Chapter 24
Birds were chirping around me, interrupting my peaceful sleep. I snuggled into the jacket that seemed to have been carefully placed on top of me and tried to find the perfect position on Seth's chest. I managed to stay like that for a few minutes before I felt someone's fingers on my face. Blinking a few times, I opened my eyes to find myself staring at Seth. My boyfriend: Seth.
He brushed his fingers across my cheek and proceeded to tuck my hair behind my ear. Smiling at him, I wrapped my arms around him. He kissed the top of my head in response. We stayed like that for a few minutes before I pulled away and removed the jacket that was on top of me and gave it back to him.
"You can keep it, it's quite a chilly morning," he said in the morning voice that was the definition of sexy.
"Morning?" I exclaimed, sitting upright instantly.
Judging by my surroundings, we were still on roof of the abandoned building. My head whipped to look at Seth's sleepy face.
"Get up!" I exclaimed, standing up and offering him my hand. "If my parents find out I'm gone, I'm screwed. I'm grounded as it is."
Laughing, he grabbed my hand and pulled himself up.
"Why are you laughing?" I questioned, annoyed.
"You're just so cute," he commented, placing his arms on my waist and pulled me closer to him.
His head lowered and his lips came closer to mine. Stepping back, I shook my head.
"I probably have bad breath," I explained and turned around to walk towards the door.
I could hear his laughter as he followed me. Once we reached down, we mounted his bike and I urged him to ride as fast as he could because I'd rather get involved in an accident with Seth than have my parents get mad at me again.
When we reached my driveway, I got off Seth's bike and said, "You should go. I'll see you in school tomorrow."
Instead of doing what I instructed, he just had to pull me closer to him. Since my lips were off-limits due to bad breath, he kissed my forehead and let his lips linger there.
Of course that was just the right time for the front door to open and my dad to catch me.
"Ava?" he called out, making me put some distance between me and Seth.
"I'll see you later, bye," I muttered quickly to Seth and speed walked to the front door.
"Where were you?" he asked, glaring down at me. "You know very well that you were grounded. Were you with that boy last night?"
"Dad, it was nothing," I replied, not wanting to explain further.
I pushed past him and walked into the house to see my mom sipping on a coffee mug while leaning against the kitchen counter. She put it down instantly and walked towards me.
"Answer me, Ava," he demanded. "Where were you last night?"
"Nowhere!" I exclaimed, shrugging. "Seth just showed up. He needed to talk."
"Seth?" he questioned. "Isn't that the boy who pushed all of you to prank the teachers?"
I looked away, choosing to not answer him.
"You are not allowed to see him from now on," he declared, making raise my eyebrows at him. "He's a bad influence in your life and you don't need that."
"What makes you think I'm going to do what you want?" I challenged, frustrated.
"Do not test my patience, Ava," his voice boomed as he stepped closer to me.
"Dad, you barely even know him! You haven't even seen him properly, let alone speak to him to judge whether or not he's a good or bad influence," I explained, trying my best to not show I was intimidated by him.
"Do not argue with me," he stated. "Go up to your room."
I stared right into eyes for a few seconds and shook my head in annoyance.
"Now!" he shouted, making me cringe visibly.
Frowning, I walked past both of them and made my way to my room. Why do I have such bad luck? Why is it that I always get caught? All I had to do was talk to Seth and come back home before sunrise.
I felt a slow smile form on my face. Just thinking about him made me feel giddy. Not going to lie, I can't wait for Carla to find out. It's going to be a slap full of jealousy in her face.
Okay, no, this is really immature of me. I'm not going to do anything. If I were to put myself in her shoes and if someone else dated my ex whilst I was still on good terms with him, the pang of jealousy would not be abnormal.
Anyway, I need to set things straight with my parents. It was my fault and I need to apologise in a way that won't destroy my ego.
*
The next morning, I got up before my parents and waited for Kyla to pick me up outside the house. Yes, I know this isn't how I'll be able to apologise to my parents but I can't face them without having a plan.
Kyla's car came into view and walked closer to the car as it came to a stop.
"Hey," I said, opening the door.
"What's wrong?" she asked as I settled in the seat.
"My parents are pissed at me again," I mumbled.
"What'd you do now?" she questioned in a tone that made me want to roll my eyes.
"I got caught with Seth," I said in a quiet voice.
The car stopped on a red light as she turned to look at me. "What? Mind backtracking a bit?"
Sighing, I proceeded to tell her the story in extreme detail since Kyla wouldn't accept it any other way.
