Chapter 4
My phone's alarm beeped next to my pillow, sending mild vibrations throughout my bed. I groaned and rolled over, blindly tapping on my phone's screen in hopes that it would shut up. After hopelessly tapping my screen for the fifth time, the beep abruptly cut off. I was never a morning person.
I lay there on my bed; last night's memories playing under my shut eyelids like a movie. Seth dropped me home after midnight but I vaguely remember getting into bed or walking in through my front door. I'm guessing I fell asleep in his car.
Dad would've had a mini heart attack, probably assuming I was unconscious because I was drunk.
My alarm began beeping again. I sighed and grabbed it. Finally giving in, I opened my eyes and shut the alarm off.
I checked through my messages and found one by someone named 'sexiest man I know.' My eyebrows pulled in together and I clicked the pop up to see a message saying 'Good morning, sunshine ;)'
I had a strong suspicion about who this person could be but I didn't want to entertain him by replying to his message so I simply ignored it.
I rolled off my bed and grumpily walked to my bathroom. Sticking my toothbrush in my mouth, I walked towards my closet to decide on what to wear. Sometimes I wished we had school uniforms; I wouldn't have to wake up every morning and make sure I have something different to wear. That would also mean that I wouldn't have to go shopping with Kyla regularly.
I grabbed the first thing I found and left it on my bed. Taking a quick shower, I pulled my clothes on and went down for breakfast.
Dad was sitting on the kitchen counter with his newspaper in his hands while his coffee was getting cold in front of him. I sat next to him and tapped his mug with the ring on my finger. He looked up and gave me a smile while picking up his mug.
"Morning," I said as mom placed a mug full of coffee in front of me.
"Good morning," she responded, returning to the bacon simmering on the pan.
I felt my stomach lurch. I absolutely hated bacon first thing in the morning. I was probably the only person on this planet who felt this way because everyone who knows this about me gave me their shocked looks when they found out.
I wrinkled my nose and inhaled my coffee to cover the smell of the coffee. I checked my phone and realized today was the day Kian was coming back!
Kian was my other best friend along with Kyla. He had to go visit his grandma since she was terribly ill. He is possibly the sweetest guy I've met so far. He may be cocky and way too hyper to the rest of the world but to me and Kyla, he's simply Kian. It's a shame he's gay.
I decided to text him, asking him if he was going to come to school today. Awaiting a response for a few minutes, I gave up.
This was probably what 'sexiest man I know' did too, my brain interrupted.
I really don't like the part of my brain that seems to question my decisions very often.
Mom, dad and I have breakfast in silence. We were never the kind of family who gossiped while having breakfast and updated one another on their lives. We usually had silent mornings.

Kyla and I were talking near my locker when I saw Kian approaching us. My eyes lit and seeing this, Kyla turned around.
"Hello ladies," Kian said, nearing us with a grin.
We had a mini group hug and pulled apart quickly.
"How's your Grandma now?" I asked.
He squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head. Kyla and I exchanged a nervous look. I hope it's not what I think it is. His grandma's not...dead, is she?
"My grandma is possibly the most cunning person I know," he said.
"Why?" Kyla asked hesitantly.
"It turns out, she was not 'ill,'" he said, making air quotes around the word 'ill.' "She was just faking it so that we would go visit her."
My eyebrows shot up. "Your mom wouldn't have been happy."
"She was furious," he said. "She gave grandma a lecture on how she had to take a leave from her office and I had to skip school and that we were worried sick. She didn't even talk to her the entire day."
Kyla hissed. All of us know Kian's mom's always on edge- ready to explode any minute; her work is pretty much her first priority. "It must've been awkward, then."
"Nope," he said with a laugh. "Thanks to grandma I got to skip a week full of Trig. While mom was busy going through her rage mode, I made grandma bake every desert possible. She even taught me how to make homemade marshmallows. Next time we have a sleepover, I'm getting the marshmallows."
"Wow," I said. "Sounds fun."
"Plus the guys in my hometown are so masculine and good-looking. Nothing compared to the dorks here." He laughed.
I laughed along with him. I bet Kyla's missed Kian. I'm not the type to get excited over boys with her so Kian always seemed to balance us out.
"I'm going to head to class, see you guys," I said as soon as Kyla began repeating what Derrick did for Valentine's Day for her.
Kian was so engrossed in her story that they didn't even acknowledge me. I rolled my eyes and began walking away. I had barely walked for a minute when someone fell in step with me.
I looked to my right to see Seth casually walking next to me. He looked back at me and smiled.
"You know, it takes a lot of effort for a guy to text a girl first thing in the morning," he said with a small smile playing on his lips.
"That was you?" I decided to play dumb. "Sorry, the contact name was extremely misleading."
"Ouch," he said.
I smirked and reached over to pat his shoulder. "It's okay."
I turned left down the hallway and he turned right. A moment later, I heard him yell, "Have a good day, sunshine!"
My eyes widened as a few heads turned to face me. I did not like attention especially not because of a guy. I shut my eyes and pretended that it did not affect and continued walking down the hallway till I reached my class.
I do not understand why Seth has taken a sudden interest in me. He never seemed to show any signs of likeness or interest in me earlier.
Whatever it is, I am not enjoying it.

