Chapter 3
"Just remember, if anything bad starts to happen, call me immediately." Toby boomed through the cell phone.
"I will, Toby. Goodbye."
"Goodbye, Lucia. It better not be the last goodbye I get from you..." And with that he cut the line. I swore he worried too much.
The road Quinton and I were on was made of dirt. We were off of the beaten path, and that could be an understatement. It had already taken an hour to get here from our apartment. I was already exhausted and it wasn't even noon yet, but Mary had made a whole ordeal about me leaving with a man I didn't know. I convinced her though, at least after I told her I had my gun with me and I had plainly told Quinton that I did.
"You're in deep thought. What is it that's so important?" I stopped looking out the window that I've been looking through the past thirty minutes and looked to the gothic looking man beside me. If he wasn't so weird and shady, I'd probably find him attractive.
"It's nothing." I sighed and he laughed. It was deep and throaty. I could get used to hearing it.
"That's what all women say. If it's because you're going somewhere you've never been, don't worry. I've made sure that people will respect you and leave you alone. You can still go to work and see your family but you'll also be safe." I lay my head back on the seat. I knew he was right but that didn't matter. I regret the decision of coming with him but he did seem moderately trustworthy. I have many people who would love to kill me, so what was I so scared about?
"Why did all this start?" My words were a whisper but he heard me.
"We got word of a rouge pack that was learning your location. It's lead by your cousin-"
"Liam." I said before he could finish. Of course it was him. He was the only werewolf in the family. The rest of the family were human.
"Yes. He wants to take you, and he wants to kill you. My boss just happens to hate Liam. He wants him dead... so it was best for us to take you to live with us. It's the best place for you as of right now. If Liam comes after you, he'll be killed." I smiled. That made this a little bit less scary.
"I'd never be able to kill him myself... so thank you. Tell your boss I said thank you as well. Do you know why Liam wants to come for me?" I was back to looking out the window.
"We think he's after your blood. That's why he wants to kill you, to drain your blood." Quinton seemed on edge, and I rolled my eyes. Of course he was.
"Of course... and all because I accidentally got a transfusion of Black Blood. Gosh I wish I would've sued them for doing that to me." I shook my tears away. They had killed my future when they did that.
"May I ask why you had to have blood?" Quinton cleared his throat, probably thinking he offended me.
"Yeah. I got into a bad car accident, and I was close to death. I was going to have to have multiple surgeries to help my injuries but they were going to give me blood transfusions first. That's when they realized they messed up... all my wounds healed within ten minutes. All because I was given black blood."
"Black blood is pretty much vampire blood, correct?"
"Mmmm pretty much. It's taken from someone who isn't a vampire but has ancestors that were vampires. So they have some vampire blood mixed in with their blood but it's not much. It's enough to pass on it's healing abilities though."
"I'm sorry, Lucia." I laughed sadly. No one understood how many times I've been told that, and it never changed anything.
"Yeah, I am too." With that, the car fell silent.

After about thirty minutes we came to a clearing. The trees stopped and the sky became cloudy.
"Where are we? How long will it take me to get to work from here?" I spoke groggily as I was getting tired.
"We're at our destination. If you go to work, it'll take you less that ten seconds to get there because someone can teleport you there." I looked out of the window as he spoke and immediately knew that whoever his boss was, he/she was rich. A mansion stood in front of us. It was modern in architecture with accents of renaissance style.
"It's beautiful..." I spoke in awe as we came closer to the magnificent building.
"That it is. Boss has always had a good taste." I could hear the smile in his voice. He was proud of who he worked for, and I just hoped that the man wasn't unbearable for I knew I'd have to meet the man "saving" my life.
"Quinton... who exactly do you work for?" I started getting anxious. We were really close to the place now and I could see werewolves prowling the place. How could I tell? They were all gorgeous.
"Do you really want to know sweetheart?" I looked over at him and he now had a sad face on.
"Yes." My eye twitched in anticipation.
"His name is Damien, and he is the vampire alpha."
