Chapter 1

This tale takes place four years later in the year of 1004 of Narnia, during the reign of the High King Peter of Narnia

Glorious autumn colored leaves littered the grounds of Cair Parevel. Queen Susan sat at her window seat as she watched a lone golden leaf dance gracefully in the wind. It reminded Susan of what the Narnians called, their "Golden" regin. Susan could not argue that it was not golden, as there had not been any wars or uprising enemies. All was peaceful and Narnia was flurishing. In fact, Susan was beginning to wonder if things were becoming too quiet and boring.

Turning away from the autumn scene, she returned to the task at hand, writing out invitations.

Weeks ago, Susan had informed her siblings that it was high time that they really meet King Lune of Archenland. Susan had only once met him during a quick visit to the Narnian boarder. From her perspective, King Lune was a large and jolly man.

The queen's suggestion of holding a banquet for the royal Archenland family was met with enthusiastic approval. Susan then took it upon herself to personally write the invitations and to see to the banquet preparations.

Now, Susan's delicate fingers led her quail pen over the scroll. Careful concentration played over her face as she desired near perfection. After a few moments, she laid down the pen and looked over her script. Pleased with the outcome, she rolled it up and tied a red ribbon around its center.

On the floor beside her, sat a wicker basket, overflowing with similar scrolls. These were to be sent out to the Narnians. As she added the latest invitation to the pile, she smiled fondly as she recalled the specially written one to the King of Archenland. Though it had been sent off by hand of a messenger days ago, Susan could still see the beautifully scripted letter.

To His Majesty, King Lune of the great country of Archenland and his royal family.

I, Queen Susan of Narnia, sister to the High King Peter, should like to extend our hospitality and hereby invite thee and thy royal family, in one weeks time to the halls of Cair Parevel, to a grand banquet in thy honor.

If this humble request so pleases the king, we should be most honored to have thee as our exalted guests.

The words danced around gracefully in her memory and Susan was very proud to have written something so majestic.

"Now to send these out." Susan said to herself as she turned her attention to the Narnian's invitations.

Leaning over in her seat, she picked up the basket by its handles and sat it beside her at the window seat. The queen then stood and straightened her lovely lavender dress. Glancing out the window as she went to take the basket, she saw something in the distance moving across the grassy feild just outside of the castle.

Susan moved closer to the window, her hand rested on the cold stone. She squinted her eyes and looked harder. She let out a gasp,

"By the mane! Its- it's a child!" She exclaimed.

Suddenly the figure collapsed to the ground, obviously weak and tired. At once, Susan picked her up skirts and ran out of her room.

Taking two steps at a time on the staircase, Susan passed by a Dryad who was going upstairs. The Dryad looked at the queen in alarm, for Susan was not one to race about the castle, unlike Lucy.

"Your majesty! What is wrong?"

Susan barley turned to face the Dryad as she replied,

"Prepare a room and have a meal brought up, quickly!"

The Dryad watched as the queen came to the bottom of the steps and took off toward to door.

"How peculiar." Muttered the Dryad as she went off to fulfill the queen's orders.
