Chapter 2: Royal Secrets
Fallacy's eyes widened with shock, him taking a step back away from the cloaked seller. He stared at him in disbelief before, unusual for him, stuttering out his words. "H-How!? I d-don't even know how you are!?" Yet in his voice there was a light growl showing his anger. A grin appeared on the face of the seller as he looked up at the vampire, his green eyes gleaming in the sunlight. "I never told you I was the damn va-" He was cut off when the green-eyed one shot up from his seat and covered his mouth quickly with a black-gloved hand, a hiss exiting him. "Shh!? You don't want to get caught do you you idiot, especially in a village flowing with guards!?" Fallacy pulled away with an annoyed face, his eyes glowing their red, yellow, and blue. However he did not protest for the man was utterly corrects, one mistake in speech in this village and you would be suspected by guards. He let out a sigh before pointing at the bag of coins he had brought with him.
"Look, I'm only here to buy something from you. I don't intend to cause any trouble unless necessary, which it is not."
"I know."
The seller smiled, yet Fallacy didn't seem to take it in a friendly way for some reason. Cautiously, he looked around, everyone was still buying and talking of products, people leaving and entering the marketplace. Guards held their swords, some also leaving while others stayed to keep watch over the civillians. The green eyes of the cloaked man looked at the bag of coins, taking one out and examining it to see if it was actual gold; which of course, it was.
"So, what are you here to buy then?" In response Fallacy pointed to a small leather case which was full of neatly placed necklaces made of glass.
"Ah, those." The seller picked one out, pulling it up by it's string, looking at it before taking a glance at the vampire that stood there and watched him. "But why?"
Fallacy looked at him suspiciously before speaking. "Since when is it any of your buissness?" He hissed with a harsh tone. There was no response. "Urgh. Look, I have to tell you anyway don't I,"he rolled his eyes," I need two, one for me and the other for my wife. My father is threatening to... take her as he doesn't agree with our marriage and love. She's a mortal you see. The necklaces however, I heard you can cast a type of spell on them?" The seller nodded.
"Yes, I can."
"Well, that's why I'm here. I need you to put a spell on both of them for me." Fallacy spoke in a serious tone and look. The seller smiled, his hands glowing with a blue aura. "Want me to explain the spell for you?" He asked and the vampire nodded, listening intently.
"So, this spell is going to be able to connect two of the chosen necklaces together. Whenever they are close they will glow brighter, however the further away they are from each other then the dimmer they will become." Staring into his eyes they glowed, "if you lose her then by using the necklace you have then there will be a higher possibility of retrieving whoever had taken her," this time he smiled with more trust.
Fallacy glanced at the necklaces once more, making up his mind before pointing to two of them. "I'll have those two," the seller nodded and picked them out from their box. He looked at the bag of gold, taking it greatfully and admiring the coins inside. Eventually he gave the vampire the necklaces safely in a small velvet bag. They were glowing, both a bright green, mostly because the seller had only just cast the spell on them. A green aura was present around them yet it was fading ever so slightly.
"Thanks."
"No problem, Fallacy," he hissed under his breath.
Fallacy himself straightened. "You dare speak a word of this", the seller grinned as he looked him in the eyes, his hands moving and clenching the collar of his hood. "I understand, but you aren't the only one keeping all of the secrets", and at that moment he pulled down his hood revealing a goat-like creature, young in age as if only a teenager. The vampire's eyes widened in absolute shock. "Y-You're... Prince Asriel!?" He took a step back as the 'Prince' quickly pulled up his hood once more.
"Don't. I've had enough with this 'Prince' buissness." He growled a little. "I ran away for a reason." Turning he looked into the direction of where Queen Agula's castle stood, "espeacially after they left my... 'adopted brother' to the hands of vampires." Asriel glanced at Fallacy, "I heard.. he became a vampire." A long sigh escaped him, "Charlos was the best...," he immediately stood up even straighter to Fallacy. "You are looking after him aren't you!?" He had shouted, a couple of people glancing at him as he grew quiet once more.
"I am looking after him, he can be a pain sometimes but I'm happy to have him around. My son is tutoring him, he's in the right hands." Fallacy smiled and earned one from the younger male.
"Well then,I thank you for that...," the pain stood out in his eyes yet there was a presence of relief. Eventually Fallacy turned away, heading off with his hood casting a shadow upon his face as he walked. Asriel watched him leave with a smile on his face, the bag of coins being held in his hands as he let out a sigh.
The vampire walked past the guards, some of them watching him when he passed them. He walked into an alleyway and through other streets of the small village. Two guards were following him; swords at hand. One of them was a dog-creature: the smell of fur and the wagging of his tail clearly giving it away, a male. The other, however, was a blue-eyes skeleton who eyed him, a female.
Fallacy picked up his pace, the guards doing the same as him. A face of irritation appeared on his face as he put the bagged-necklaces into and inner pocket. Overhead the trees of the Forbidden Forest could be seen towering over houses. He was close. Eventually the street of cobble stone stopped to be replaced by a dirt track that entered the Forbidden Forest, a sigh of relief left Fallacy but before he could even step forward,
"Halt!"
