Summer special

The sun was shining, the flowers are blooming. On days like these-

"Catch!" A young man with dark hair said, his dark eyes scanning the area as he smashed a volleyball out of the air and into the opposing court.

A young woman with purple-bluish hair quickly rushed towards the ball and launched it back to the man's court.

"Himeko!" Called out a white-haired girl with blue eyes as she carried a plate with barbecue on them.

"Kiana-chan, be careful!" Called out a beautiful purple-haired girl as she trailed after Kiana.

"Mei-Onee-Sama should be careful too." Reminded a girl with gray hair.

"Come on! Have fun with us!" Said a beautiful red-haired woman while calling towards a young man with dark hair and an eyepatch over his right eye manning the grill with an apron on.

"Cooking here." Replied the young man as he flipped the contents on top of the grill while slathering them with sauce. The young man looked to the side and saw a pair of blue eyes looking back at his lone dark orb when he looked at the grill. "Principal."

"Still so polite." The owner of the blue eyes said. She was a young girl around 12 years old dressed in a swimsuit with a duck-themed floaty around her waist. "It would not harm you to enjoy things."

"I am enjoying things here." The young man said with a straight face while handing the girl a stick of well-done barbecue.

"Thank you, Rex." The principal said as she ran to where the girls were going to change.

Rex manned the grill calmly as he enjoyed the soothing waves, the cool breeze in contrast to the temperate sun.  This was the life, a small smile appeared on his face as he flipped several of the things he grilled.

In a nearby part of the beach, a pair of people played a round of beach volleyball slowly getting intense.

The both of them looked in their teens with the girl around 17 while the young man looked like he was 20 years old.

The dark-eyed male hopped back and returned the ball to the girl. The girl ran towards it and sent it back. The exchange repeated several times and only stopped when the birl hit and sent a poor bird flying to the sand.

The two blinked along with Rex. Rex merely looked at the bird for less than a second while the two let out some chuckled and helped the poor bird out of the sand.

Rex skillfully flipped what he was cooking, the apron on his form hugging him tight over his clothes. The one-eyed young man moved quickly yet firmly as he made sure everything cooked well under the flames of the girl. Once he was sure no one was looking, the young man reached into his pack and pulled out a steel flask, and sipped some of its contents.

A beautiful and large dog lay near his grill on top of a rug and behind an umbrella.

"Az," Rex called out as he set down a paper plate with some food near his dog, Azdaha. The dog wagged its tail and started to eat its meal.

"Not gonna change?"

"I'm wearing my swimming trunks and I can just remove my shirt," Rex told Fu Hua's companion. "Sad that your girlfriend left you?"

"She is not my girlfriend." The male said, only to be met with a raised brow from the eyepatch-wearing male.

"Fu Hua is a quiet girl. She rarely invites others and yet she invited you and said that she will only come with us if you can come with her." Rex said as he looked at his furry companion.

"She did?"

"Yes, she did. She is quite fond of you, Ren." Rex told who was probably the man that his class representative will choose as her husband. The one-eyed male saw a slight red tint on the other male's cheek.

"How about you?" Ren asked, attempting to change the subject.

"My big sister kidnapped me from my bed, chucked me in the back of the van, and when I woke up we were already halfway here."

"Big sister? You two don't look alike." Ren said as he opened his backpack and removed his shirt, leaving him only in his shorts.

"She adopted me a few months ago," Rex explained.

"Well, I guess that explains it. Living with five girls must be hard."

"You have no idea."

"At least you're not lonely. Well, you can go to me if you want to hang out. Maybe I can help you get."

Curious about the silence of his companion, the one-eyed male's lone eye widened at the look Ren had. Ren's eyes were as wide as dinner plates and a stream of blood poured out of his nose.

"The fuck." For the first time, Rex cursed as he watched his companion fall with a smile so wide that. Oh, so that was the reason. Fu Hua, dressed in a swimsuit rushed to Ren and immediately covered his nose. "Simp." Rex said quietly as he went back to manning the grill.

While Fu Hua was certainly attractive, he was not her type. It was just so wrong to consider her as a romantic partner.

"Hey! Come on, let's go for a swim!"

"Kiana, I'm cooking." Said the young man as he looked at the ingredients on top of the grill. He could feel her in front of him and knew she had a glare aimed at him.

"Look at me!" He can feel her soft fingers on her chin and suddenly, his lone dark eye met with a beautiful pair of blue.

No words came out of her mouth as he looked at her. There was no way this was Kiana!

"You like it?" she asked with a grin, letting go of his chin to hold her hand. Her wide grin along with her clothes made the usually stoic male flustered. Thankfully, her eyes were closed and she was unable to see the blush that covered his face.

Off to the side, a red-haired woman and a white-haired child grinned at the sight of the two.

"Ah! Its burning!" Kiana's scream made him return to his senses. He saved most of the ingredients but the fire was growing. He removed his apron and used his shirt and the apron to smother the flames and revealed his toned and scarred body.

After taking care of the fire, the young man sighed. He looked at the young woman in front of him and walkwd out of the grill to get more ingredients.

Thinking that she had made her friend upset with her, the usually energetic girl shyly followed him.

"Rex... Sorry." She whispered. Waiting for his response, she let out a yelp when she felt her hat cover the upper part of her face.

"No problem."

Kiana wished she did not pull her hat away. She wished that she haven't seen it. But, the bright and fond smile that the stoic friend gave her was enough to make her face into a crimson mess and could not stop the bright smile that broke her sad look.
