Chapter 19
"Ava," Carla called out in a rushed voice, interrupting my sleep. "Mrs. Delia is calling all of us, we have to go."
I sat upright in an instant, causing everything around me to spin before it settled back into place. Carla was wrapping a fluffy pink robe around her when I stood up.
"We're in deep sh*t, aren't we?" I asked after clearing my throat.
"Most likely," she said, raking a hand through her already flawless hair.
"Let's go," I said, slipping my feet into my flip flops and making my way out followed by Carla.
"Where's Kyla?" I asked.
"Derrick came to call us so she went ahead with him," she answered and I nodded in response.
That means Seth is going to be there too. Realizing that, I ran my hand through my tangled, bed hair. I probably even had drool on my face for all I knew. I touched my fingers around my mouth just to be sure.
We reached the teacher's trailer where everyone else was already waiting for us. Mrs. Delia was standing outside in a dull, grey robe with her arms crossed over her chest and she did not look happy.
Seth was there, too. He had messy bed hair which definitely looked a lot more appealing than mine. His thin t-shirt clung to his body while his sweatpants hung low on his waist. As if realizing someone was looking at him, his eyes flicked up and met mine. Flushing from embarrassment of being caught, I looked away.
"Do any of you want to explain this?" she questioned, gesturing to the trailer.
The trailer really did look horrible. There was white foam everywhere- coating the walls, the floor, the ceiling. The perfect string in the bathroom was hanging from two sides with a pathway in between. They probably cut through it. The beds were leaning against the trailer, which made me smirk but I quickly straightened my face.
None of us responded to her question.
"I know all of you did this," she said in a scarily calm voice. "Do you want to get expelled from school?"
"Miss, you have no proof that we did this which, we did not," Mason spoke up.
"I don't need any proof after catching all of you prank each other just last night," she said, glaring daggers at Mason.
"Exactly," Kyla said. "Why would we be dumb enough to do this after being caught last night? We're already in enough trouble as it is."
Mrs. Delia considered Kyla's explanation but still didn't seem convinced enough. "I may not have any so called evidence that all of you were responsible for this but I am certain that you are. The consequences will be bad."
"We didn't do it, Miss!" Kian exclaimed.
Wow, we're basically lying to her face.
"We'll discuss that later," she declared. "As for now, I expect all of you clear this mess."
All of us began protesting all together and she raised her hand to shut us up. "No complaints. Consider this another part of your punishment for what you did yesterday."
Brilliant.

All of us were exhausted the next morning. The prank backfired on us pretty bad. What made the whole cleaning up even more annoying was Kian and Carla's constant whining. To top that off, Seth continued being mute towards me and pretending that I didn't exist.
"Did you get everything?" Kian asked as we waited for the buses to arrive.
I nodded.
When the buses arrived, we left our suitcases in the trunk and made our way in. Kian was in front of me as we squeezed through to find a place to sit. As we were walking, I spotted Carla and Seth sitting together. He looked at me and I stared back while Carla was busy talking about something which Seth was paying no attention to. For once, I had his attention instead of her.
That didn't last too long because he looked back at her eventually and began nodding at what she was saying.
Kian and I slipped into two empty spots and made ourselves comfortable.
"So," Kian said, clapping his hands. "We haven't had time to catch in so long. What's going on with Seth?"
It's only been three days, I wanted to say but I averted my gaze instead since this was one of the topics I wanted to avoid.
"Not good?" he inquired.
I shook my head.
"You like him, don't you?" he questioned, making him look at him.
Am I an open book? Or do Kyla and Kian just know me that well?
"How'd you know?" I asked.
"Usually when I bring up Seth, you shut me up or roll your eyes or frown but this time, you became all sad and quiet," he answered. "It's pretty easy to read you, Ava."
I rolled my eyes in response, making him grin.
"He kissed me," I said.
"He what?" he exclaimed loudly, making me wince and people around us to look at us.
I pressed my index fingers to my lips and shushed him. Oh my god, what if Seth heard him?
"He what?" he repeated himself, quieter this time.
"It doesn't matter," I brushed him off. "He regrets it so the kiss probably made him realise he didn't actually like me."
"What?" he asked, again.
"Stop saying what," I said.
"Details. Now," he demanded.
The bus began moving finally, taking us away from the camp and its bittersweet memories. Once we reach back, I can return to my normal routine without Seth and Carla in my life. As much as I wanted Seth to be around, I knew it wasn't the right choice. It would end up with me getting hurt and then taking forever to get over him. Besides, he's made it quite clear that he doesn't want me around so it's best if I distance myself from him.
Sighing, I started telling Kian everything.

