Chapter 1

      It was a regular day.

I was driving to work in the early morning hours dressed in tight jeans and a crop top that was required at my job. The sun was just rising, but some couples were already walking the streets. I smiled as the low music played on my radio. This was what I lived for, this was my life, and I wouldn't change it for the world.

I pulled into the parking lot of Zeus' Palace, a karaoke bar on the outskirts of New Jersey. This place had been my second home for years, twelve plus hours spent here taking care of customers every day. I got to hear the people in this city that deserved to become the next famous singer. I got to see drunk people having the time of their lives, escaping from the world even if it's just for a little while. I never liked alcoholics but none of the people that walked into Zeus were violent, they were always happy and smiling. They complimented each other, whether it be a compliment on their outfit or their singing skills. The bar was always full of happy and excited energy. The unlocked door welcomed me and I stepped inside.

"Lucia!" I hear my name being screamed from two different places but I knew exactly who they came from. I was always the last person here and only three of us worked here on weekends. Lance and Toby came running towards me and tackled my form. I let a strangled noise out of my mouth that sounded like a mouse.

"Jesus Christ, what kind of noise was that? I hope you don't make that noise when you have sex." Toby looked at me and I struggled to punch him in the chest.

"Oh, shut up. It's not like you'd ever find out anyway." Smirking I got out of their embrace and walked towards my bar.

"Damn... that was harsh Luci, I really felt that one in my bones. It's aching." I heard Lance snort in an attempt to keep back his laugh. We both knew he was talking about one kind of "bone" and we both knew why it was aching. It always was.

"I don't need you to be turned on by me, okay?" I turned around with my eyebrow raised.

"If you have to, go sort that out. Just don't do it anywhere near me." A small smile found its way onto my face. I knew he was joking, but Lance and I always had fun picking on him.

"Oh fine. Be that way." And with that I heard Lance crack up with laughter from his post at his bar. Toby shook his head in response and headed to the back door which was the actual entrance to the bar.

"Don't forget you have a mate out there waiting for you, my friend!" Lance yelled after him as we both knew he was a werewolf. I heard Toby snort at that. We all knew he hated being a werewolf. Lance, on the other hand was a warlock, and a very talented one at that. He was very proud of his kind.

"I don't think he cares that he has a mate out there somewhere. He'll still fuck anybody who flings themselves at him, which any girl in their right mind would. Except for me of course." I laughed at my own words as I looked at Lance shaking his head, a slight smile on his face.

"That's the sad truth of our best friend, Luci. Sometimes I wish he was different. I know that one day, he may just regret sleeping with every girl in New Jersey." He looked up at me, sincere in his words.

"I know... but we can't do anything about it. It's his choice and we both know that we've tried to change him." I shrugged and kept back my tears. When it came to these two men, they were practically my brothers and I cared for both of them deeply. We met in middle school, and we kept our friendship through high school. We co-owned this place for years together and that just made our friendship stronger. I knew I overreacted at some of their actions, but it was just who I was. I acted tough but was an extremely motherly figure.

"I didn't mean to upset you Luci." I looked up and smiled.

"You didn't. I just wish that he would think before he acts like we do." He nodded and got to work. No more conversation happened between us as people made their way inside the bar. It always surprised me at how many people came into the bar this early, but I always had to remind myself that this bar was the only one open in the early morning.

I looked around the small room, one I had gotten accustomed to. The bar I stood behind matched the one directly across the room, Lance's work station. There was a small doorway heading to the back door next to my bar and a small door leading to the bathrooms and the worker entrance beside Lance's bar. Chairs were scattered in front of a stage that spanned across the whole wall.

(A/N: The image at the top is a line sketch of what the building would look like from above.)

A man sat across from my bar. He smiled and winked at me. It was time to get this day started.

"Time to wrap this joint up!" I shook out of my daydream when I heard Toby screaming at us. I looked up at the clock on the wall.

     Already 3 a.m.

I sighed and started to get everything cleaned up. By the time I was done Toby and Lance had already left. I had to lock up again tonight. I grabbed my keys and phone from where I left them in the safe below the bar.

When I had exited the place, the night seemed still. I hated it, being out this early. It was like life didn't exist on the streets anymore even though I knew some sort of life wondered this late at night/morning.

"Do you always talk to yourself sweetheart?" I gasp and turned around. Sure enough a man dressed in all black stood against the wall of the building.

"Did I really say that out loud?" I ask the figure. I couldn't see his face but I could see a burning cigarette hanging from his mouth.

"No. You were thinking it, but I'm not human."

"You're a warlock, aren't you?" The man laughed in delight.

"Great guess, sweet one. Sadly, you're a little bit off. I'm a fairy." I cocked a brow. Who knew a fairy could be male?

"So... what brings you here at this time?" I ask sweetly, trying to contain my fear. I would've been fine with a warlock, because I'm fine with Lance, but I've never met a fairy.

"You bring me here." My fear escalated.

"Why me?" I had finally made it to my car and I could dash away if I needed to.

"The boss wants you. I have to follow orders." Fuck that.

"Well fuck your boss. I'm not going with you. So tell them to shove their little obsession of me up their ass, okay? Okay. I'll be going now." And with that I opened my door and fell into my car and locked the doors. The figure never left as I started the car and left Zeus.