Squealing, she hit the steering wheel in excitement. "Yes, finally! It took that dumbass boy so long to come to terms with his feelings for you. Oh my god, we can go on double dates now and do all the cute stuff two couples do together."
I stared at her with a raised eyebrow. "Yeah, I'll pass."
She chuckled in response. "Good luck with that. You know I'm going to force you anyway."
Once Kyla had effortlessly parked her car, we made our way to our lockers. As we neared our lockers, I noticed someone leaning against my locker with the foot pressed against it.
"Ooo, look who that is," Kyla commented, making me blush.
He had a pair of black jeans and sneakers on with a sky blue shirt which was surprising since I don't think I've ever seen him in such bright coloured clothing. Ever.
"Please do not make such comments in front of him," I muttered loud enough for her to hear.
She laughed loudly, causing Seth to look up from his phone and look at me. An instant smile came upon his face as he stepped away from my locker. He pulled me into his arms as soon as I reached him and snuggled his face in the crook of my neck.
"Hi," he whispered.
"Hey," I whispered back, smiling.
He pulled back but still held my shoulders. "Was everything alright with your dad?"
"I guess, not really, it's okay," I said with a shrug.
He sighed. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have forced you to come with me."
"No, its okay, I agreed to it," I responded. "It'll be fine eventually."
"Did I miss something?" Derrick asked slowly as he walked towards us along with Kian.
Seth grinned while placing his arm around my waist and pulling me closer to him.
Kian's eyes widened as he noticed this gesture. His gaze lifted to meet mine.
"No," he said in a low voice. When I smiled in response, his eyes widened even more. "Really? Oh my god, I'm so happy! My ship has sailed! My ship has finally sailed!"
"Do you know what he's talking about?" Seth whispered in my ear.
"Nope, just smile and don't question him. You'll get used to it," I replied back, making him chuckle.
Mason approached us and did the weird boy hi-5/hug thing with Seth, Derrick and Kian. It was always so amusing to watch, not going to lie.
"I see the two of you worked things out," he commented. "About time."
The bell rang, interrupting our little session. I quickly opened my locker and grabbed the books I needed. As I was about to walk away, Seth grabbed my arm and stopped me.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
He shook his head and leaned in to give me a quick kiss.
"See you later," he mumbled and walked away, leaving me breathless.
I watched him walk away from me for a few moments before I made my way to class with a small smile on my face.
*
During break, I walked towards the lockers to drop my books and look for Seth.
I did find him...talking to Carla.
Okay, no, I am not going to be one of those possessive, jealous girlfriends. She's one of his friends and he can talk to her...right?
Before I reached him, Carla began walking away. Seth looked up to see me and shot me a smile.
"What was that about?" I asked, trying to sound as casual as possible.
He shrugged. "We just got talking. She asked me about us and not going to lie, it was quite awkward."
I forced a laugh as we walked together. We made our way to the canteen and sat on the table I usually sit at after we bought some food. All of a sudden, our table seemed crowded. Instead of just Kyla, Kian and I and occasionally Derrick, we had an addition of Seth and Mason.
It was oddly nice.
"How have your parents been with you guys after the whole prank and detention thing?" Kyla asked with a mouthful of salad.
"Well, mine have been like the typical soap opera parents. Grounded me and had a long talk with me then got mad at me again," I droned on.
"Mine haven't been taking it well either," Derrick said. "They took away my video game privileges."
"I'm actually thankful for that. At least you won't ignore my calls and messages now," Kyla responded.
"Surprisingly enough, my parents have been very understanding," Kian spoke up. "They let me explain and everything. We just had one talk and that was that."
"Lucky," I mumbled.
"My dad's actually proud of me," Seth said. "My mom, on the other hand..."
"Mine's the other way round," Mason commented.
I sighed and continued munching on a potato. "But you know what, it was totally worth it."
"Agreed," Mason said with a grin while everyone else nodded.
Once we were done with our meals, we went our own ways. Seth pulled me into his arms and said, "I want to take you out on a date which isn't awkward and doesn't end with you pushing a girl into a fountain."
I pressed my forehead against his chest in embarrassment. "Can we not talk recall my not-so-amazing memories?"
He chuckled and kissed the top of my head. "I still want to take you out."
"I'm grounded," I said.
"Not forever," he responded.
"True," I agreed with a nod. "I have to go for class."
He sighed and stepped back, giving me space to go. "We barely have any classes together."
"We do have detention, though," I said, grinning.
"That makes us sound like this badass couple," he said, making me laugh.
Standing on my tiptoes, I leaned forward to give him a kiss on his rosy cheek.
"Bye," I said and began walking away when I noticed Tyler standing there.
Oh shit.
