at the hands of your brother. Klaus flashed his infamous smirk, and spread out his hand to lead James to his room where he aimed to offer a drink and discuss why he should approve your relationship, and why this man was good for you. He wanted to be convinced that your heart wouldn't be broken.

  So they left, and you remained downstairs with Elijah. He gave you a smile, and soon enough you were already pulled into a hug. Elijah was a hugger. He didn't let many people see that of him, but he had a big fluffy side, and a golden heart even if he was the scary Original guy who could kill a room full of people in a blink of an eye. Usually he was labeled as the noble one, but while he could reach unspoken sins and simply horrifying actions, deep down he was a softie and a huge dork. Who loved his siblings, especially his sister, especially the one in his arms, very dearly.

  You breathed in Elijah's scent, and shook your head while wrapping your arms tightly around his body. He did the same, and a quiet, fond chuckle slipped from between his lips before placing a gentle kiss on your temple. You and Elijah were really close, you would always take care of each other and have each other's backs no matter what. Always and forever, as had been promised.

  "Why are you and Nik always so tough on the guys I date?", you sighed as you let your arms unfold of his body and rest against your chest after crossing them. You gave him a disappointed look - sometimes it felt like they didn't trust you, but you weren't one to fool around and act recklessly without knowing the consequences. You were a smart, brave girl and you knew how to take care of yourself, and there wasn't a single guy in the world, not even James, for whom you'd act like a foolish dumb girl. You knew love wasn't always forever, and that at one point your heart would probably break but instead of setting his car on fire and causing a flood in his house - beautifully balancing the two elements - you would work on it and fix your heart, on your own or with support from loved ones but you'd get through it somehow.

  And you most definitely did not fall for every guy who smiled at you. You wouldn't be a whore and sleep with everyone who acts friendly towards you. You knew better. And when these rare cases of you falling in love, hard, like you did with James, you expected your brothers to approve and support the relationship but so far it seemed like you hadn't proved yourself enough. But that wasn't even the case, even if you felt like it, and for a good reason, sometimes.

  "Because you are our sister, and no matter how tough or brave you are, you'll still be our little Y/N who needs to be protected and taken care of. We know very well that you don't need us to babysit and make sure every guy you date is good-- Or at least I know that, but my point is... We will never stop worrying about you. We love you. And we want you to be happy, and with the right guy", Elijah explained and kissed your cheek softly. He gave you a heart-warming smile, and you couldn't help but mirror the expression as you stood there, succumbed to his brotherly love and kindness, as always.

  "James is a good guy. I love him. I trust him. That should be enough. I do appreciate the concern you two show me, like, all the time, and I will always want you to meet my boyfriends but I feel like James could be the one, Elijah. At least for some centuries", you chuckled and uncrossed your arms. Elijah chuckled too, but neither of you spoke anymore - you just stood, wondering how things were going with Klaus and James upstairs.

  "So, I take it you have fallen for my little sister?", Klaus spoke softly while pouring two drinks - one for him, one for the potential future husband of Klaus' dearest sibling. James stood nervously, nodding his head rapidly, afraid that each movement or action could cost his life, whether it'd be a wrong answer, take him too much time to do so, or just displease Klaus in some way to earn his head to be smacked off. Klaus noticed this, and he licked his lips briefly while chuckling - he couldn't help but admit that he understood why the young vampire was frightened. After all, he was the big bad wolf with power behind his name, the name that made everyone quiver, and he had just invited the man who was sleeping with his sister, up to his room which could possibly mean he had plans to kill the fellow.

  But not this time. For once, Klaus felt friendly and understanding, and therefore an effectively warm smile was painted on his pink lips as he offered the drink to James who slowly took it and thanked the hybrid quietly. Klaus let out a laughter that echoed through the room, sending shivers down the fearful man's spine while he avoided eye contact with the scariest brother of his girlfriend.

  "I do love her", James then found the courage to speak as he came to the realization that he did not give Niklaus a proper answer yet, and he wanted to do his everything to please the man - you know, to respect his girlfriend and be in good terms with her family, and to stay alive.

  "Y/N is amazing. We met in the summer, at a bar which isn't the most romantic place, but she brought the proper atmosphere there with her gorgeous smile and even more stunning giggles. I'm a vampire, so I knew instantly who she was, but I wasn't scared", James shrugged, "the fact that I'm dating Y/N, it's just unbelievable. She's the greatest girl I've ever met, and it would mean everything to me if you gave me your approval, your blessing. I want to be with her, for a long time", James explained, praising you, adoring you, proving that he loved you with all his dead heart.

  Klaus lifted an eyebrow, impressed with the man. Every man he had met through you, asking for Klaus' approval had said similar things, but not with such deep genuine fondness in their voice. It was easy for Klaus to tell that James cared about you, and it caused him to smile widely. He wasn't a devoted believer in love, unless it was cases like these. He had once said to an old friend of one sort that special love like what he had witnessed in Mystic Falls, it would never die, and somehow he wanted and easily could believe that you and James shared that kind of a spark. And that convinced Klaus, so after downing his drink, he threw his arm over James' shoulders and laughed out loud.

  "Mate, you seem like a fairly good guy. I must confess, I'd prefer if my sister didn't date, but if she insists on doing so, you're the man she should be with. I hope you two will be happy together, for however long is only possible", Klaus grinned, and smacked James' shoulder in a friendly way. The man was absolutely shocked, that he actually got to the evil hybrid's good side but now that he had reached the inside circles, he made sure to never screw up. He loved you, but he also knew that one wrong action could lead into being shamelessly slaughtered by the same man who was now happily laughing and walking him back downstairs.

  As soon as James and Klaus reached the floor, you ran to your boyfriend's arms and hugged him tightly. Perhaps you seemed too surprised to see him alive and well, but it was certainly good news. You gave Klaus a grateful look, to which he responded by approvingly nodding with a smile on his lips, before you placed yours against James'. It was a passionate kiss, one your brothers hated witnessing but in the sake of your happiness and your relationship, they sucked it up and dealt with the moment. Although it did seem to last like a million years.

  "We're going to leave now, we have stuff to do", you said, trying to professional and proper but your mischievous giggle and the seductive wink you gave to James gave your true intentions away and it earned groans from both Klaus and Elijah. You took James' hand, and started to walk towards the front door but before you could reach it, Elijah placed his hand on James' chest and stopped him from moving.

  "Hurt her, and there won't be a place I wouldn't find you from. I will hunt you down, and show you things worse than death, until you beg for me to grant you a merciful death. No one hurts my family and lives. No one. Understand that?", Elijah whispered lowly, giving your boyfriend a threatening look. James swallowed thickly, and licked his lips quickly while nodding his head. They couldn't exchange any more words, when you had already pulled the man with you and waved your goodbyes to your brothers.

  Luckily, James didn't have to worry about Elijah's words. You and him were headed towards a happy future, on a certainly rocky, dangerous path but what awaited at the end of the rainbow was worth it all.
