"Ye Sabine! Biade odile san quekim ie mala sing go to mata zumale kez. Ye Sabine! Biade odile San quekim is mala sing go to mata zumalw kez." The sisters of the dark chant simultaneously as they go around in circles. In their middle is a diagram of a circle and a pentagram. A pregnant woman laying down in the middle of the circle. There are black candle with dark flames placed at each end of the five pointed star.
Sabine thrashes on the floor, clearly uncomfortable by the settings, and the pregnancy isn't helping either.
The sisters of the dark stops at each end of the star, and looks down at Sabine as she cries out. They spread their hands out to complete the circle and begin to chant. "Ail Bil Dil Gil Lil." Sabine bends her knee and raises her head up to scream, more loud than I've heard.
I can't watch this. It's too painful for me. She's in pain and from the settings I can tell this is the day they rip me out of her stomach. I close my eyes, can't bear to watch her in pain anymore.
Moments later, I notice everything goes quiet around me. Opening my eyes slowly, I realize I'm no longer in the mansion's basement but in an abandoned building. It's too dark and quiet.
"Where exactly is this place?" I whisper and decide to take a tour of the place. Seeing the severed heads of different creatures, some that I've never seen before. I come to a stop when I step into a puddle of blood. Slowly, I raise my head up to see a body hung upside down, the chains wrapped around his legs goes way up that I don't think there's an end. The more I keep stare, the more dizzy I get.
Swallowing hard, I look down and rush past the hallway, looking left and right for a door. Any door. I see one at the end of the hallway, a familiar wooden door. I stop in front of the door and pull the door, it cracks as it opens. Clearing all thought from my mind, I step into the room and part my lips in shock at the sight in front of me.
A man is chained to a wall at his neck, hand and legs. His face is swollen and bloody, his wound looks fresh. Another man stands tall in front of him holding a knife. I'll be damned if I don't recognize that knife. It's Arihmatheo but a different Arihmatheo. He looks younger here and his scar is nowhere to be found. His eyes are brown instead the black I'm used to.
"What the fuck do think you are doing?!" I slam the door and charge at him.
When I get to his front, he looks indifferent like he can't see me. He raise his blade and stab the man's shoulder before dragging the knife down. A gasp in horror as the blood gush out. The man doesn't make a sound, I look at his face and see some familiarity, but it's hard to tell who he is from the swollen and bloody face.
Arihmatheo takes a closer to get a good look at the wound. "I thought your blood kill people. I heard it sucks the life out of them and add to yours."
The wounded man laughs in broken way before it turns into cough. "Why- why don't you release me and I'll gladly show you what my blood can do." For someone who is dying, he really knows how to speed up the process by angering the person torturing him.
Arihmatheo smiles and leans closer. He says, "I won't kill you now, I will make you watch as I kill Sabine and your precious daughter."
This confirms the familiarity. The man chained up is Eric, my biological father. Eric's smile fades into anger. "Touch them, Arihmatheo. Touch them I dare you." He threatens.
Arihmatheo nods. "You don't have to dare me. I'm going to do it...your majesty," he says mockingly.
Eric laughs and nods. "I believe you but let me remind you that I'm not human, you might want to get a bigger chain to hold me," he says and breaks his right hand free from the chain, his hand moves swiftly and claw Arihmatheo's face.
He staggers back while holding his face as he cries in pain, Eric uses the time to break free and escape the place, passing through me as he makes his way out.
"What the hell just happened?" Exactly what happened.
"It's okay!" My eyes snap open, I remove my head from the table and rub my face as I try to register where I am, still in the dorm kitchen, I must have fallen asleep after talking our plans through.
"What were you dreaming about?" This familiar voice sends chill all over me, causing goosebumps to erupts. I'm only wearing peach camisole, my jacket is on the table beside me but I know the chill isn't from the cold.
"What are you doing here?" I ask, glaring at him. I haven't seen Roman since he let Professor Holmes kidnap me and am not ready to talk to him. I haven't fully processed his involvement with them.
I don't bother to look at him as he takes a seat on the bar stool opposite me. He responds, "I know about what's coming and I was hoping we could talk before it gets here."
Of course he wants to talk now.
I roll my eyes. "About?" I mutter.
