Chapter 13

"What happened?" I heard Kyla exclaim. "Are you alright? How did that happen?"

Sitting up groggily with squinting eyes, I saw Kyla standing above my bed.

"Seth happened," I murmured, reaching for my phone to check the time.

"What did he do now?" she asked, sighing and sitting on my bed.

So I began telling Kyla about my eventful day leaving out the irritation with Carla because I didn't want her input on this particular situation. Much to my annoyance, she had an amused expression on her face while she was listening to me.

"Seth is quite charming," she commented, pulling her towel out from her handbag. "Are you in pain?"

"Well, I've sleeping so I don't know," I said and slowly tried to move my foot, wincing. Yep, I am in pain. Kyla came towards me and helped me sit up. I groaned and let my head hit the pillow. "This is so unfair! Seth Riley cannot just stroll into my life and ruin my last trip with my best friends and he most definitely cannot have the upper hand in a prank war against us. As for his dumb ex, why did we even try being nice to her in the first place?"

Kyla stared at me for a moment because of my sudden outburst, contemplating what to say next. Eventually, she said, "Calm down. I have some painkillers and a spray. You'll feel better in no time."

I nodded, resting my foot on the floor. Okay, I wasn't going to let some messed up couple ruin my trip. She came back with the tablet and a can of spray. Handing me the tablet, she sat down and slowly lifted my foot into her lap as I sat there trying to not show pain.

What kind of sprain hurts this much? Did that idiot fracture my foot instead?

As Kyla gently unwrapped the bandage wrap, I grabbed my bottle of water from the floor and swallowed the pill.

"What did I miss today?" I inquired as she sprayed something cold on my sore ankle.

She shrugged and said, "Not much. Ignoring the fact that Derrick may have helped Seth with the prank on us, I decided to just spend a good day with him, which it was. Kian, though, was such a third wheel."

I chuckled causing Kyla to relax a bit. She was probably on edge on what to say with my sudden outburst. Sighing inwardly, I waited till she finished wrapping my bandage wrap.

"You want to get some dinner?" she asked, standing up. "Everyone's already there."

"Yes but first," I responded, glancing up at her. "I have something in mind to get back at the boys."

A slow smirk appeared on Kyla's face and she eagerly sat on my bed, waiting for me to continue. So I did. After I finished, she sat in front of me with a proud smile on her face. "I have raised you well, my child."

I grinned at her in response. "We need the material for the prank, though and I don't know where to get that from."

"Leave that to me," she said, winking in a playful manner. "You do realise we're going to have to repeat all of this to Carla right? We should've just waited for her."

"No," I replied a bit too quickly. "No, we're not involving her in this."

"What, why?" she questioned, her eyebrows pulling in in confusion.

"Because I happen to dislike her," I explained in a tone that signalled that she shouldn't push this.

She opened her mouth in protest but decided against it and slumped instead; smart decision. After I pulled a pair of shorts on, we left the trailer for dinner. I seemed to be getting better at walking or rather, limping. The pain had definitely reduced compared to this morning.

We reached the dining area and almost everyone was already there. Kian, Derrick and Mason were sitting together and seemed to be engaged in deep conversation while on their opposite were Seth and Carla. She was still in her bikini top with a towel on her shoulders along with jean shorts. In contrast to this morning, the two of them seemed surprisingly happy and touchy. Her body was angled towards him while her hand clutched onto his shoulder as she was laughing loudly with Seth chuckling as well. Her head dropped onto his shoulder as she continued to shake with laughter.

They totally looked like a couple who had broken up quite recently and had loads of tension, hatred and hurt between them. Note the sarcasm.

"Are you going to just stand there?" Kyla interrupted my obvious staring session.

My expression changed, making me realise that I was frowning this whole time.

"Are you in pain?" she asked, concerned.

I nodded. It was better than being caught staring at a guy who I did not like...I think. "It's okay, I'll be fine."

Absentmindedly, I put some food onto my plate and followed Kyla to the one table I wish I didn't have to sit at. As we neared the table, Seth looked up to see me and immediately stood up, leaving Carla mid-conversation to help me. For some aggravating reason, that made me slightly happy.

"Hey, how are you doing?" he asked, grabbing onto my arm to help me walk, which only annoyed me further.

Jerking my arm away, I said, "I'm no damsel in distress, Seth. I can walk myself."

Sudden silence fell over our table as they noticed that I was actually upset. Ignoring Seth's confused and hurt face, I walked past him and sat on the other end of the table, far away from where he was.

I didn't bother to ease the awkward silence. I was in no mood for anything except pranking the guys back.

"So, how was today for you?" Kyla asked in general, breaking the silence.

Sighing, I quietly shoved food into my mouth. I knew he was looking at me the entire time I sat there and he got lucky that I didn't decide to send a fork flying to his face. At least he knew not to be his cocky self and make a joke out of this situation.

I was overjoyed when dinner was over and we were told to return to our trailers. Kyla waited for Carla but she told us that she wanted to 'hang around' for a while and that she'll join us later. Desperate is what I would use to define her.

Once Kyla and I were alone, she said, "I got the stuff."

"You did?" I asked, feeling a sudden shift in my mood.

She pulled out a stack of plastic cups from her huge handbag and waved it in front of my face. "I sneaked it from the pile next to the water dispenser."

Grinning, I gave her a mocking pat on the shoulder. "Well done."

"Now, we wait," I instructed, opening the door to our trailer.

*

Kyla and I had gone to bed long before Carla had returned. Who knew what she was up to and honestly, I had no interest in knowing either. We woke up in the middle of the night and sneaked out of the trailer. The camp counsellors were really bad at their job seeing how easy it was to roam around after hours.

"Okay, since you're handicap, I will go inside and do all the badass stuff while you play my sidekick," Kyla said as we walked towards the boys' trailer.

Rolling my eyes, I responded, "Enjoy while it lasts."

"Your injury?" she questioned and I nodded.

"This is going to be much more difficult to do than the Sharpie whiskers. Let's just hope they're fast asleep," I said, my voice dropping to a whisper as we neared their trailer.

Kyla dropped the huge garbage bag filled with water bottles on the floor with a thud, causing me to glare at her.

"Could you be any louder?" I whisper shouted at her.

Looking at me sheepishly, she pulled out the cups and set them down separately while I began filling them with water. Slowly, she opened the back door to their trailer, which was very conveniently open. If there's anything all of us learn from this, it should be that we need to learn to lock doors.

She tiptoed inside with one cup of water, left it on the floor and returned for another. Eventually, we fell into sync where I would give her cups filled with water and she would arrange them on the floor inside. Covering the entire area took extremely long but we managed and we knew it would be worth it tomorrow morning.

When we were almost done, Kyla took longer than usual to come out which made me anxious. Maybe one of them caught her? Or she tripped over the cups herself...but that wouldn't be possible since I would've heard something.

Just when I was considering going inside, she came out and I let out a breath of relief. Once she shut the door, I whispered, "What happened?"

She held up a finger, indicating for me to wait. Clearing everything from the area, we began making our way back and once we were far away, Kyla finally spoke.

"I saw Derrick's phone so I turned the camera on and set it up," she said with a mischievous smile. "What's the point in pranking someone if you can't witness the outcome?"

"We are literally professional pranksters now," I mused and added, "If that's a thing."

Seth messed with the wrong girls.
