Chapter 9: Lies, Truths, Pain

The Vampire King laughed softly as he listened to his accomplices, leaning back in his seat and taking a sip from the glass that he continued to swirl between the grasp of his fingers.

His wings were summoned, neatly hanging off his seat, hardly noticeable.

Encre ate happily with Cruzar who talked to him about his past adventures with Macabre who silently watched and nodded his head, a small smile still on his face.
The older, more experienced thief was nothing like his partner who was energetic and talkative. Macabre tended to stay silent and watch those around him rather than socialise with them. Being a thief and all you had to be sly and move like a shadow.
But Macabre really took it the next level.

Not even Fallacy knew about his past, his family -if he had one- or how he came to become a thief. But the King respected Macabre's sense and idea of secrecy and never tried to push his friend into telling him anything. Maybe Cruzar knew more about Macabre, maybe not. It was all really a blur.

Jasper drank some blood, his cheeks still slightly flushed. He didn't make eye contact with the hours and Encre noticed, raising a brow and leaning over to him.
"Hey? Something wrong?" She mumbled with a small smile that seemed to boost everyone's confidence.

The Prince flinched and swallowed, lowering his goblet. "Mm..." His eyes immediately ran across the room before they struck Suave who was idly talking to the other maids. Encre followed his gaze before a mischievous smirk appeared on her face, "ooh. I see~" She purred.
Jasper squeaked and ripped his gaze from him, looking down at his lap and his hands which were gripped together.
"S-shush..." He muttered under his breath.

Encre hummed and smiled. "Oh come on." She said in a hushed voice, "it's not like it isn't obvious. I've seen you glance over to him multiple times all week! Even your father has too."
"Stars strengthen me..." The young Prince hissed to himself as he grabbed his goblet again and chugged down the blood like there was no tomorrow.

A few maids were quick to refill it, taking a few empty plates from the table and hurrying out.

Carlos was eating like a beast- stuffing everything that fit down his throat. He was obviously enjoying it all too much.
Jasper grumbled and rolled his glowing eyes. "Calm down. You're gonna choke."

The other vampire looked at him with an almost pissed-off look. "So what! I'm a vampire! Vampires don't choke!"

A snort from Fallacy.

"You clearly don't remember anything, Carlos." The King smiled. "Say Jasper, don't you remember the time Carlos tried to eat a bat because he thought it would strengthen him?"

Jasper laughed and nodded, "yes! And the whole time it was a vampire too!" He laughed harder, his father joining in.

Fallacy almost wheezed, "and then he transformed into his skeleton form and almost tried to beat the shit out of Carlos? Saying he was an ass-hat?"
The Prince thumped his hand down on the table and doubled over, the two laughing their heads off.

Meanwhile, Carlos was watching with narrowed eyes, still chewing very slowly and shaking his head.

Encre giggled a little and continued to eat her food, a lot slower than the others. She enjoyed this. All of them eating together happily. Looking over their memories and laughing at those funny moments where they seemed to be no problems.

She looked around the room, looking at the paintings which now decorated the walls. Looked over to the maids who talked and laughed quietly and then towards the windows, the curtains drawn back to reveal the night sky.
Always a beautiful sight, the stars shining and the moon-

The curtain moved slightly.
Encre stared. There was no wind or breeze which could have dragged it a little. No one was around there any way to move it.

Her eyes narrowed a little and she got up from the table. Fallacy looked over to her, "Encre?"
"Give me a second..." She mumbled, tucking in her chair and walking across the hall towards the curtains.

Jasper hummed and looked over, watching with a confused look on his face.

Encre approached them, raising out a hand to grab them as she got closer and closer.
And when she went to reach out to them and yank her back.

Someone else grabbed her first.

She shrieked as a hand shot out, gripping around her wrist.
She pulled back quickly, dragging the figure out from hiding spot in the process and punching them in the face with all of the strength she could muster.

There was an earning grunt and Encre was whipped around, claws around her and a knife held near her. Pointed at the table.

Everyone had heard the shriek and had immediately got up from the table, cutlery clanking and chairs shrieking. Suave quickly grabbed Jasper and yanked him back, it was his duty to protect the young Prince.

Fallacy and Cruzar went to approach but a snarl split the air.

"DON'T. MOVE."
Eterna watched with glowing eyes, her shark-teeth bared at them as she pulled Encre closer who winced.
"Y-you don't need to do this, Eterna..." She mumbled with a calm voice, but there was still fear.

"You're coming home with me, Encre. Whether you like it or not.
Away from these monsters and criminals." The huntress growled lowly, her gaze pinned on Fallacy who watched with narrowed eyes, his wings arched up around him in alarm.