He sighs and proceeds. "I know I'm your least favorite person at the moment but please just listen to me," he pleads and something about his tone makes me look up to see him. And for the first time since I've known, he looks vulnerable. He was afraid they day I went to confront him about his involvement in my parents death. He isn't the Roman I knew when I first got here. And I'd like to know what's going on. How did he get involved in all this.
"You got five seconds." I only say that to keep myself from sounding curious. He owes me the full story.
He places his forearms on the counter and leans forward. "I come from a family of Gemini witches. My parents, my sisters, they are all from the gemini coven. I'm a scorpio," he tells me like I don't know.
"And that has to do with me because..." moving on.
"In our world I'm an outcast, an outsider. I didn't fit in anywhere, mostly because the scorpio have gone extinct. No matter where I went, no matter where I am, I was always looking over my shoulder because I was one of my kind. My parents worked for the high lord, your Grandfather." This is the first he's openly admit that he knows who I really am, he's always known.
He continues. "One day he invited all coven leaders and their families to celebrate the witch day in his mansion. I didn't want to go because I knew I wouldn't fit in but my mom convinced me to go, so I went with my sisters. When I got there, people started asking about my other half but I'm not a gemini wizard and didn't know what to tell them, so I just told the truth. It started a conflict. The scorpio has always been hard and stubborn even when they existed, they created so many problems. They didn't join the witches counsel. They were separated from the magical world until they were all wiped out of existence. So others view scorpios as outcast before of that. I never it ran deeper for the high lord.
"I was hiding from everyone after I saw the way they were looking at me. I stumbled into a room but I couldn't get in because of a barrier spell. I got curious and broke the spell, and that's when I saw your mother. I know the minute my eyes connected with her that she's a scorpio. She didn't look good and I could tell that she was gone. I wanted to save her but I couldn't get to her. The spell guarding her was heavy and I wasn't powerful enough. I tried to penetrate her mind but it was blank, too blank like there's nothing there. I got curious and looked around the room, where I saw pictures of you. They're much like someone took them specifically for your mom but I could tell she didn't look at them. Your name is in every picture and I figured you might be scorpio so I vowed I would look for you.
"The high lord found me and was happy with me snooping, sticking my nose into his personal affair. He was going to kill me but Arihmatheo convinced him that I would be useful being the last scorpio and all, so he spared my life and bought me from my parents. Apparently that's what your grandfather does, he buys kids and train them ruthless to become his errand boy. He made Arihmatheo train me. Not long after, I met Sebastian, he told me about Dean and this school. The initial plan was to infiltrate the school, get close to Dean to find you until I saw my sisters, they were going here and I was happy that forgot all about the plan. Sebastian used them as leverage. Do what they want and my sisters live.
"Everything I did was forced by Sebastian, he and his father are obsessed about finding you and when they did, they didn't know how to strike because you didn't know anything. I got closer to you to learn what you knew but the more time I spend with you the more I think about the promise I made to myself. I'm sorry for lying to you. I'm sorry about your parents, I swear I had nothing to do with it. I'm sorry for everything."
"What changed?" I ask instead of asking the real question, does he know what happened to my mom? How she is doing. If she speaks of me? But I choose to ask Roman about his feelings.
He is also a pawn in their game like me, too bad his parents are just a pathetic excuse for humans, well in their case witches. I can't believe they sold him and I can't believe I believe him.
He breaks eye contact and stares down at his hands. "Everything changed when we did magic together. I loved how I felt, you know? Doing magic with one of my own. I didn't have the heart to betray you and I can't tell you about your mom because they are watching me. So I just kept pushing you away," He whispers and a single tear rolls down his cheek.
I don't know what to say.
"Roman, it's a lot to take in. Thank you for telling me everything. You told me everything right?" I eye him as I await his answer.
He nods with hesitating. "That's it."
"What's your problem with Damian?" I ask and he tenses, his guilty expression break the tension.
"Damian knows my intentions aren't pure. He has–"
Jessica busts into the kitchen interrupts what he's about to say. I notice her looking terrified as ever. "Good, you are awake," she swallows her saliva to regulate her breathing and sees the person opposite me. "Roman?"
Roman dips his head down in response.
