Chapter 11: Retreat

Fallacy gritted his teeth. Standing in the main hall.
It was a mess. All because of his stupid moments of true anger and rage which he could never control.
Thankfully he hadn't broken a single window and the table was still intact. Which couldn't be said for a few unlucky chairs.
Macabre slowly walked in, looking around calmly at the mess of wood, cutlery and shards of plates. His eyes slowly landed on Fallacy as he let out a reasonably calm yet tired sigh, "you finished?"

The Vampire King looked over to him with an unamused look, his eyes still glowing with magic which was slowly starting to settle down and dim. He raised a hand slightly, his strings moving and slithering back to him and vanishing under his cape like snakes. "Yes." He grumbled lowly and pinched the bridge of his nose.

The thief walked over to him and grumbled. "Cruzar is looking after Encre. Eterna has left for the village, being followed by a few of my... Associates to make sure she doesn't do anything bad."
Fallacy watched him and couldn't help but be a little thankful that his friend was always good at planning things, however dark or deadly they were.
Fallacy's wings stretched before they folded behind him, tucking into his back as he looked around at the mess with a frown as usual.

"Come on Fal." Macabre spoke as he walked back to the door, glancing over his shoulder and watching the vampire follow after him.

Eterna trekked back through the forest, eyes narrowed with disappointment with tints of rage. She knew she was being followed. She didn't think that that thief would let her off so easily or trust her so now she knew she was being watched. All to make sure she got to the village and didn't turn back to attack the castle again.

At this point she couldn't do anything but walk.
There was no longer a suitable job for her back at the village, now she was just dragged around by Dr Lofty and Azure and occasionally Rufous who was really only just there to be with the one he loved.
A glance up at the dark, ashy sky. It was snowing, not as heavy or as rough as it could have been, but it was still cold and already starting to settle in the fur and pine trees, slowly freezing the earth.
The puddles would start to freeze and the frost would come.
The huntress grumbled lowly, her pace quickening.

It took maybe an hour for her to reach the edge of the forest and she sighed, met with the village and the light glowing lights.
The vampires watched her from the trees carefully, their eyes pinned on her even as she stepped over the border and her boots met cobblestone.

She walked into the village, up a street. Shops were closed, a cafe still open in the distance that was still humming with quiet life and music. Not something she really cared about anymore though.
Ever since Queen Agula found out about Encre and had reassured the people of Underville that vampires would no longer be a main threat the residents of the village had become more confident of working into the late night and walking the streets. Obviously with the guards on watch.

Eterna thought it was cowardly.
Just because of Encre. Didn't mean that all vampires would be okay and be able to hold back their sinful lust for blood.

She looked down as she walked, her eyes glowing softly as she listened to the clicking of her boots.
Drowning every sound out around her.

"Eterna...

Eterna....!

ETERNA!!!!!!!!!"

She yelped as she was snapped out of her gaze, quickly looking up with gritted teeth subconsciously reaching for a dagger before she realised that Azure and Dr Lofty were running down the street at her. Worried expressions on their faces and looking the same as normal, neat and formal.
The young guard wearing her uniform and the Doctor wearing her usual white lab gown.

The two leapt onto her, hugging her tightly. "WHERE WERE YOU!?!?" Azure yelled, looking up at her peer. "We were all so worried a-after we found your hat and then couldn't find you anywhere!!"

Eterna stared at her for a moment before looking up again. "I'm fine. I just went for a walk. That's all." She murmured.

Dr Lofty watched her expressions and emotions carefully, "y-ou're ly-ying Eterna." Of course she knew she was lying, she was a doctor who had been able to study how people reacted to things and all. She could easily tell when someone was lying before her eyes.

"... So what if I am. I'm fine. I'm staying. The end." She slowly pulled away from the two and headed her own way back to her house.
Leaving the two friends standing there with confused frowns as they glanced over to each other with the same look.

Eterna passed Simon and Orion, both giving her waves and hellos. Only to get nothing but a simple glance, leaving the two staring after her, Orion looking up to Simon and nervously asking if he had done something wrong.

She soon got to her house, unlocking the door and pushing herself in, slamming it shut behind her.
The house was cold and dark but she didn't care, she could see everything anyway. She looked around and pulled off her band of daggers, throwing them onto a hook on the wall carelessly.
It was a small house compared to others. But it wasn't something that bothered her. There were no pictures on the walls, besides from a large drawing of herself, Azure, Ruous and Dr Lofty which Encre had drawn some years back.
She walked right up to it and stared at it, trying to remember.

She missed it. But her friend was now lost to a monster. And she had another brewing inside her.
It made Eterna cringe with hate. After all these years of warning people and her friends to never go into the Forbidden Forest Encre had ignored her. And now she was in a right mess.
She hadn't come back even once to visit herself or the others.
But then again... She was probably too scared to visit her. Especially with the fact that she had hurt Fallacy and done so many things to try and tear the two apart all so that she could bring her friend home. Underville.
Where she really belonged.

Not in a castle in the middle of a forest reeking with monsters, beasts, vampires and horrible creatures.

Eterna grumbled lowly at the picture before heading up to her room, eventually sitting down on her bed and lighting a candle, carefully resting it on her desk.

She looked to the window and got up, unlocking it and pulling it up. Staring out, getting hit with a cold breeze.
The snow had started to get heavy, colder like ice.
But she didn't care. She just... Almost accepted it.
Because it was the only thing she could accept at this point. Not the real truth.

Her eyes glowing glided over the village and to the forest, staring into the distance as if she could see the castle.

A frown formed and she looked away, her claws digging into the window frame, almost starting to stab into it.
The lights flickered down below and she noticed, squinting her eyes as she carefully watched the street.
Spotting something she had never seen before in her home, a shiver shooting up her spine as she watched it.

A creature lurking.