Encre growled. "For the last time... I like it here!? It's better than the village!"

"And what about Azure. About Simon and Orion!?" She scoffed, "Forgot about them? They're your friends too?!"

"A-And I'll visit them in my own time! But I am never going to go back and live in that horrid place where no one cares about you. Especially YOU!"

The huntress rolled her eyes and started to walk them closer to the door, going around the table.

Fallacy and Cruzar gritted their teeth. Suave still holding back the Prince while the maids and Carlos watched, not being able to do anything. If they moved or tried to stop her she could plunge that knife right down into Encre.
Fallacy glanced around and realized that Macabre had completely vanished.

Macabre was right behind Eterna, his eye narrowed. He had been so silent. No one had noticed him. Not even his shadow or dark body behind the two. He raised a hand and lunged, grabbing Eterna's wrist and twisting it into the lock, making her drop the knife. He then proceeded to yank her away from Encre, pulling her and slamming her down into the table, her wrists behind her back in an uncomfortable position.

Encre panted and stumbled back, Fallacy growling and going over to Eterna. "Look at you. You've made a right fool of yourself." He spat, his glowing eyes almost acidic and like those of a snake's.

Eterna laughed roughly, her head angled slightly to look up at his tall figure. "Oh shut it. It was so easy to find this pathetic castle."

"And yet you didn't even bother coming with a single guard let alone a patrol." Fallacy sat down, glancing over to the knife that now lay discarded on the floor. "You should plan your raids properly, Eterna. Or else you won't be keeping that high status of yours."

The thief shoved Eterna down even further into the table, hardly giving a damn if he was hurting her. After all, she was pretty much asking for it.

Encre watched and sighed softly. She walked over to Macabre and Eterna, glancing over to Fallacy. "Eterna... aren't you... tired of this..? We don't need to continue with this... I'm happy. You should be happy too!

There are no more vampires attacking the village. N-Not much tension..?"

Eterna looked up at her with a cold look before snorting and then laughing roughly. "Happy? HAPPY!?" Her eyes glowed darker and she growled. "My job is nothing now thanks to you and that monster!?" A glare towards Fallacy who stood there unfazed.

"I have no other reason to be in this stupid world. All I know and will do is try and bring you home!?"She yelled, her claws digging into the polished wood of the table.

Encre gritted her teeth, "I AM HOME!?" Tears formed in the corners of her eyes. "THE VILLAGE WAS NOTHING MORE THAN HELL. MORE LIKE A PRISON!! I NEVER FELT LIKE I BELONGED THERE.
BECAUSE I'M ALWAYS SEEN AS DIFFERENT TO EVERYONE AND A FREAK!"

Eterna opened her mouth to speak but was cut off by Encre.

"You." She panted, struggling through her tears. Fallacy swallowed, trying to step in to help her.

"Never cared. Only about your job and Dr Lofty. You only respected Azure because she was a guard. Rufous? You only saw him as a 'feeble blacksmith' who was only doing his job for money. You hardly even noticed Simon let alone Orion!
It was all about you!?"

Encre turned away, squeezing her eyes shut before turning again, walking to the door. Yanking it open and leaving. The door slamming shut behind her with a pretty loud thud.

The hall was silent after that, the maids staring at the door with startled looks. Suave swallowed, still holding Jasper close.

Fallacy watched the door, his wings lowering very slightly before he snarled towards Eterna, his pupils almost as small as pin-pricks. Glowing blood red.

Macabre didn't say anything, still watching Eterna with that cold and emotionless look. Cruzar slowly walked away from the table, mumbling something to Jasper before he slipped out of the room. Presumably after Encre.

"Now look at what you've done Eterna. You proud of yourself? You happy?" The Vampire King spat, his tone rough and his tongue laced with venoms of all sorts. His wings folded behind him and he looked to Macabre who met his eyes, his mouth a thin line.

"Get rid of her. Treat her a lesson. I don't care."

Macabre looked back to Eterna, pushing off of her, still gripping her wrists as he dragged her off the table and to the door.
"Carlos." He spoke. "Come." And then, without any other words, he left the room with the Huntress.

The young vampire glanced around to those who were still in the room, soon shifting into a bat and flying after the Spanish thief who he knew nothing of.

And then it was silent again.

Fallacy sighed sharply and fell back into his seat, resting his head in his hands as he haunched over. He was getting so tired of it all.
Jasper walked over to him, sitting down by him and hugging his knees. His wings were wrapping around him slowly,

"I wish we could all be happy, father.

I really do."
