Imagine Matt freaking out when he loses your child in a ballpit
After several dates with Matt Donovan, he asked you to be his. You turned the little crush between you into something official, and thus a lovely relationship started. Matt had been falling for you ever since you were little kids, always kind of liking you and he was glad that he could finally kiss you, hold you, tell you how much he loved you. After about a year of dating happily, he proposed to you and you said yes, because you did love him with all your heart and you had been dreaming of marrying him for a long while now. He was the ideal husband - hot, kind, caring, human, and with him you could imagine a happy future. With vampires, it would be so much more complicated.
Then you found out you were pregnant. You and Matt were quite active in the bedroom, so it wasn't such a surprise to neither of you, and you were happy and ready to welcome a baby to the family. But the news of being pregnant made you want to get married as soon as only possible, and so, you and him had a lovely little wedding with your only closest friends from Mystic Falls invited. It was quite the adorable night.
You were happy. You both were. Matt was perfect for you, he'd never leave your side, never betray you, never do anything to hurt you. You knew he was the one for you. And therefore, you weren't nervous or stressed out when your water broke and it was time to give birth to your first child, because even though you knew it was going to be hellish, the baby was going to born into a happy family, in a safe place, surrounded by loving parents and caring friends.
You gave birth to an adorable baby girl, which you named Victoria, Vicki for short - obviously it came from Matt's sister which you had loved dearly. Unfortunately she had died years ago, but now you had a lovely child to take care of, and who could hopefully live up to the name of Vicki Donovan. Obviously it brought your husband to tears, but you couldn't hold yourself back from crying either - you had a baby now.
Three years later, you and Matt were already mature and grown, and knew the tricks of parenthood. Matt was getting paid well with the job of a deputy, while you stayed home with Victoria and taught her how to walk, how to talk, how to draw, how to eat by herself and what not. She was growing to be a good kid, and a lovely girl as well - she was absolutely irresistible with her wide, bright smile, bubbly laughter and blue eyes to match Matt's. Most of her features came from Matt, but she had some Y/N in her too and she was hands down the cutest little girl ever.
She melted the hearts of your friends who visited quite often, but not too much because they didn't want to lead any bad guys or villains to your home and endanger your entire family. But especially Stefan, Jeremy, Caroline and Bonnie visited, and every time they brought some lovely gifts to the little Vicki and you were certain she would be spoiled to death soon. But she was quite the little princess, after all.
Not only was she cute and adorable, but energetic. Positive, and all, but many times you and Matt found yourself in utter frustration when the girl wouldn't fall asleep or stop running around the house. Being parents was exhausting and tiring too, and with Vicki being so unbelievably cheery and vivacious, it was even more difficult. She was like you, sometimes you'd just jump around, dance and sing and have fun but you had left all that behind as soon as you became a mother. But Vicki, oh, she made sure that it continued in the house.
So taking her to public places was sometimes challenging. Matt was always afraid of losing her in the big crowds, though your current hometown wasn't that huge but the possibility still remained, just like the fear in your husband did. Neither of you wanted to lose your daughter, obviously, but Matt was over-protective and always losing his mind and control whenever Vicki was out of sight for even two seconds. Yes, she was only three, but you weren't even nearly as terrified as Matt was every time you three went out.
One of the great examples would be the time you suggested going to a new McDonalds that opened nearby your house. It had a bouncing house and a ball pit and what not, and when you told little Vicki, she was more than excited to go and have some delicious fast food - or at least you assumed so from the way she kept laughing and clapping her hands together cheerfully. Matt had been working all week, and you were exhausted from taking care of your daughter alone, so kicking off the weekend by going out, the whole family, seemed like a wonderful idea.
"What do you want, babe? I'm paying, of course", Matt asked as you stood in the waiting line in the McDonalds, Vicki in your arms so she wouldn't take off. You rolled your eyes, and eyed the list, but when you couldn't come to one result you decided to let the husband decide.