It was the skeleton guard, Fallacy took a glance at her with his eyes glowing sharply." What are you doing!? Who are you!?" The questions came flooding in, he didn't have time for this. The vampire read her mind only to be shocked, her thoughts were about protecting the village, wondering who this man was and... if he had anything to do with Encre's disapperance. That thought stuck him like a nail in the eyes. 'She had friends... And I took her away from them...' Guilt swept over him. Then an idea appeared in his head as he turned to face them. "And why should I tell you that?" A calm voice was what came out. The guards jerked a bit, gritting their teeth in frustration as they took a step forward. Blue strings appeared out of nowhere, wrapping around their surroundings. "If a fight is what you want, then a fight is what you'll get." With the point of the hand the strings shot towards them, mostly towards the dog creature due to his size. Using his sword he was able to cut through most of them, however while he was doing so he was grabbed by the rest of them by the leg. A chuckle escaped Fallacy, a victorious glow in his eyes as he lifted up hand before whipping it through the air. The soul of the dog appeared, turning blue before he flew through the air in the direction which Fallacy had pointed his hand towards. The guard ended up crashing into a tree with a giant 'clash' sound; it echoing around the streets. Fallacy smirked, the female skeleton looking at her companion in complete shock,a shaky breath escaped her as she turned back to face Fallacy once more.
"T-Tell me, what you want." It was more of an order than a question. He started to walk towards her in a seemingly strong manner, his cloak waving around in the wind behind him. She took a step back, her sword dropping from her hand and clattering onto the ground, her eyes widened as she looked into his. She had recognised them, no one could ever forget eyes like Fallacy's, not even her.
"You're..." Suddenly he was beside her, grabbing her before teleporting them both into the Forbidden Forest, not deep but not too close to the village. He slammed her against the trunk of a tree, she let out a cry. He had no intention of killing her, let alone hurting her. "Look, I'm not here to hurt you," he said. "I just need you to talk to me about somethng." She bit her lip nervously, her mind clouded with fear. Fallacy loosened his grip, "you miss Encre, don't you?"
Her eyes widened and she looked up at him. "I'm Fallacy, but I guess you've already taken that in account." He smirked. She looked away, keeping quiet as her blue eyes shone. She eventually spoke after a wave of silence. "So, why did you take her..." The question left her lips.
"I needed an an artist, some company. I got more than what I desired." Fallacy sighed and looked around their surroundings, good memories entering his mind. "What is you name, if I may ask?"
"... Azure." She replied hesitantly with her arms crossed. Azure looked up at him, her eyes filled with suspicion and her mind also flooded with memories. "How have you been treating her?" Azure glanced towards the village, yet the look on her face showed that she didn't want to leave just yet. "If you think I've been treating her cruelly then your wrong. I've been looking after her the best as I can. To be honest I never had the idea to hurt her in the first place."
She sighed, "why have you taken me then?"
"Because your one of her friends. I wanted to know how you two knew each other." Azure looked away before speaking. "I was probably the closest friend Encre ever had. She never had known her parents and after the loss of her brother we both looked up to each other for help, advice and just the fact that we were friends." A sigh exited her as she sat down against the tree she had been pinned against some time ago. Fallacy watched and shrugged, sitting down in front of her with his hood over his head just in case any sunlight got through the cover of the spruce trees. "We knew each other for years and our friendship grew, however it all changed when we got our jobs. I got a job as a Royal Guard, my dream had always been to become one and I couldn't just turn it away. Encre also got her dream job as the Royal Artist for Queen Agula. Once we started our jobs we started to see each other less frequently and we grew away from each other; sometimes happiness can lead to something less appealing." She rubbed her eyes and then looked to Fallacy. "There you have it. That's what you wanted wasn't it?" Fallacy just shrugged.
"Er... Kind of??? I didn't exactly want a whole entire History lesson on you and Encre." He chuckled while Azure looked at him, unimpressed. She sighed and stood up, "I better return to the village or else people will start to worry." She started to walk away, " I won't tell them of what happened but please.... "She glanced at him, "look after Encre"
Fallacy nodded with a smile as he stood up, "it is my duty." Azure smiled a little and nodded walking back to the village.
"AZURE!!!" A voice shouted and she turned to see Rufous running at her, she yelped before being pulled into a giant hug. "Rufous??? What's wrong?"
"I heard what happened to you and that guard!?" He was worried sick, "who did it!?"
"It's fine, Rufous. You don't need to worry." She smiled and he started to calm down. He nodded and then pulled her into the village, away from the edge of the forest.
Fallacy had watched them from the forest before turning away and walking deeper with his eyes glowing. He looked around as he walked, taking in all the sounds that echoes through the trees. He could hear vampires and bats, as well as other animals like deers. The trees swayed from side to side, he watched them. A storm was to come soon.
A light patter of rain started to fall, the sun beginning to set as Fallacy walked. Slowly he pulled down his hood, his eyes started to illuminate in the dark. A few wolves could be heard howling in the distance, Fallacy let out a small low chuckle. Wolves were one of the animals he respected in his forest. Eventually he got there, the doors opening before him as Suave stood there, giving him a small bow. "I take it that you went to the village?" Suave spoke politely as Fallacy walked in, the doors being closed behind him. Fallacy nodded, taking the cloak he was wearing off of him and giving it to Suave who took it and left with his permission. He headed up the stairs as he fiddled with his strings, heading to his and Encre's room where he opened the door slowly and walked in.
Encre was asleep, a small smile on her face. What surprised Fallacy was that Jasper was also there and asleep next to her while hugging her, a smile on his face as well. He chuckled, enjoying the small sight as he got dressed. Soon he got into bed, Jasper being in the middle, yet he didn't go to sleep straight away. As he lay there he examined the two necklaces that were glowing. He smiled, holding them close to his chest as he closed his eyes. 'Keep her safe...' He said deep in his mind.
Fallacy placed the necklaces back into the small bag that he was given and put it into a small drawer before cuddling up to his son and wife. A small sigh of content escaped him before he fell asleep.
The small blue bird was watching, perched up on the bed frame. It suddenly perked up as a small breeze flew through the room, there was no open windows... strange. It looked around and let out a small squawk.
Something was in the room...
