The Unwanted Rose|19

Writer's P.O.V:

After a week the neighbours called the police as the smell of rotting flesh was unbearable. Her body was found sitting on the edge of the bed, frozen blood on her lifeless face. Her curly hair was disarrayed and her eyes closed in bliss. The police found the old rusted blade and a black rose on her crime scene. The black rose still fresh and alive had a few drops of her blood stuck to it. Unlike the rose her body was a rotting corpse now. No resemblance to the alive Rosie.

Her funeral was conducted on the very same day in the garden. Many people came to say her final goodbye but very few grieved for her death. Most came to watch the show. The show of her death and others to fulfil their greed. Soft music played in the background. The spectators were bored of forcing tears from their eyes and wanted a drama. And their wish was fulfilled as in the next moment came to a woman running her hair in disarray as she sprinted towards the dead woman's casket.

"Rosie my darling daughter you can't leave your aunt" She cried loudly attracting a lot of attention. People had mixed reactions. Some looked at her pity as she mourned loudly and others looked at her with annoyance for disturbing their prayers.

The woman went to touch her cold hand and tried to entwine their fingers. But a crack was heard and people gasped as they saw a pale brown finger on the old woman's hand. The woman screeched in horror and jerked the broken finger off her. People gasped and quickly called the priest.

"Oh my I am so sorry" She cried cradling her finger trying to erase the feeling of the corpse's touch from her hand. The priest disrupted the crowd but was shocked when he saw it's one finger missing.

"This is not right. The poor woman will be forever stuck in this world if we aren't able to find her finger" The guests started searching for the finger but after two hours they were unsuccessful. A woman stepped forward and approached the priest.

"Father instead of that finger we can also bury her with an object she was close to. In the past when warriors weren't able to find the King's head they used to bury their swords along with them as it was present in their last moments" The priest nodded and went to ask the police. And after persuading for a long time the police agreed to give the black rose for burial along with the dead.

Instead of her index finger in the corpse's left hand was a black rose. People slowly started saying goodbye to her. Some crying softly. While others like her younger brother were stiff. He felt her pain and realised how ungrateful he was towards her. His sister, his only blood relative was no more. When he was younger he thought his uncle and aunts truly loved them and punished Rosie for being a rebel. But after living 10 years with those leeches he realised he was wrong. Rosie protected him for a long but one day she lost her will and begged him to run away with her. He rejected her offer. And that was the last time met until now.

His uncle was discussing her will with the police. But seeing his uncle's dark expression he was happy that his sister didn't leave any will to him. It was a relief. He sighed softly and said goodbye to the woman who taught him to be strong and was always his saviour. He was the first one to leave the funeral.

As the funeral came to an end the priest started to cover Rosie's casket when a voice stopped him.

"Her body will not be buried until we find the will," Rosie's uncle said coming forward. People gasped and the priest tried to talk to the man to stop creating a scene at a funeral. But the men kept screaming profanities and the spectators watched.

A woman stood not far away from the casket chuckled at the scene in front of her. They weren't even giving her peace at her death bed. Rosie smiled maliciously and walked towards the red-faced man. His round nose was turning red as he shouted at the priest. Rosie tripped him on his foot. The priest sighed in relief and ordered the coffin to be lowered again. As the door of the coffin was closed her body now lay 6 feet deep inside the earth.

Rosie was confused. Why hasn't she passed realms? Is it a punishment for taking your own life?

As the stone was being placed on her coffin she heard his voice. He stood there in a black suit with white lilies in his hand. His wife at his right was wearing a black gown with a net covering half of her face.

He didn't cry, she noticed. But she was glad as she didn't want her peace to be disturbed. She looked around to find a familiar face but thought it was stupid of her to think he would come to her funeral. He hated her. Now that she was dead, he could finally live his life in peace. Siddharth came forward and started saying few words to her grave. She tuned him out and left her funeral.

She was dead now so her soul could easily travel around her house. You can say she was haunting the house. Rosie smiled, she liked the title. The haunted ghost. Her life would finally have some thrills. She felt excitement rush in as she went to her room in an instinct and laid on her bed looking at the white ceiling. She found that she liked sitting at the edge of the bed, it made her feel stronger. The same place where she took her life.

She was sitting there when she saw the door opening and Karthik entered. She frowned at him. Did he come to destroy my room? She thought.

The man was quite like his usual self and walked towards her bed and sat on the bed. Rosie waited for some reaction. An evil laugh at least. But there was none he just sat there in silence. Not speaking a word.

It irritated her a little she didn't know this will turn into a routine of theirs. Days passed and the man came every night sitting on her bed sometimes falling asleep. Rosie was getting more and more irritated as the days passed. What was his motive?
She was a ghost though so her source of entertainment was limited. So watching the guy sitting in her room idly was somewhat interesting for her.

Rosie watched him grow old as the man turned more and more miserable. She was angry at this idiotic guy. Why didn't he marry? Why was he living such a lonely life?

One day she witnessed him die on her bed because of a heart stroke. She felt helpless as she watched him take his last breath. He was discovered after a few days by his colleagues. The house was then abandoned and as a hundred years passed Rosie's soul passed realms.