"I'll have what you'll have. But Matty, there's no need to act like a gentleman, we've been married for years now - this isn't a first date. And if it was, then it'd suck because I have a kid in my arms and we're at McDonalds. But there's no need for you pay for me--", you explained, giving Matt a bored look. Of course you loved him, and there was still lots of sparks left in your marriage but you didn't need him to play the nice guy every day. It must be exhausting to try keeping a wife happy, so you cut him some slack, thinking you'd be a nice wife.
"This is your wallet, but ok", Matt pointed out then, earning a sigh from you.
Matt ordered for you, him and Vicki who was mostly interested in the ball pit. When you got the food and sat down at one of the tables, you and Matt started to talk about your days, while you allowed Victoria to go and play. When there were toys, she couldn't be any less interested in food, unlike you, you started devouring the meal while listening to your beloved go through his day as Deputy Donovan.
Fifteen minutes passed, then Matt dropped the food in his hands, and stared at the ball pit deadly seriously. "Where's Vick?", he asked seriously, and you turned to look at the ball pit, where you could not see your daughter. You knitted your eyebrows together, but then shrugged it off, believing she was still there but with all the balls and a couple of other kids, it was difficult to spot her. You tried to continue the conversation, but Matt was already on his feet and storming to the ball pit.
"But-- Matt!", you groaned, and got up, following him. "No don't dive--", you tried, but your husband had already made a lifeguard dive into the ball pit and he was swimming through the balls which caused you to place your palm on your face in embarrassment. You loved him, but he was an idiot.
"Excuse me, ma'am, do you know that man?", one of the workers asked while pointing at Matt who kept panting and diving into the pit, seeking for Victoria who had managed to get lost in the middle of the colorful balls. You turned to the woman with the McDonalds clothes on, and opened your mouth to explain yourself, but then you let out a low breath and smiled innocently.
"That guy? No, never seen him. No clue who he is", you convinced her. The woman thanked you, and then walked to the ball pit to drag Matt out but just in time, your husband managed to grab a girl who was indeed your innocent little Victoria. She was laughing and grinning, while Matt wiped sweat from his forehead and let the panic leave his mind and heart.
Matt crawled out of the ball pit, dragging Victoria along, and you prayed for him to not pay any attention to you but sadly he did the exact opposite. "Y/N! God bless I found Vick. I thought we lost her for a second there, babe", he said, with a loud voice and threw an arm over your shoulders, causing a blush to crawl onto your cheeks. You tried to cover your face and avoided eye contact with the woman to whom you had lied just a moment ago, but she saw. She saw you all.
"Thanks, Matt, totally not embarrassing. You idiot", you laughed, to which your husband just grinned. Victoria giggled, and it melted your heart, but you still tried to look tough. "You, you little troublemaker. Don't ever do that again, you know how your dad gets", you said, and gave Matt a teasing look. He stuck out his tongue, and Victoria did the same, and the resemblance was striking and you couldn't possibly stay tough with them.
You had barely gotten back to your dinner, when a woman approached you, and gave you an apologetic look. "I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to kick you three out. What you did back there was inappropriate, and I'd suggest you don't return for a while", she explained, and escorted your little troublesome family out of the McDonalds. You were shocked, and stood at the entrance with your jaw open, but before you could complain to the woman, she already went back in and shut the door in your faces, which left you with only one option.
You turned to Matt. And you gave him the most frustrated, annoyed look ever. He tried to give you a kiss, and smile his way out of it but it didn't go through, you just crossed your arms and started to walk towards your car with your head held high. Matt ran after you, but then remembered Victoria, and returned to grab her and with her in his arms, he ran back to you.
"C'mon, babe, don't pout. It's just McDonalds", he tried. You so wanted to laugh, but luckily, you didn't.
"You will pay for this. Preferably tonight, after Vick has gone to sleep...", you said and smirked at your husband, which made him gasp. Matt nodded his head rapidly, and then looked over to Vicki who kept smiling so adorably.
"Someone's going to bed early tonight!"