Kian, Kyla and I were sitting in the canteen when Kian brought up Seth.
"So Ava," Kian began. "Kyla tells me you have a boyfriend."
I choked on the Coke I was sipping. I almost snorted it out of my nose, disrupting my taste for it.
"What?" I managed to ask while coughing.
The satisfied grin on their faces wasn't making me feel any better.
"Mr. Seth, is it?" Kian inquired.
I shot him a glare. "He's just a friend. Actually, he's not even a friend. He's pretty much someone I went on a blind date with, which happened to be on Valentine's Day."
"Well, you can shut me up but you can't shut up those girls in the toilet," Kian said, shrugging.
I looked at him, confused. "How do you know what gossip goes around in the girl's toilet?"
"I keep up with gossip and the 'girl's toilet gossip' is the juiciest," he responded with a grin.
Sadly, that was true. You never know what you're going to hear while sitting on the toilet bowl, trying to poop.
"Oh please," I said. "That gossip is the most ridiculous and unreliable piece of crap that goes around."
Kian gave up, raising his arms up in surrender and leaned back in his chair.
I don't know what's worse; the fact that I was being talked about in the girl's toilet or the fact that it was about me and Seth.

I was waiting in the lonely parking lot after school, waiting for Kyla to come since she had offered me a ride home but as Derrick was busy the whole day, I bet she's spending some 'quality time' with him in a deserted section in the Library.
I sighed and glanced at my watch again while leaning against her car. There was a few cars parked around me but other than that, the carpark was pretty much empty. A car rolled by and halted after going a bit forward. It reversed and stopped by Kyla's car.
Despite wanting to peek through the driver's window to see who it was, I looked away. That was till I heard the car door open and someone step out.
I turned to see Seth-of course it's him- with his arm resting on the rim of the door. He had a pair of glasses on that made him look quite appealing.
"Car trouble?" he asked.
"No," I responded, hoping the conversation would end there.
Instead, Seth shut the door to his car and walked to me. I groaned inwardly.
Why can't he just leave me alone?
"Then why are you standing alone in this empty parking lot," he questioned, leaning against Kyla's car next to me.
"None of your concern," I said coolly.
"Fair enough," he said, nodding.
Silence enveloped us again. He may have given me a special night but that was it. If he expects that one night to escalate into something romantic then he's wrong.
"Can I ask you something?" he asked.
It's not like he's not going to ask me even if I say no so I nodded.
"Why do you not like me?" he questioned. "As a friend, that is."
I sighed and stood up straight, opposite to him, to look at him. "It's not that I don't like you. We just don't know each other enough for me to even decide whether I like you or not."
"True," he agreed. "We should get to know each other then."
Do I really want to do that?
No. The answer is no.
"I don't understand why you're so persistent," I said, rolling my eyes.
He chuckled. "I don't give up easily."
"I've noticed," I deadpanned.
"Come to my bike race tonight," he said, leaning off the car too and taking a step towards me.
I didn't move back, though.
I've heard about the 'friendly' bike races that take place amongst some of the people in our school. It's usually in some random alley-ways or abandoned places. They never seemed to perk my interest; seeing people bike while groups of teenagers cheered with a constant supply of booze.
"I'm good, thank you," I said, craning my neck to look up at him.
He took another step towards me. We were the length of a baby's foot apart and I did not like the close proximity. He reached into his jacket and pulled out a piece of paper. He offered it to me, holding it in between his index finger and middle finger.
"What's this?" I asked him, eyeing the paper.
"The address to where the race is going to be held," he said.
"I don't think you heard me correctly," I said, as politely as possible. "I'm fine."
He sighed in an exaggerated motion. Reaching around my body, he slipped the tiny piece of paper into my back pocket. My eyes shot up at him, slightly angry.
"Just in case you change your mind," he said and lifted two fingers to his temple and flicked his fingers outwards like a salute.
I stood there with an open mouth as I watched him get into his car and drive away.
What a conceited ass.
A/N- Hello lovelies. Happy Valentine's Day! Well, belated :P I tried to update last night but I fell asleep because I spent the whole day analysing Hitler and his tactics. History is not fun. Ah.
