|The Lakshman Rekha|
᯽The Lakshman Rekha ᯽
You might be surprised to learn that Lakshaman Rekha is not mentioned in the original Valmiki Ramayana.
The well-known term very commonly used as a metaphor for a line that can't be crossed is a line (border) drawn by Lakshama by his arrow to protect Sita.
When Sita notices a golden deer wandering around the forest, she requests her husband Ram to capture it.
Lord Ram locates it and pursues it into the forest. Meanwhile, Lakshaman hears Ram's scream, which is a trap set by Marich, a Rakshasa (demon) disguised as a golden deer.
Sita orders Lakshaman to go find his brother Ram. Lakshaman initially refuses, but eventually agrees on one condition. He forms a boundary (lakshman rekha) around the cottage and requests Sita not to cross that line in any situation.
As the story goes she does cross the line and is kidnapped by Ravan the antagonist of Ramayana.
but in the real Ramayana, there is no mention of Lakshaman Rekha.
Even Ramcharitmanas which was written by Saint Tulsidas also doesn't directly feature this story.
However, there are more than 200 book versions of Ramayana.
In northern parts of India, old tribes used to tell stories about Ramayana from which this story of Lakshamana Rekha came.

Note: Valmiki Ramayana does not mention Lakshman Rekha anywhere in any form.
Those who have complete knowledge of Ramayana would know.
I do not intend to disrespect one's sentiments.