Mom and Dad were already waiting for me when the bus reached school. Waving at them, I gestured towards the trunk to indicate that I was going to get my suitcase. They nodded and I made my way through the crowd.
When I finally reached the front, Seth was there. I reached forward and struggled to get my suitcase. Noticing that, Seth grabbed it for me and set it on the ground.
"Thanks," I mumbled, not daring to look at him.
I was about to leave when someone grabbed my arm. I whipped around to find myself staring into Seth's deep brown eyes. I could feel warmth from where his fingers were wrapped around me.
"I'm sorry," he said, still not letting go of my arm.
"You don't have to be," I murmured, lowering my gaze to the floor.
"I never meant to hurt you, Ava," he said, making me look at him again. His eyes searched my face and eventually, landed on my lips but for a very brief second.
"I have to go," I said and pulled my arm out of his grip. Breaking away from the crowd, I walked towards my parents.
I took deep breaths to ensure that I didn't start crying. I could feel a lump in my throat for some odd reason.
"Hi honey!" mom exclaimed, pulling me in an embrace.
"Hey," I tried saying as brightly as I could.
"How was the trip?" dad asked.
"Good," I replied with a tight smile.
"Ready to go home?" mom questioned.
I nodded in response. I was in no mood to stay and say bye to anyone.

The next morning, I woke up feeling much better emotionally and physically but I had no interest in going to school. I'm sure mom and dad would allow me to skip but I didn't want to risk Mrs. Delia mailing my parents about the pranks.
Mom had cooked bacon, scrambled eggs and sausages for breakfast which helped me lighten my mood. Food is always the answer.
After breakfast, mom dropped me to school. She's been asking me so many questions about the trip, it's making it more and more difficult to forget it.
"Hey!" Kyla said as I neared my locker. "Where did you vanish off to yesterday? We were planning to have a movie night."
"Oh, I had to leave," I responded, shrugging.
"What's wrong?" she questioned even though she probably already knew the answer.
"Nothing," I said and reached forward to open my locker.
"If this is about Seth, I can give him a black eye if you want and if this is about seeing the principal today then don't worry, we'll be fine," she said, leaning against the locker next to mine.
"Nothing's wrong," I tried again.
"Fine," she replied, letting go. "We need to be at his office at 8:30."
I glanced at my watch to see it was 8:17. At least we get to miss the first class.
"Let's go then," I said and we started walking.
Kian, Derrick and Carla were already sitting outside. Derrick smiled when he saw Kyla and stood up to give her a kiss. Their kiss made me think about my kiss with Seth.
Why is everything reminding me of him!
Eventually, Seth and Mason showed up and it took everything in me to not look at him. Was what I did wrong? Should I have heard what he had to say yesterday instead of leaving?
He probably thinks I'm a bitch now anyway. He was trying to be nice and I walked away.
"Mr. Harvey will see you now," a lady came out and told us.
Exchanging a look with Kian, we walked in quietly.
"Good morning," he said, sounding surprisingly cheerful. He was wearing a grey suit, which matched his greying hair.
We mumbled back a greeting in unison.
"I've heard all of you have caused a lot of trouble for Mrs. Delia over the trip," he said, his tone changing to serious suddenly. "This was not what I expected from a group of responsible young adults."
I concentrated on my shoes and noticed my laces and how worn off they were.
"Mrs. Delia has made it very clear she wants some serious action to be taken and I agree with her," he said. "All of you have to attend detention for the whole of next month. You may be expected to do some community service as well. Along with this, a mail will be sent to your parents informing them about your irresponsible behaviour."
"What!" Carla exclaimed and instantly shut her mouth when Mr. Harvey shot her a hard look.
"Any objections, Ms. Carla?" he questioned.
She shook her head in response.
"Then it's settled," he said, clasping his hands together. "Thank you very much. You may leave."
We exited quietly without thanking him. Once Derrick shut the door behind him, everyone erupted into complaints.
"This sucks!" Carla whined. "I have better things to do with my time."
I seemed to be the only one that was quiet. Honestly, what did they expect, Mr. Harvey to greet us with a bouquet of flowers and express how proud he was of our innovative ideas?
"I'll see you guys later," I said, interrupting everyone's whining. Making sure to not look at Seth, I turned around and walked to my room.
Just yesterday I told myself that I wanted to distance myself from Seth. A month long detention isn't the way to do that.
This is simply perfect, I said to myself sarcastically.
A/N- Happy New Year! How was your New Year's Eve? Did you kiss that special someone at midnight? :3
Sadly for me, I spent my time studying and then skyping with my best friend and watching New Girl. This is what happens when your exams are in a week. FML.
Anyway, did you guys like the chapter? Yes, Ava may be overreacting a bit but it sucks when the guy you like kisses you and then decides to hide inside his shell.
