[ Chapter 8 - Monsters ]

The alarm went on for a full minute as the inmates had grown silent to the noise and the running guards.

[ Denma ] "It's happening!"

Denma's heartbeat quickened due to the realization of the alarm's purpose.

[ Cole ] What is happening!

Cole held on to Denma's arm while shivering.

[ Denma ] Get off!

Denma struggled to pull Cole off of himself.

[ Guard #??? ] Do not panic, go back to your cells and await further instruction!

A guard screamed, then ran off.

Denma looked puzzled, keeping his head down low.

[ Denma ] "Remember, remember Denma, what happens next!"

Denma started rubbing the back of his head, but as frustrated as he was, he knew that he could not wait long.

[ Cole ] Hey, hey buddy, what do we do!

Cole cried out in Denma's ear.

[ Denma ] "Oh, that's right, I still hadn't introduced myself to him."

[ Denma ] My name's Denma, what we will do now is wait.

Denma looked into Cole's eyes with confidence showing in them.

[ Cole ] I'm Cole, but what do you mean wait!

[ Cole ] Don't you hear the sirens!

Denma stood up.

[ Denma ] I didn't mean as in 'wait for your doom', but to wait for an event to happen.

Denma smiled while he placed his hand out front for Cole.

Cole stared at that hand, then took it and stood up.

[ Cole ] So this is 'your' doing, fine, I'll play along.

They both stood and glared into each others eyes, showcasing their confidence to one another.

A terrific tremor shook the whole prison, causing the walls to crumble and some rooms to cave in.

Denma and Cole both crouched under the table as the tremor continued.

The sudden gunfire was now heard across the room, multiple times in fact.

[ Denma ] "To think I'd be so happy to see them, never have I thought of it!"

Denma smiled while he kept staring at the exit door.

[ Cole ] Why are you staring at the door's so intensively- oh!

[ Cole ] You're thinking of making a break for it!

Cole closed his eyes and smiled a 'cool' smile, being proud of himself for figuring Denma out.

Cole's smile quickly disappeared, he turned back to Denma to question him.

[ Cole ] Why aren't you going now, though?

Denma did not turn his attention away from the door, he just showed him his palm, telling him to wait and see.

Cole turned back to the door that Denma was staring intensively and pouted while watching, that he starting making swirls on the ground near him while holding both of his knees with the other hand.

The tremor intensified, cracks began to show above the exit door that they both stared at.

The exit door crumbled, releasing dust in every direction, it enveloped the whole room.

[ Denma ] *Cough* *Cough*!

[ Denma ] Cole, from now on do not move, speak, or breathe.

[ Cole ] Huuuuh, why-

A huge entity entered the room, a giant ghoul, the first enemy of the underworld has finally invaded!

The giant ghoul stood like a gorilla because of its huge arms, it's dark green skin falling apart with every move it made.

[ Denma ] "Even though the giant ghouls were once a problem, they still were, but we found it's weakness in the future, even though the ghoul has a lot of muscle, it is an undead that relies on mana to move and see, because I am a normal human, the ghoul should not see me, unless I made the mana in the air treble with any action I made."

The inmates started running around the room and tried running behind the giant ghoul, to escape.

The giant ghoul swung it's hand and knocked a couple of inmates back into a wall or the ground, with it's force breaking their spines or even killing them.

The inmates still ran tough, not stopping for any corpse in front of them.

The giant ghoul jumped up and smashed the inmates near it also sending a shockwave through the ground, making other inmates fall.

The inmates ran back and tried hiding in their cells.

The giant ghoul noticed the movement with mana and jumped towards the nearest cell, crashing into the cell.

[ Denma ] Now!

Denma screamed, grabbing Cole by the sleeve and dragging him along from under the table towards the exit.

[ Giant ghoul ] Guwaah!

The wretched scream of the giant ghoul's made Cole trip while running.

[ Denma ] Cole!

The inmates that ran inside their cells saw what happened with the giant ghoul jumping into the cell and decided to run out with this being their only chance.

[ Inmate #??? ] Run!

All the inmates left their cells while some got instantly crushed by the giant ghoul.

Denma turned back to Cole and grabbed him by the arm.

[ Cole ] Gah!

[ Cole ] My left knee hurts like a bitch!

[ Denma ] Start running or we're both gonna die!

Cole tried standing up with Denma's quick assistance, but a running inmate bumped into them while they ran.

The inmate did not turn back, but kept on running.