"What's going on?" I ask, pulling her away from the glaring look she's tossing at him.
"Heat signatures outside the school." She announces as the rest enters the room.
I push the stool backward and stand up, Roman following suit. "How many?"
"Lots of heat signatures, we need to prepare." Nate adds.
"We can still run." The headmaster suggests.
"Only cowards run." Damian contributes, dismissing his father.
"We need heavy firepower." Jessica suggests.
"What do we need it for? we have magic." Nate respond.
"Jessica's right. We need firepower and magic. We need all the help we can get since there's only six of us against an army of them, we cannot win unless we fight unfairly, cast a spell that will take everyone's powers away temporarily."
"I agree-"
"That's perfect-"
I lick my lips as Damian and Roman reply together. "Awkward." Nate slurps, Jessica nudges his stomach and clears her throat.
"No need for that Cami, I'm a Sage, I know exactly what to do," Jessica boasts in confidence.
"Let's do this then."
*****
We don't let them knock before we open the gate, the six of us are standing on the frontline waiting for them to assemble. I don't see Arihmatheo or Professor Holmes anywhere. It's a good thing?
Damian tightens his hold on my hand and turns to me. "I..." He never hesitates. "I–I have something to tell you after everything is over." He says.
"Okay." I stroke his hand and gently release it.
I transfer the sword I'm holding to my right hand. Everyone was picking weapons they can handle and I don't want to be left alone, so I picked the weapon I'm familiar. Although I don't trust myself with it.
I take a deep breath as they start walking faster. I have never experienced anything like this before, having to fight a battle opposite an actual opponent, the feeling is not welcomed in my body at all.
Jessica steps forward and bends down on the ground and places her hand on it to do her sage-y thing. Okay, it's time.
Damian pulls me behind him in a protective way. "I'll take this," he collects the sword from my hand. I try to protest but he beats me to it. "Stay close," he orders and moves to join in the fight.
I look around to see everyone engaging in something meaningful, too busy to care about me but I hate feeling helpless. I pull my hands out and make it burn. "Ignisia," I say the spell and fire appears in front of the men charging towards Damian and I. "That's one way to start a fight." He murmurs before drawing his sword.
I move behind Damian as he fight but I'm too exposed. I keep the fire up but it's can only hold for long before the begin coming for me. Making a run for it because Damian is too busy to notice me. I don't get far as a blow to the face stops me. I fall to the ground with a thud. Not giving me a chance to react or recover, he bends down and grab my collar, pulling me up, he begins to deliver punch in my stomach.
I close my eyes and pushes him away with my mind. Coughing, I try to move but I hurt all over. I smile to myself and join the fight. Another punch on the side of my head. "Ouch that hurt," I rub the area, wincing. It's definitely going to bruise later.
Turning my heels, I trying running but his catch the sleeve of my jacket and yank me back, slamming me against the wall. He removes a gun from his holster and aims if at me. I close my eyes, bracing myself for the shot.
I flinch when he fired but a masculine groan is all I hear. I open my right eye to see Roman standing in front of me, my eyes widens as he falls lifelessly on the ground. My mouth drops open in shock as I look from the Roman to the man. "What... What have you... What have you done?!" I scream.
I quickly bend down and place my hand on his cheek. "Hey... hey you are going to be okay, you are going be fine, just hang in there." I can feel tears streaming down my face now.
He places his bloody hand on mine. "It's okay, I'm happy your face is the last thing I'll be seeing. I–" he manages to say.
I shake my head. "No, don't talk like that or at all, please Roman!" I place my head on his forehead.
"I'm sorry, please forgive..."
I raise my head and stare into his cold eyes. "Roman." I bite my bottom lip to stop myself from crying. "Roman." I whisper and that when I know that he's gone, he died saving me.
My eyes turn black, rage fills me as I stand up from the ground and face his killer, I extend my right hand forward and turn my head. I can't explain it but I can feel the power taking over. I curl my hand into a tight fist as the man starts hyperventilating, holding his chest as he coughs blood.
It feels like I'm squeezing his heart in my palm, and it feels weird, good weird.
Suddenly I feel a bump on my head. Jessica screaming for help is the last thing I see until everything goes dark.