Denma and Cole both quickly stood up feeling dizzy, because of the impact.

[ Denma ] Hold on to me!

Cole put his left arm around Denma's back.

They both made a break for the exit.

[ Inmate #??? ] You fucker, try me!

Denma turned back to see an inmate rushing at the giant ghoul with a makeshift shank.

The inmate tried stabbing the giant ghoul, but the shank broke on collision.

[ Inmate #??? ] Gaah!

The inmate let out his last cry before getting smashed into the ground by the giant ghoul's left hand.

[ Cole ] Careful!

Denma quickly turned his head back to the front and tripped on a metal pole, causing both Cole and Denma to fall near the door.

[ Denma ] Ouch!

Denma turned his head around to look at the giant ghoul, the giant ghoul was rushing towards them both.

[ Denma ] Cole, run!

Cole and Denma quickly stood up and climbed over the rubble that covered the exit and went to the right hallway.

Denma and Cole ran without break seeing that each prison division had been broken into, it seems that their division was the last.

[ Cole ] Thank god I was in the last division, haha!

Cole laughed as he ran through each guard corpse in the hallway.

[ Denma ] No kidding, haha!

Denma too, smiled and cheered with Cole as they ran through the prison with each other in hands reach.

Denma and Cole both reached a pharmacy division where the inmates recouped their health.

[ Denma ] There!

Denma pointed at the pharmacy division door.

Cole nodded and went along with Denma into the division.

Cole shut the door and sat by the door.

[ Cole ] So, what are we doing here?

Cole looked at Denma's back who went near each cabinet, searching for something.

[ Denma ] Medicine, I need some medicine to create something necessary.

Denma opened each cabinet and then finally found the medicine he was looking for.

[ Denma ] Found it- wait no, both!

Denma had acquired: Tingle (A hallucination drug) and Antibiotics (A drug that fight infections caused by bacteria in humans and animals by either killing the bacteria or making it difficult for the bacteria to grow and multiply).

[ Cole ] Antibiotics I would understand why you searched for them, but what is 'Tingle'?

Cole wondered what tingle is, as it is his first time hearing it.

[ Denma ] It's a drug that induces hallucinations of your heart's desires, but it's hard to control.

[ Denma ] Its side effects include slowly turning the hallucination into a nightmare, and the effects can last for a day.

Cole stared at Denma, dumbfounded.

[ Denma ] In other words it's an experimental drug given to prisons to make the inmates confess after a day of use, of course you wouldn't know of it as it is not publicized.

[ Cole ] So you're gonna feed it to me?

Cole put up his arms as if to defend himself from Denma.

Denma sighed.

[ Denma ] Per-so-nal, use!

Cole let down his hands and chuckled.

[ ??? ] Ugh, shut up!

A voice came from behind the white curtains covering the other half of the room.

Cole quickly sprang up and went to Denma's side, cautiously watching the white curtains.

[ Cole ] Who's there!

Cole shouted at the curtains.

[ ??? ] Ugh, shut up!

Cole stared at the curtains, dumbfounded, but Denma on the other hand, trembled.

[ Cole ] Hey, you good man?

Cole wondered why Denma reacted like that.

[ Denma ] *huff* *huff*.

Denma breathed heavily, knowing what was behind the curtains.

The white curtains rustled with something on the other side trying to get through.

[ Cole ] What's happening with you?

Cole got worried.

[ ??? ] Ugh, shut, up!

The stranger pulled down the white curtains and revealed itself.

It was a zombie that wore a white coat soaked in blood and mud covering most of the coat and face.

[ Denma ] "Why is a zomboid here!"

Zomboid - a zombie that mimicks the sentence of its most recent prey, they also get a little bit smarter with each human eaten.

[ Denma ] Run!

Cole and Denma made a run for it, back to the hallway.

They left the room and closed the door and encountering the giant ghoul from their previous division.

Denma and Cole made a run for it towards the connected hallways with the giant ghoul chasing them down while destroying the floor.

Denma put the medicine into his pant pockets while running, but then accidentally dropped a bottle of Tingle, making its inside fall out.

Denma stopped and quickly snatched a couple of pills and shoved them into his pockets while the giant ghoul neared them.

Cole ran to Denma and took him by his arm, making Denma drop a couple more of the pills he collected, leaving him only with 2 pills of tingle.

[ Cole ] Don't stop!

Cole and Denma made it to the connected hallways and turned right, where the exit was located to the prison.
